Mounjaro - anyone not losing?

poppetandmog · 26/06/2024 18:21

I started on Mounjaro a few weeks ago and took my 4th dose of 2.5mg on Monday. I don't think it's working for me. I have had some appetite suppression and have been eating well within my calorie deficit (for reference, my maintenance calories are around 2100 and I haven't been eating more than 1500 cals. Some days I've only been having 1000.) Despite this, the scales aren't moving and I've stayed the same weight the last 2 weeks. I was consistently losing weight before I started as I was calorie counting before and had already lost over a stone in 3 months. I started taking Mounjaro in an attempt to speed up the weight loss and it seems to have done the opposite! I'm moving up to 5mg next week and hopefully this will help. Has anyone else had a similar experience and eventually started losing? Thanks.

I lost a stone on 5mg and then no movement at all for 3 weeks so I've just moved up to 7.5mg and it moving again

poppetandmog · 01/12/2024 22:17

Just realised I never updated this thread. I've now been on Mounjaro for around 6 months and have lost just over 3 stone. I'm definitely not a fast loser but have consistently lost every week since I moved to 5mg.

Can I ask what changed for you when you moved to 5mg? I’m just about to move up after having no success on the starting dose.

Good news @poppetandmog !

Interesting reading. I’m on the last week of 2.5mg and only lost 5lbs. Very disappointed tbh. Hoping 5mg is better. Not eating much at all.

So 5lbs in not even 4 weeks? I’d be happy with that. I don’t lose that even on 15mg!

Yes, have been on it nearly a year and have lost just over 2.5stone. Yes it’s been slow and it’s not been dramatic but it all adds up. Saw someone today I’ve not seen in six months and they immediately commented on my weight loss. I’m down two dress sizes, nearly three dress sizes. I am much more confident in how I look.

Polkadotdash · 17/03/2025 20:30

I’m still losing a pound and gaining three so my weight isn’t moving at all. I’ve cut my calories to around 1300 per day as well. I don’t know what is going on with it to be honest. I’m just about to go up to 7.5mg next week. I did two months on 5mg as the first month of 5mg made me feel nauseous non stop.

I’m interested if you lost more on 5mg as I’m in my 3rd week of starting in 2.5mg eating about 1300 cal drinking 3-4 litres of water not feeling hungry so felt suppression was good but really disheartened as thought I’d have lost a lot more .
Wasnt my plan to go up doses too much as had seen lots of people stay in smaller dose but I’m thinking I’ll need to move up to 5mg .
interested to see how you got on ?
Feeling very disheartened 😞

Hello. I’m just starting week 3 on 5mg. I’ve lost a stone so far. Not amazing but something. Fair way to go. Side effects have been tough at times. I’ll keep going.

This is me lost a stone and a half in the first 4 weeks on 2.5 then nothing on 5, just had my first 7.5 this morning if I don’t lose anything this month going to stop can’t be paying £200 a month for no weight loss. Do feel better eating sensibly, losing inches but wanted weight loss.

but you have lost inches that shows it is working especially if you are exercising?

Debbiemcg · 01/05/2025 07:20

Glad to read this thread. I'm on my third week at 2.5.. First week I lost 4lbs, second I lost half a pound so went for sneaky half week weigh in to give me a boost but I've put 2lbs back on.
My body/weight loss feels exactly like I've been at slimming world and really trying to eat and exercise correctly, doesn't feel any different. Still get hungry, just feel sick after eating anything remotely fatty (spread).
I'm really gutted and feel what's the point of the big spend. I can't afford to be on it long-term, I was hoping for a 3 month boost in the right direction.

Rockdaylia44 · 01/05/2025 16:51

It's not working at all for me I'm in calorie deficit and lost 7lbs in 10 weeks 😢 😫 lot of money
Think going to stop as hair is starting to fall out and feel sick throughout the day

Atomikkitty · 02/05/2025 09:00

I lost 10bs in the first two weeks, now about to do second 5mg and weigh exactly the same as then. I’ve been under 1500calories every day and appetite is surpressed, constipation only negative side effect. Gutted not sure what difference it’s making if I’m not losing but in calorie deficit.

