Mounjaro - how quickly did you notice its effect?

Hello, I'm about to start taking Mounjaro tomorrow on the starter dose of 2.5mg, and wondered if any of you who have been taking it for a while can tell me how soon the effects kicked in. Given that a full dose is 10mg plus, I am dubious that such a small dose will do anything at all, given how large I am and how huge my appetite is. Would love to hear from you with any feedback! Thank you.

Hello.

It was the next day for me but I've never really had what I would call total suppression. Never really had much in the way of side effects and I've been on it about 8 weeks now.

I've never gone up from 2.5mg and never needed to. For me, it cuts down a lot of food noise and enables me to eat smaller portions. I also exercise!

I've attached a photo below - I was 14 stone 12 ish and I'm close to a 3 stone loss now

Good luck to you!

For me it started working the very next day. I am also doing 16:8 fasting diet with it and both are working really well. Lost 8lbs during the first few weeks. I don’t have any side affects, maybe a bit of bloating. Starting on a higher dose on Friday. Can’t wait to see the results. Good luck 🤞🏻

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/06/2024 00:50

The manufacturers say that 2.5mg is a subtherapeutic dose and is just to allow the body to get used to the drug and so minimise side effects as you go up to higher doses but some people seem to get a response to it. Some of those will be a placebo effect but it seems unlikely all would be.
Lots don't get effects until higher doses though so all you can do is keep an open mind and hope!

HistoriaTrixie · 20/06/2024 01:19

I could tell it was working within about eighteen hours (tbh it might have been twelve hours but I was asleep at that time😂) You wouldn't think the starter dose would have much effect but it definitely does. The day after I took the shot I had...not just zero, but negative-100 interest in food. I had to set timers to make myself eat something for the first while. The effect begins to wane a bit four or five days into the shot and it's easier to eat but nothing like it is before. One thing I wish I'd done when I first started is to make sure to get plenty of protein every day and keep up with weight-bearing exercise. I've lost a bunch of muscle mass and am having to work hard to get it back.

Doobydolly · 20/06/2024 04:35

tiger that’s amazing - you have lost 3 stone in 8 weeks? What have you been eating? You must have been severely restricting your intake to achieve such a big loss in such a short time!

Historia I’m hoping the starter dose will have a similar impact! And thanks for the advice re protein. How do you know you’ve lost so much muscle mass btw?

It worked within 24 hours for me. I’ve lost 1.5 stone in 2 months. I’m wasting smaller portions , less snacking and an Infornal intermittent fasting. 2.5 mg all the way.
Starting weight 15 ,10

ClonedSquare · 20/06/2024 08:32

I took my dose before bed and the effect was happening as soon as I woke up the next morning. I've never had any "bad" side effects so it was just the appetite suppression and lack of food noise that I felt immediately.

I’m just over six weeks in (took my third 5mg on Sunday) and I’ve lost 21lbs so far. That’s with me eating dramatically less compared to before, but never really feeling deprived and still having the odd treat or meal out.

TigerTyger · 20/06/2024 08:54

@Doobydolly no not really tbh! Although MJ has given me the ability to really cut down on what I eat

I make a protein smoothie for breakfast, yesterday had a rocket, walnut, pear and feta salad with oil and balsamic for lunch and then a very small bowl of pasta for dinner. Ate a protein bar and two nectarines also.

Crucially I do some exercise every day - either a spin class, swimming or some weights

WannabeHealthier · 20/06/2024 09:03

I lost 1 stone on 2.5 - my largest loss on any dose.

I think you need to change your mindset- MJ is a tool to help you- it’s not a magic pill.

You should be starting a low calorie diet alongside the MJ so to start with you can rely on willpower like any other diet… if you don’t feel the effect at the lower dose you will still lose weight.

When MJ really kicks in you will feel the effects….Unlike other diets when you’ve run out of willpower after a few weeks, the therapeutic doses (5 and above) will help you to keep eating a low calorie diet and stop you from bingeing and giving up.

Consistency and long term dietary changes are key to sustainable weight loss and this is what MJ will help you with. There are no quick fixes and although I’m on 7.5mg it’s still hard work… I log everything that passes my lips and monitor my nutrient intake closely.

Despite all that, MJ is amazing and life changing… I have failed so many diets and I’m thriving on this (and I say that despite being in 1 month stall… I’ve lost 35lbs in 3.5 months)

That is a pretty incredible weight loss Tiger you must be delighted! I’ve just had my first jab and waiting for the effects to kick in!! I did take Ozempic a couple of year ago and managed to lose about 2 stone on it but found I piled it all back on again when I stopped taking it. Am determined not to let that happen this time - if the Mounjaro has the desired effect! Tho from
what I understand it’s an even more effective drug. Fingers crossed !!

