Continuing Mounjaro...part 14

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

Zava medical:
2.5mg £139, 5mg £139, 7.5mg £169, 10mg £189. 12.5mg £204. Zava offer refer a friend discount of 15% off. Ask for a code on here.

There are others not listed.

18 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision

Boots: Cut off at BMI 23
Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI

I've literally just had a new pen yesterday so thought it re-set every time / have only just posted the link for the new re-set a couple of minutes ago so no way could 5 people have already used it?

summerlovingvibes · 27/06/2024 06:18

@GreyFinch I've never actually looked / noticed before - are the boxes not normally ticked for you when no-one has as used the code yet?

GreyFinch · 27/06/2024 06:23

When you next get the confirmation your order has been approved have a look, none of them will be ticked and it says you’re 3 referrals away from 100% and then each time it’s used one box will get ticked and the bottom bit will change too

summerlovingvibes · 27/06/2024 06:27

Thanks so much.
Hopefully this means for some reason I have had previous referrals carried over to my next order unless it takes a while to re-set. Thanks for advising me.

Lastchancefatty · 27/06/2024 06:30

@summerlovingvibes How quickly do Voy approve? We all work but DH is home certain days so I'm wanting to time it right for delivery. Who do they use? Thanks

summerlovingvibes · 27/06/2024 06:32

@Lastchancefatty they used Royal Mail tracked next day delivery.

They approve pretty quick and if you aren't available they don't require a signature or you can update your delivery preference on the Royal Mail website. I am on subscription though so it's an automatic thing for me.

So much inspiration in these feeds, I've lost 6lbs in 8 days and really happy so far. Ordered from med express and thinking about switching to Zava. Their continuation packages look really good value, but I'm concerned about commuting to staggering up each month. Is the saving worth the risk?

Jpeg24 · 26/06/2024 20:42

Evening all.

I need some help and advice! Did 4wks on 2.5, then 1 wk on 5 but was a bit sick so took 3.75 for 1 wk. Was due it again last Thurs but was sick so took 2.5 on Monday. Buuutttt I don't feel anything on it, hungry and back to normal. Could I top up to be 3.75 now and if so then when should I take next one??

Thanks x

I would wait until 5 days have passed since your last 2.5mg jab and then do 3.75mg. Try that as your new weekly dose for a few weeks to see how it suits you. I'm in exactly the same situation funnily enough and that's what I'm going to do.

Jaijai38 · 27/06/2024 07:14

I use Voy and they send you a message when they are preparing and then when dispatched - you then get an email from Royal Mail saying they have it - from here you can click and get the parcel addres changed - I get it delivered to my local post office so easy to pick up

I AM IN DOUBLE FIGURES!!!! After my grumble the other day, I hopped on the scale this morning and I was under 100kg at last!

Congratulations! It's a great feeling isn't it?

ZAVA 15% off discounts are for a max £30 only so from a cost point of view I think it's cheaper to buy pens one at a time as long as your referral code has been used so you get 15% off each pen.

BlackFriYay · 27/06/2024 07:25

I had a little 2lb whoosh and have now reached the 3 stone loss milestone 🤗

SW - 13 stone 8lbs
CW - 10 stone 7.5lbs
GW - 9 stone 3lbs

1 stone 4.5lbs left to go!

pinktransit · 27/06/2024 07:29

It's weigh in Thursday again.
Not quite a stall, I have lost 10oz this week, but it feels like a stall. And I've gone up from a daily weigh earlier this week. 😥
However, it's still a downward trend.

SW: 12.6.6 (first MJ jab) - before that I was 12.12 ish.
CW: 10.10.4
IGW: 10.0.0

I must remember that I haven't been a 10 anything for over a decade, so even a tiny loss is a good thing and is all adding up to the bigger picture.

Also, this week's NSV is that I can now wear a belt that has been sitting in a drawer for years. And I can do it up on the second hole!

I realised too that when I first started on this journey, jab day was a bit of a 'thing'. I got everything ready, geared myself up for it, sat on the sofa. A bit of a ceremony really. Now, it's grab what I need and jab while the kettle boils for tea, standing at the kitchen sink. It's amazing how quickly something becomes routine.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 27/06/2024 07:32

Congratulations on the losses 😁

After what I’m attributing to a heat related gain, I’ve had a mini whoosh and I’m now below 90kg. So happy.

SW 215lbs
CW 198lbs
GW 147lbs

onwards and downwards

Grace79Grace · 27/06/2024 07:33

Help!
I bought a while ago and sat in fridge for few weeks. The box is frozen but I don't know if the pen has gotten frozen at some point too Confused would you still use it?

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 27/06/2024 07:33

I still don’t think I look any differenr

RagzRebooted · 27/06/2024 07:54

@summerlovingvibes they don't carry over, once you've got 3 there's no point sharing it any more as it will reset to 0 after your order goes through. Well done though! I think I've only managed 4 referrals over 4 months and several of those were people I actually know.

Flowersandbubblegum · 27/06/2024 07:56

Please can I ask if anyone has a medexpress code? Xx

I don't think they allow codes on Mounjaro except possibly £5 off.

This happened to me, in my case it was just half of the box that was frozen.

I checked if the liquid was clear, it was. I then used a syringe to extract some to make sure it was still liquid and not ice.

If its cloudy it has likely been frozen.

I'm starting on that pen on Monday so we'll see how it goes but it should be OK.

summerlovingvibes · 27/06/2024 08:33

@RagzRebooted That's what I thought / why I was confused as I literally had my order yesterday so know I won't have got 5 over night which is why I was asking if I was maybe reading it won't. Maybe they take a bit of time to re-set it back to zero.

mcdle · 27/06/2024 08:39

Thanks @Choux that makes sense.

FlappyFish · 27/06/2024 08:40

Good morning all!

Week 19 (?!?!) weigh in.

I’ve said before I’m not chasing numbers anymore and I’m not. This is more for the thread to show how much weightless slows etc.

SW:14.1
CW: 10.9

BMI 23.5.

I’ve lost 7lbs in the last month.

3wDavid · 27/06/2024 09:05

Morning!

Congrats to all losers!!

It's official weigh-in day for me and jab day. Just did jab number 6 at 2.5 mg this morning. Whoever said upthread how we now do it while the kettle boils - spot on! 😆It took me a total of 15 seconds, none of the jittery nervousness of before.

I am feeling down today, not gonna lie - if we look at pure stats - I do have a loss this week. However, it's only 700 grams / 1.5 lbs. I know, I know - a loss is a loss, slow and steady wins the race, doing it sustainably, yada yada yada.
But I have been losing almost double that in the past 3 weeks, and this week I had a 2 day stall, and now a 2 day gain, so just annoyed. I'm eating balanced meals, within my calorie deficit, going for 10000 steps a day, drinking my water...so the scale today - boardeline disrespectful. I blame it (and hope it is) because I am ovulating...and maybe some water retention or something.... I just know I'm ready for some whooshing, and to see 97 on the scales!!
