Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

@Slimstar13 I will keep buggering on, largely because I already have the next pen. Unfortunately I'm too old for it to be hormonal. I have read that there maybe some as yet little understood mechanism by which the jab at therapeutic doses increases metabolism so pinning my hopes on that!

SylviaStrong · 28/06/2024 08:05

@ObsidianTree I have not been that weight since my teens so no idea if I would want to go below that. How would they know anyway ?
I will be shopping around I expect as have a few more months to go on this journey .

Stickthatupyourdojo · 28/06/2024 08:10

Excellent work @spamm and @GlueNoGlue 💪🏼

Justkeeprollingalong · 28/06/2024 08:17

Good morning all. I've got a quiet morning and have been reading lots of posts. I'm a bit worried to see many people stick on the same MJ dose for a few months before increasing. I've been going up every month. Am I doing it wrong? I'm with Medexpress.

spottydogsarethebest · 28/06/2024 08:20

I'm thrilled this morning, after 3 weeks I've lost 12.75 pounds!!

This medication really is life changing. So pleased I took the plunge to order, honestly it's the first time I've ever felt hopeful to get healthy...also my BMI is now below 40 too. Amazing.

I REALLY want to get those extra few off next week to make it a stone in a month.

Thank you everyone for your continued support, I love this thread and read it twice a day. Have a great day everyone. x

Are you getting good suppression with minimal side effects? If so, perfect! Some are slowing the progression of titration due to side effects

Morning! I’m 3.1/4 down this week 🙂

SW 14.12
CW 13.5.3/4
GW ??

I am 340g from 21lbs. However, consider that I had my holiday and break from MJ, my first post holiday WI on 7th June had me exactly a stone heavier than today so 10lbs of my nearly 21 I’ve lost twice 😂

Next mini target is 12.12 by the end of July 🤞

butterfly0404 · 28/06/2024 08:32

1st full week since starting my MJ journey, 3.5 pounds down. Second jab today. I'm pretty chuffed with that :-)

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 28/06/2024 08:35

Well done to everyone, some great losses this week again 🎉

My weigh in this week has hit a 4 stone loss which I'm really happy about ☺️.

Starting weight 15st 11lb 8oz (21 Feb)
Last week's weight 12st 0lb 4oz
Current weight 11st 11lb

My scales now show my visceral fat is fine and my protein levels are now also in green for the first time. I still have very high levels of subcutaneous fat to lose.

2 stones left to lose to hit a bmi of 25.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 28/06/2024 08:42

Incredible @PissedOffNeighbour22 well done

susiedaisy1912 · 28/06/2024 08:44

3wDavid · 28/06/2024 07:04

My debacle with the scales continues this morning as well.

I’ve been up and down the same 1 lbs since Monday. It’s beyond frustrating. But weirdly, I don’t have that throwing the towel mentality. I think maybe just for my mental health, I’ll step away from the scales for a few days/a week. But will continue with everything else. I think the daily weighing is not the healthiest for me for situations like this because I can start obsessing.

I would leave it a week before you weigh again. This hot weather creates a water retention problem for so many of us.
This week I've had a migraine because of the heat and so I already know my body isn't coping with the weather and it will result in fluid retention so I made the decision not to step on the scales for a week. No point in setting myself up for disappointment.

@Slimstar13
Thank you for the comprehensive reply, it really helps. Yes, I've wanted to stick to the guidelines, for instance I'm not using the bonus
dose. Also, I've been very lucky and had very few side-effects. I'm extremely pleased with it so far!
Thanks again

Justkeeprollingalong · 28/06/2024 09:09

@Letsgoogogo @NewLifter
Thank you so much for your replies. It's good to have the reassurance. I've been very lucky with minimal side-effects and good weight loss, averaging about 1 1/2 to 2 lb a week, some weeks are zero and some weeks are three!

@Slimstar13 You sound like you have been having fantastic results, I have results envy 🙂I kinda wish I hadn't ordered 2 5mg pens after reading that.

I'm another who is noticing some positive results outside of weight loss. Although I don't think I look different yet, I'm not waking up in the night with back pain any more. This is making for some lovely, lovely sleep.

Mounjaroooooh · 28/06/2024 09:24

I'm a Mounjaro newbie, my first order is due today and I'm a bit concerned I'm going to do something wrong and bugger up my pen/injection. I'm confused re the clicks people are talking about, what I need to do to get the first dose, how I know it's correct and how I get the 'extra' 5th dose? Can someone explain, in simple terms, what I have to do to get my first dose, how the needles work etc and if the needles are easy to attach/use. I did post a couple of other posts on the July starters but got absolutely no response so thought I'd post this on here. Help me please!

Have a look on TT or you tube for some good videos on how to do the jabs. It's so simple once you've done it once.

Fromthesidelines · 28/06/2024 09:32

@Mounjaroooooh The pens come with detailed instructions. I was very nervous first time but actually it was very straightforward. I also found various videos on YouTube helpful to watch. You only need to worry about clicks if you decide not to follow standard dosing schedule, which is something you wouldn't do for a while, if at all.
Good luck!