I’m on my second week of taking Mounjaro 2.5ml and have found it helps with suppressing the desire to eat all the time to an extent and helps me feel less hungry. I lost 4lbs in my first week last week. I took it in the evening and felt the effects the next morning.

The reason I am so overweight isn’t just that I’m always hungry, but also because I eat when I’m not hungry and carry on eating because I love the taste of food. So although Mounjaro helps, it definitely needs to be coupled with willpower and some mental discipline from me too. I’m only able to apply that because I keep reminding myself I’ve spent a heck of a lot of money on this and that this is a last resort after so many failed starts.

I’ve dieted before hundreds of times but always seem to give up on the 3rd or 4th week. I’m hoping this will give me some help in breaking through that. I’m 5.5 stone overweight but want to lose 4 stone.

Food noise comes and goes for me. I find I can’t be bothered to eat as much as before and some foods just don’t appeal to me at all any more. But at the same time, there are moments when I just want a fat slice of chocolate cake or a big bag of crisps. I haven’t given in yet. Hope I can keep it up.

Last week when I started, I did some meal prep and stocked up on soup, salad and chicken. I found that helped because when I was hungry I was able to eat the healthier food I’d prepared, whereas this week I’m just reaching for the regular family meals.

It's really obvious from the size of my calves and upper arms (most of my fat was in the central region). I have pretty scrawny chicken legs now!

cakewench · 27/08/2024 19:18

My first week I had 100% suppression, similar to the poster above who described a complete non-interest in food. I had to remind myself to eat the bare minimum those days (I decided to lean into the suppression in case it wore off!)

I did, and still do, continue to prioritise protein and most days I have a couple of eggs as well as some lean meat and/or Greek yogurt as well as hummus for a snack.

I do cardio for a minimum of a half hour a day, but this is something I've been doing for the last year (since I had a blood test which showed my cholesterol was high, among other issues) for my health. I intend to add some weight training if I can find the time! It's hard fitting the cardio in as well as work and family tbh but I'd like to keep myself as healthy as possible..

MyPlumZebra · 17/09/2024 09:41

I am due to go up to 5mg on Friday, the 1st 3 weeks on 2.5 i felt ok, but i used to inj on a Sunday but felt by Friday it has worn off so was surviving on willpower and that meant treats crept back in over the weekend so changed it last week to Friday so fingers crossed this weekend is better, i a not exercising and funnily enough not weighing my self,i want to feel it not look at numbers, i know bizarre but just how i have yoyo dieted over the years and watching those numbers go up n down didnt help me, my trousers feel abit looser so going with that, i am drinking protein drinks in the morning as never eaten breky so they work for me, and have another 2 meals, but tend not to 'snack' only had a nectarine yesterday mid morning, totally cuts out the food noise, i don't exercise but think i should be, anyone else not exercising and still loosing??its just i work in a hospital so sat down then when home I get on with home stuff so no time really

StiggyZardust · 13/10/2024 12:12

I started on Friday. I've been feeling a bit spaced out and with occasional nausea, but nothing too severe. My appetite is greatly reduced and I get full very quickly. I was eating far too much. I've lost 1.5kgs already.

FlappingMadly · 13/10/2024 12:36

I felt it almost immediately, at first feeling slightly nauseated but no ill affects since then.
Good luck! Plan your meals to have protein and insoluble carbs each time. And I suggest you jump on the October starters thread.

TidyDancer · 13/10/2024 12:44

I noticed effects the next day and have now lost 1.5stone in just over 6 weeks.

Btw there is a dedicated thread for sharing MedExpress codes so these shouldn't be shared in this thread.

tellmeitsnotjustme12 · 13/10/2024 12:45

I felt it the next day and started loosing immediately. I was happy loosing 1-2 lbs per week so have stayed on low dose after tried a few weeks at 7.5 and didn’t like the symptoms (currently on 5mg) and have had limited symptoms at that dose. Have lost just under 2 stone since June, one more stone to go.

farfromideal · 13/10/2024 12:49

Next day and I've had no side effects. I started 1st August at 84kg and I'm now 75kg. I'm sticking to 5mg as I feel that's fine for me. I don't want to lose weight any faster as I'm exercising as well to make sure I don't end up flabby

Adelstrop · 13/10/2024 14:50

Next day. 6 weeks in and still on 2.5 My appetite is not suppressed as such, but I don't feel actively hungry; that is, I can eat a meal but don't have the urge to snack and am easily able to choose healthier options for main meals.

FlappingMadly · 13/10/2024 15:47

You know full well codes are for one thread only.

Nonnahopeful · 10/01/2025 22:39

I’m about to do my first jab on Monday and nervous about doing it properly. I am excited to start the weight loss journey as have tried so many other diets . I gather protein daily is a must .

How long can Monjaro be stored in the fridge before I can use it
