Continuing Mounjaro...part 14

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 18:50

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

Zava medical:

Just wanted to share a win with you all
Starting weight 18st 6lb size 28
Today's weight 9 stone 6lb size 10 🥳
Don't think I've been a size 10 since I was about 4 😂😂 keep going everyone, it is so so worth it

Bloody hell! I think that's the biggest loss I've seen on here. The Americans on Reddit have some massive losses but they've been at it much longer than most of us. When did you start? You must feel amazing, I can't even imagine getting to a size 10.

MathildaMattie · 22/06/2024 14:24

Stupidly I injected on Tuesday not wearing my specs. I injected 50 clicks of 10mg instead of 50 of 7.5.

I’ve been totally floored and had to cancel a weekend in Sweden I’ve been planning for a year.

On the plus side my stall has ended and I’m only 3lbs away from a healthy BMI

I could do with a bit of advice. Took my first dose of 5mg on Monday night, Tuesday was fine but Wednesday Thursday and Friday I’ve barely been able to eat. Am also utterly beyond exhausted (but that may be unrelated). Bit more appetite today (so that’s only 3 days feeling like shite?). Should I stick with 5mg because next week will be easier or drop down a smidge?

edited to add: 16lb down in 5 weeks

Edited

I am at a similar point 3rd week of 5mg and same weight loss. I to find the second day after the jab a struggle with GI symptoms and tired 😫. I am going to start splitting the dose so take 2.5 on Tuesday and another 2.5 on Friday and see how it goes. Quite a few threads on Reddit about this some people find it really helps.

Lastchancefatty · 22/06/2024 15:27

Someone has started a bit of a scare monger thread about WL injections. Bowel impaction etc. If it puts a few people off I'm not worried though. It won't put me off 😂

DramMum · 22/06/2024 15:43

Hi there. I’ve been enthused to take the plunge by you guys and have ordered my first doses from ZAVA. Thanks for the codes that have been shared.

I was approved for a starter pack yesterday and it arrived this morning with no issues. Still nice and cold.

I actually started with Second Nature because I wanted to have the extra support and it was recommended as an NHS weight loss programme - but I’m not sure the costs is sustainable long term.

it’s so great to see the support here and all the success!

if anyone would like another code then here is mine.

Use my code and you’ll get 15% off your first order at ZAVA: REFSGZS6

An NSV! I put my hand on my hip earlier and wondered what the hard thing was that I could feel and realised it was my hip bone! I'd forgotten that feeling. For the past few years, if I'd put my hand there, it has just been squidgy. To be clear, there's still a good roll or two layer of flesh over my hips so it's not as if they're jutting out but definitely a difference
3mg has worked well for me this week. If I eat too many carbs, I have very soft bowel movements but nothing like diarrhoea. I had thought I might inject another 3mg yesterday or today but, so far, feel as though I'm controlling what I'm eating without getting hungry and enjoying the food that I am eating. We've just agreed to have an early dinner today so, if I get the munchies after that, I may inject.

Could we in theory sign up for two online pharmacies at once. So you could order two pens at a time? 🤔 I don't want labour to come wading in and cock it up for us. I've just bloody voted for them 🙄 posted it today

I've got two on the go 🤭

Lastchancefatty · 22/06/2024 16:25

@camerontucker I think I will do this. Means finding the extra money but at least I'll have some in reserve. I'm thinking the only risk would be if I had to stop suddenly for a medical reason and had excess pens. But I'm more anxious about making sure I am having a small supply available that's not going to be messed with

Soukmyfalafel · 22/06/2024 16:29

Just catching up. I'm in the 42 club too (only just though as I wasn't a few weeks back). It's funny a lot of us are the same age.

I've finally broke the mini stall but only by half a pound. I'll take that though. I bet it is back on tomorrow. 😁

I get eggy burps bad, but just have some mints to hand and avoid sulphury food on day 2 and 3 when it's at its worst. Not pleasant, but I find they come with a decent amount of suppresion unfortunately.

Soukmyfalafel · 22/06/2024 16:36

@toomanyjobsforonewoman bloody hell! That's fantastic! You must be very proud of yourself and what great achievement.

