Mounjaro - anyone not losing?

poppetandmog · 26/06/2024 18:21

I started on Mounjaro a few weeks ago and took my 4th dose of 2.5mg on Monday. I don't think it's working for me. I have had some appetite suppression and have been eating well within my calorie deficit (for reference, my maintenance calories are around 2100 and I haven't been eating more than 1500 cals. Some days I've only been having 1000.) Despite this, the scales aren't moving and I've stayed the same weight the last 2 weeks. I was consistently losing weight before I started as I was calorie counting before and had already lost over a stone in 3 months. I started taking Mounjaro in an attempt to speed up the weight loss and it seems to have done the opposite! I'm moving up to 5mg next week and hopefully this will help. Has anyone else had a similar experience and eventually started losing? Thanks.

Following as this happened with me (but on saxenda) still the same weight now 😩

yorkypuds · 26/06/2024 21:06

I lost well for first 4 weeks on 2.5mg but not lost anything on 5 weeks of 5mg. I know I am eating substantially less. I really didn't want to calorie count- I want to lose that obsession with food. But I need to find out why? Isn't making sense!
Start 7.5mg this week, hoping for a shift on that!

I'm in exactly the same position as you. Third week on 5mg and the scales haven't budged since I've gone up even though I'm eating way less and the suppression is better. I'm going to try 7.5mg next time and hopefully the scales will move, at least they are staying the same and not moving upwards I suppose!

yorkypuds · 27/06/2024 17:39

The fact I am not obsessing about food is still a huge benefit. I'm not sure what to do next if there isn't a change. It feels crazy as I'm obese, it's not like I'm trying to lose the last couple of lbs!

Golightly133 · 28/06/2024 09:35

This is me lost a stone and a half in the first 4 weeks on 2.5 then nothing on 5, just had my first 7.5 this morning if I don’t lose anything this month going to stop can’t be paying £200 a month for no weight loss. Do feel better eating sensibly, losing inches but wanted weight loss.

Fromthesidelines · 28/06/2024 09:53

I'm not losing either. Coming to the end of 5th week (4 of 2.5 plus bonus dose of 3.25). Eating well within deficit; no UPFs, lots of water, exercising and also 16:8 IF. Lost 5lbs over 4 weeks but put on 1.5lbs back this week! Feel I should have lost more even without mounjaro. Very despondent.
Move to 5mg on Sunday but so many stories of people stalling on that dosage. I've already got that pen and the 7.5, otherwise I'd be tempted to give up.

yorkypuds · 29/06/2024 09:45

I've just done first 7.5mg into the tummy rather than the thigh! Hoping for a difference. It is hard to justify the cost if not losing weight!

poppetandmog · 30/06/2024 21:48

Does injection site make a difference? I have just been doing stomach up until now.

They say stomach is fasted absorbed. I did stomach for the first time on Saturday am with first 7.5mg and I'm definitely feeling more side effects!

The lower doses are not therapeutic - the evidence shows people lose best on 10mg, 12.5mg, 15mg. They don't expect you to lose on 2.5mg, 5mg or even 7.5mg, although many do - you need to go up the titration levels and give it at least 3 months, if you stop before then you haven't really given it a chance to work.

It's an investment and you need to have faith in the process - if you do feel some appetite suppression then clearly it is working, you just need the increase to a therapeutic dose.
If there is no suppression whatsoever at the lower doses this may be an indication it's not going to work for you but it takes time to build up in your system , I say this as someone for whom saxenda was only mildly helpful (lost 4kg then no more, was on it for 12 weeks) and Wegovy (did nothing even on the highest dose, was on it for 5 months and regained the weight I'd lost on saxenda). I have lost 11kg in 19weeks so far on MJ, including a 5week stall on 5mg, and looking at the MJ threads I am a relatively slow responder compared to many.

CormorantStrikesBack · 01/07/2024 12:12

I’m on 7.5 (one week at this dose only) and nothing. I still feel hungry. I think maybe the first couple of weeks on 2.5mg I might have felt slightly less hungry but maybe that was placebo. I am injecting in the leg so will try stomach?

HorsingAround2022 · 02/07/2024 10:01

I was only losing small amounts until I started on 7.5mg. I've lost a stone in 3 months which is a relatively small amount given some people lose a stone in two weeks on it.

The weight is dropping faster on 7.5mg and my appetite has completely disappeared. As it's so expensive I had to really think about continuing when I wasn't losing weight, but I'm glad I did.

Dressinggowntime · 02/07/2024 10:06

I only really saw fast weight loss eating between 800 and 1200. I’ve also done quite a few days of 500 because I was ill. I’m 7 weeks in and I’ve lost 20lbs

poppetandmog · 02/07/2024 18:12

Just an update. I'm a few days into 5mg and definitely feeling stronger appetite suppression. I lost 6lbs in 4 weeks on the 2.5mg so it is doing something, albeit slow. I think 5mg is going to work better for me.

I’m in the same boat, only lost 6lb in the first 3 weeks and actually went up 0.1lbs this morning (4th yesterday and the suppression is definitely weaker). I’ve got my 5mg jab coming this week so I’m hoping that’ll get things moving a wee bit quicker - even though I know 6lbs in 3 weeks is a very healthy and sustainable loss.

Bobobanter · 23/10/2024 10:35

I'm now on 5mg and I haven't lost anything. I feel heavier, slower and more clompy then ever. Waste of time and money

Can you link where you got this information as it seems totally incorrect. From everything I've read and everyone who's mentioned therapeutic dose, only 2.5mg is in this camp. From 5mg is the main dose and losing weight is expected by the manufacturer. I'll like to read your source from the manufacturer that 5mg and 7.5mg are also not therapeutic and you aren't expected to lose weight on them.

Edit: I've only just realised this thread was resurrected and I've quoted your post from July. No wonder the incorrect information. Never mind answering anymore as it's unnecessary knowing that it's not something people say anymore. Only 2.5mg is a non-therapeutic dose.

This 100%

sshk · 30/11/2024 12:19

@poppetandmog @Bobobanter how are you journeys going? Did you break through the stalls?
Did going up doses help?
The scales have not budged for 3 weeks on 5mg. Wondering whether to stick out another month on 5mg or just move up to 7.5mg. I am weary of going up the doses quickly as don’t want to reach the max dose straight away but equally no point in taking 5mg if not doing anything.
Ive lost 10lb in 4 weeks and then stayed put.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2024 12:33

They advise to go up monthly so I would go up

I'm exactly the same...i wanted to stay at 5mg, but will definitely be moving up and hopefully that helps.

Lol. Obviously no source, just spite 🙄

FlappingMadly · 30/11/2024 14:18

Hi op, if you lost before beginning MJ you will not have water weight to lose and your body might be naturally having a plateau. This happened to me - everyone but me were having mega losses but I have now lost 10kg and ongoing. As well as weighing don't forget to measure yourself. 2.5 is the lowest dose and lots of the losses will be from water, the excitement of starting and big eating adjustments. Just keep going -you will start losing.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 30/11/2024 14:18

In human trials 15% of people did not respond to Mounjaro.

Objectrelations · 30/11/2024 14:22

Does it help with emotional eating ?
