Mounjaro - anyone not losing?

I started on Mounjaro a few weeks ago and took my 4th dose of 2.5mg on Monday. I don't think it's working for me. I have had some appetite suppression and have been eating well within my calorie deficit (for reference, my maintenance calories are around 2100 and I haven't been eating more than 1500 cals. Some days I've only been having 1000.) Despite this, the scales aren't moving and I've stayed the same weight the last 2 weeks. I was consistently losing weight before I started as I was calorie counting before and had already lost over a stone in 3 months. I started taking Mounjaro in an attempt to speed up the weight loss and it seems to have done the opposite! I'm moving up to 5mg next week and hopefully this will help. Has anyone else had a similar experience and eventually started losing? Thanks.

I really don’t know what to do. I have been on it since January and have lost 5.2 kilos but I keep having stalls that last a month or more and this is so depressing. My dr said that as I am in my 80 something kilos I won’t lose as quick as those who are much bigger and I understand that. However it’s costing a fortune $2,280 aus so far for 5 kilos. I’m thinking of finishing this pen then having a break for a month then start Xenical (I lost 20kilos in 8 months a few years ago on these). See how they go while waiting for Retratrulide ?????

IDontHateRainbows · 13/05/2025 06:32

I've stopped losing but I honestly think that's because my.body doesn't want to get any slimmer iyswim, I'm just outside thd healthy bmi range now so it feels like I'm going against the grain whereas in the beginning the weight fell off.

I'd still ideally like to lose another half stone but I think I'd have to seriously restrict to do so. Debating whether to just accept my fate. A year ago just weighing what I do now was a delusional dream.

I’m in Australia and I have done everything I’m supposed to re water, protein, calorie deficit etc etc

For some it's working brilliantly
Other people not, I'm in 7.5 but unfortunately think enough is enough it's costing a fortune and only lost about 8lbs in 3 months 😫

I’ve lost 10lbs since end of Jan.
Makes it a hard slog at times but I know if I wasn’t on it my weight would still be slowly creeping up so I take it as a win.
Ive had really bad side effects so was on 2.5 longer. Been on 5mg for the last 2 pens. I’m hoping they put me up next time as losing has stalled.
Good luck for more losses.

So happy to have found this thread as my weight loss on 5mg has been super slow. I’ve had my 3rd 5mg injection and have lost 2.5kg all month. I lost 7kg on 2.5mg. I did feel disappointed but had to remind myself that 2.5kg is still a lot and is in line with losing weight at a steady rate. The suppression for me is excellent but the side effects after the 3rd 5mg haven’t been good at all.

im going to stick to it until I reach my goal weight. 8.2kg to go

Mortigua · 16/05/2025 07:35

I have only lost 1.9kg since going back on in January .
i have been up and down but my hormones are also all over the place - I know this can happen but anyone else ? Periods were settling down and longer apart and now they are back and too often !
I wish I’d measured though . Still have a huge tummy and thighs but my arms look far slimmer and I can tell the difference in some clothes

IDontHateRainbows · 16/05/2025 11:07

For those of us not losing/ plateauing.... have you considered how much less you are yo yo ing up and down the scale? I probably would have lost the same half a stone several times over by now, so by that logic I've 'lost' possibly quite a few pounds that I would have yo yo'd, by staying stable. Makes me feel better anyway!

Mortigua · 16/05/2025 14:11

Good thinking IDontHateRainbows there’s nothing wrong with staying the same and I thought similar today as I realised I’m not eating as much at all yet still only losing a tiny bit , but then what would I have continued to put on if I’d carried on how I was ?

Hallywally · 16/05/2025 18:04

2.5 didn’t do much for me. I’ve found 5mg much better and have started losing more but everyone reacts differently and sadly it won’t work for everyone.

Hi there, sorry to hear that you're feeling disappointed with your weightloss. Do you have a lot to lose? What was your previous diet compared to now?

A couple of things stick out to me, you're vegan and you're not a big drinker.

From my experience, usually the BIG losses are from those who have completely uphauled their diet from processed food/junk/takeaways/alcohol to clean eating chicken/veg/water/10k steps. This shock in change is why you see some who lose a stone in 2 weeks. There's one guy I follow on IG who has lost 70lbs in 90 days - but he conveniently never mentions what he eats and what he previously ate.

If you're already relatively healthy and the weight has crept on over the few years by eating seconds/extra dessert here and there, there's not much shock you can give your body, so the weight will come off slower. This is where I am too - I love my homecooked food, I just eat too much of it 😁

I take it as a credit to your diet before the jab. It's ok to lose slowly. I know it's costly, but see it as an investment to your health.

I think there’s a lot of truth in this - I ate very well indeed and had been maintaining for a year - hadn’t gained- but hadn’t lost either as wasn’t really trying to do so - basically I was eating correctly- just not low enough amounts to lose weight and hence whatever I use be it MJ or intermittent herbal appetite suppressants and calorie counting ( done a bit of both in last 9 weeks) I will lose , but rather slowly, l to 1.5 a week on average - because there was no initial ‘water weight ‘ or holy crap what is this diet’ kind of thing for my body to work on - what does make a difference for me is excercise, did 2 dance classes this week ( I’m 63) and within a day of doing both I was a further1lb down each day.

butteredradish1 · 17/05/2025 15:08

You aren't eating enough

Juliesjd · 11/06/2025 12:55

Yeh that's a great way of looking at it. I was feeling really dejected after just losing 5lb in 3 weeks on 2.5. But in truth I was eating quite healthily before, weight has slowly crept on and as an older person, its harder to lose imo. Water is my downfall though so making an effort to up it.

IDontHateRainbows · 12/06/2025 11:41

I've stopped losing but I'm now the upper end of healthy bmi and it really feels like my body doesn't want to or need to lose more, it would be for vanity only not health .

sweetpea19 · 25/09/2025 10:07

I’ve been on Mounjaro in total for over a year now but not found I’ve had much appetite suppression. I did lose nearly 3 stone in 7 months whilst building up to 15mg ising a lot of willpower. I did find I had less sugar cravings. In the following 5 months didn’t lose or gain anything. I continued the jabs as didn’t want to gain before my son’s wedding. I had a 2 month break in which time my sugar cravings returned with a vengeance and I regained 9lbs. I started again at 2.5 now on 5 and not experiencing any appetite suppression or weight loss at all. I am sticking to a fairly strict calorie deficit (through willpower rather than suppression) but still not lost any weight. Any advice please??

mamabeeboo · 25/09/2025 15:30

@sweetpea19 I'd recommend fasting when calorie restriction goes out the window. I only eat within a 4 hour window, sometimes only OMAD however I don't know how you feel about that if you're on will power at this moment.
I also don't have suppression, I can eat, but I also am not as hungry, so lots of water and black coffee.