@Lastchancefatty what is this about Labour? Are they going to stop MJ or am i panicking and reading too much into that? I would be utterly baffled if any political party would stop self funded weight loss treatments, but I wouldn't put it past them as none of them make sensible decisions anymore and just do what the media tells them pretty much.

I'm toying with the idea of getting another pen. I said to myself I wouldn't though due to cost. I have a spare to save for the winter as I know I will need it and am working through what I hope to be my last one now. They seem to expire spring next year though, so don't want to stock up on something I (hopefully) won't need.

RunningAndSinging · 22/06/2024 16:46

I think it would be a good thing if we could go and see someone in person and be weighed to get the medication to avoid misuse of it and to have questions answered etc. The down side would be that it would end up costing a lot more to pay for the person’s time and consulting room space and we probably wouldn’t get away with using the 5 th dose as they would probably make us go for a consultation once every 4 weeks to get our new prescription.

Soukmyfalafel · 22/06/2024 16:46

GordanoBenito · 22/06/2024 12:44

Hi all,
I'm on week 13 and have one more dose of 7.5mg to take. I've experienced fantastic loss and appetite suppression so far and am feeling a bit hesitant about going up to 10mg. If anything I feel like I could start dosing down but got carried away and ordered the next dosage.

So, it's already sitting in my fridge and was my priciest pen so far so I don't want to waste it! Can anyone explain for me if I can count the clicks to do a lower dose with the 10mg pen? I was thinking either stay at 7.5mg or even go down to 5mg and see how I feel?

I did 52 clicks this week of 10mg, which is about 8.5 i believe. I felt like utter crap day 2 and 3, but this lifted pretty quick and supression is same as what 7.5 was, which wasn't amazing, but still getting full on a slightly smaller than average meal. I'm toying whether to do 10mg or not as I'm only a few lbs away from goal and will start slow reducing once there. I'm tempted to do 10mg this next week and try and go for a decent loss this next week. I have lost half a pound after about 10-14 days where I am at now. It's been on average about 1.25-2lb up until recently.

Hi everyone

Trying to catch up, love that this is so busy.

Into week 3 now and very tired today (third injection yesterday) but otherwise no real side effects.

SW 14st 10.4lb
CW 14st 3.6lbs
GW 10st 7lbs
Wk 1 -3.2lbs
Wk2 -3.6lbs

Really pleased so far and hope it continues but happy with a couple of lbs a week.
I've been reading about the importance of maintaining muscle so looking at starting Caroline Girven, anybody used her workouts?

Abigailandthefoxes · 22/06/2024 19:15

i had a wardrobe clear out a few months ago of stuff I loved that was far too small I’ve just arranged with my Mum and sister to go through it all and help me try it all on to see what I can retrieve and what needs to go that’s hanging in my wardrobe.

For those in the my protein watch - they are doing 20 serving cans for £15 on the app. So that's 75p per serving which seems to be as low as it gets. I've just bought 4 so delivery was free.

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/06/2024 19:36

I hate to be a downer but, as a prescriber myself, can I just point out that ordering from more than one supplier (if they were to audit and link prescriptions back to the patient) and stockpiling would show up in any prescribing audit as over-use and could do the suppliers' businesses as much harm as those people with lower BMIs. I absolutely understand why people want an extra one or two when approaching maintenance levels but I'm amazed that MedExpress allow ordering every 2 weeks which, as it is a 4 week supply, is not good clinical practice.

summerlovingvibes · 22/06/2024 19:38

On 5mg, due my next dose tomorrow. Hoping the pen I have bought (an old 2.5mg to do 2 doses with) works in the way I'm hoping!

When people say a "hard twist" or a "hard click" I'm guessing you actually mean you just have to twist it quite hard / push the plunger down quite hard?

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/06/2024 19:43

That's not getting at anybody here by the way. Just pointing out that a prescribing decision is made at the time of issue each time and the prescriber has a duty to check is this the best/correct medication, correct dose, being used correctly, any side-effects, any advice needed, prescribed within guidelines, etc etc and can be held liable if this is not done to standards

Threads are flying! Thanks @ObsidianTree for all the helpful info as always.

ive just tried CURATE20 and that worked for 20% off meaning my 7.5mg pen would be £151.51 posted but I think that’s just a bit more than Zava so think I’ll go with them. I’ve still got 2 doses + bonus left so it’s not urgent but just trying to make it as cost effective as possible!