Twillywoowooo · 02/05/2025 09:22

Bit surprising if those on a calorie deficit are not losing weight regardless of the jab. Maybe check the calorie counting. I’d expect to lose weight on a calorie reduction. The jab won’t stop weight loss unless it’s causing water retention. Weight will also fluctuate a little and a slight gain doesn’t mean you’ve gained fat. Can appreciate frustration if spending so much and not seeing results.

mamabeeboo · 02/05/2025 09:44

I'm sort of in the same position. The jab is doing what it needs to do and I'm at around 1000 cals a day, which would never be the case without (I'd easily polish 1000 cals snacking).
But the scales are moving so slowly (if at all).

I also have circa 10 stone to lose, and was sold the dream that those who have a lot to lose typically lose faster...nope!

Anyway, I log all my food and really analysed it last night, what am I doing wrong?!

I don't have enough protein (40-50g a day) and I have a high amount of carbs (150g a day) within the cal allowance. I also definitely could drink more water.

I'm going to change this around and have a high protein and low carb few days and see what that does. The body uses more energy to metabolise protein than carbs (almost double) so even that simple change might make the difference.

Ohwowwo · 02/05/2025 09:54

Patience in nearly all cases. As OP’s outcome proved!

Isn't 50g protein enough in 1day?

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/05/2025 07:09

@Rockdaylia44 no tho depends on weight as well

simple conversion is a 1g per kg of body weight

google says

For individuals on Mounjaro, consuming 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight is a good starting point. This translates to approximately 60 grams of protein daily for a 75kg (165lb) person. For those with higher activity levels or older adults, the recommended intake may increase to 1.0-1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight.

Detailed Recommendations:

  • Minimum Intake:
  • The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight.
  • Sarcopenia Prevention (Over 40-50):
  • Increased protein intake to 1-1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight is recommended to combat muscle loss as you age.
  • Regular Exercise:
  • Individuals who exercise regularly may need 1.1-1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight.
  • Muscle Growth and Strength Training:
  • Those engaging in weight training or high-intensity workouts may benefit from 1.2-1.7 grams per kilogram.
  • Weight Management:
  • Aim for 25-50 grams of protein at each main meal.
  • Protein Distribution:
  • Evenly distribute protein intake throughout the day to maximize muscle protein synthesis.

So minimum 60g for 75kg/11.5s

obv more helps

if heavier more

mfp says for me 62g at 11.10

but was 108kg /over 17s and mfp suggested 86g protein a day

so if @mamabeeboo has 10s to lose guessing she is /was say 20s (sorry if wrong) I have 6* at 17s

so should be on roughly 127g of protein at top weight of 20s/ 127kg or lesst over 100g at .8 per kg

hope that makes sense.

Mounjaro is not meant to be a short term boost. Some people are very sensitive to it and could lose a lot in 3 months but most are not and need to get to the higher doses to see consistent weight loss.

SamDeanCas · 04/05/2025 07:27

2.5mg is a priming dose to get your body used to the drug, not everyone will lose on this dosage. Unfortunately you only tend to hear about the ones who lose LB’s because they shout about it loudest. Most people don’t.

I’ve been on MJ for 9 months and lots 2st 3lbs in that time. So for me it’s steady away. Some months I might only lose a lb, other a couple, but as long as it’s going down slowly I don’t mind. I also hope that because it’s coming off slowly, I’ll be less likely to put it all back on again.

Thank you. I think I'd just heard so many 6 stone in 3 months stories I thought it would give me a great kick start as I don't have that much to lose. I can't afford longer than that so maybe it's not the answer for me. Thank you x

I have also seen a lot of these too, and my theory is that these people have come from pretty poor diets (junk food, processed food, takeaways, alcohol, sedatory lifestyle) to a sudden diet overhaul (chicken and veg, 10k steps, intermittent fasting) so the body is in shock and the weight falls off.

In comparison to some others who's weight has slowly creeped up over time, by having seconds or an extra dessert here and there. So when on the jab, the weight is lost slowly. So IMO it's a credit that your diet wasn't too bad to begin with.
