Continuing Mounjaro... Thread 12

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

@Sabblue

I had this on my first couple of injections but then went and haven't had since. It was like an immune response that my body then realised wasn't necessary and got used to.

Are you using MedExpress and using their needles? I've found their needles not great and cause me bruising so bought a different brand myself (look for 4mm insulin pen needles, preferably 32g but 31g fine (the 32 means slightly slimmer than 31). If you're using those it might be causing some irritation that your body is responding to with an immune response.

Thanks @lurkylurk its a valid point about needles, the current pen and needles are from Medexpress! The next pen is different as from Zava so will be interesting to see if this will change! thanks
its just itchy and thats what is a bit annoying :)

pinktransit · 07/06/2024 11:15

Has anyone used Pharmulous?
Looks like they're cheaper for 7.5mg, but I've not heard of them before.

They seem to be very new as an online pharmacy, all their Google reviews are recent, however they are properly registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and their Superintendent pharmacist is properly registered and they had a satisfactory inspection in April this year. Can't find any information about who their prescribing doctor is.

In terms of maintenance doses, there's someone on Reddit who is US based, reached their goal weight 7 months ago and has since been taking one 5mg jab monthly to maintain, with success.

They have the single use vials over there so no pen expiry issues...

But in my head it's great to know that that works for people.

I'm definitely 12-18 months off needing a maintenance dose so I have time for the guidelines to catch up with what users need...

This will be tricky for us for sure as our pens are only meant to last 30 days!

Looking at all the various discounts (or not as the case may be), I'm actually am finding that Voy (using someone's discount code) could now well be the cheapest?

A pen for 10mg is £229 but with Voy, although they're not doing 50% discount for a new user, they are doing £85 off which now brings the pen down to £144

I presume it's only for new users to Voy I guess?

I've been in touch with MedExpress but they said I couldn't use them as my BMI is below 30!!
It was before I started on MJ but now is 27.6 🤷🏼‍♀️

So for those of you who've not used Voy before, here's my code 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 that you can get your £85 discount!

Is anybody else more emotional?

It's likely period week (I have the kyleena coil)

But I am crying at songs much easier than usual! I cannot listen to Billie Eilish 'what am I here for' in fact just typing that I'm welling up!

No idea if mj, peri or what 😭😂 but I think I'm too young for peri yet, and I know family hasn't or didn't start until 45-50

Oh my god this is me.
We're a house of swifties currently making outfits and friendship bracelets with TTPD on repeat... And I. Can't. Stop. Crying. Even if I sing without music I get all tearful and waily. I'm 36 and hopefully not perimenopausal yet!

I feel for anyone sat near me at wembley 😂

CiderJabs · 07/06/2024 12:05

@ObsidianTree I don't know them so I'm not sure what they have done. Agree it's odd to have stayed on 5 and not lose. I never knew non responders were a thing so maybe she's one of them?

I would assume it was bought from a reputable pharmacy but you can never know!

I actually reported a post the other day as someone was offering the jab cheap 😤

HanSB · 07/06/2024 12:09

I was planning on switching to The Family Chemist as webpage showed 12.5 and 15 as £185 earlier this week but refreshing today they have increased both doses to £199 - sneaky! I'm sticking with Bolt for now which is also £199 for 12.5/15 as don't want the hassle of chasing codes that may not be around going forwards.

you will be better off with Zava with a 15% discount code (REFPSTBB or other posted here as well) I paid £143 for 7.5mg plus delivery 3.99
it will also be cheaper on 10mg if you use the code

CiderJabs · 07/06/2024 08:34

Has anyone heard of someone not losing any weight at all? A friend of a friend has been on it for 12 weeks and has not lost a single pound. They are moving up to 7.5g now in the hope that it works so there is hope. I know some people lose slower than others but I've not seen anyone not losing anything.

On the Reddit boards (US and U.K.) a lot of people don’t lose until they’re on the higher doses - for some that’s 7.5 for others it’s 10 or 15. Do you know why she’s moved up so slowly?

I was a bit worried about being a non-responder as 2.5 did nothing for me but just going up to 3.75 has made a difference to appetite surpression so assuming (hoping!) 5 and up will be the sweet spot for me.

Has she been tracking or counting? I really, really do not want to have to count or track anything as it puts me in a bad place mentally but might have to reconsider that depending on losses, now appetite surpression is kicking in for me it shouldn’t be such an ordeal.

MedExpress are usually quite happy to prescribe under 30 if you have proof that you are already taking MJ. Were you asked for photos?

its just itchy and thats what is a bit annoying :)

I started using med ex needles this week as I previously got to batches of seven needles from Asda and had some left over (Novofine, very good) and I itched a lot too. Only had bruising on my first go with the novofine needles as I was heavy handed and no other issues. Sadly can't find Novofine anywhere, so ordered another highly rated brand. I leaked a bit with the med ex needles (possibly user error as I didn't pinch the flab) and haven't had great suppression this week, so not risking it again.

Does anyone know how many weeks you can go between orders with med ex. I don't know if I'm going to need another one yet, but don't want to be cut off.

Soukmyfalafel · 07/06/2024 13:09

Reading new threads about new online pharmacies. Not sure if these weight loss injections are creating this, or the fact that it's probably quicker to get your health sorted via an online pharmacy than seeing an actual GP.

Muddleofpud · 07/06/2024 13:12

I feel so sick today 🤢

Scalessayeek · 07/06/2024 13:28

Hey everyone. Just checking in today, it's day 101 for me, half way through my second 5mg pen and nearly half way to my weight loss goal (may lower it if all goes well!)

50lbs down today :)

Ghilliedu · 07/06/2024 13:30

@Soukmyfalafel I also started off using the novofine needles and i searched high and low for them, including having 4 orders cancelled with Chemist4u. They are impossible to find!

AgathaMystery · 07/06/2024 13:30

Afternoon all… I have a NSV….

I’m doing a clinical shift today coz there were no staff and I felt sorry for everyone. Decided my uniform (16) was a bit baggy so went to get a new one. There were no 14 so I grabbed a 12 with no expectations.

it fits, and it is roomy.

Now this doesn’t mean I’m a 12, or just means I’m an NHS uniform 12. But my mind is BLOWN. I’ve not fit in this size in a decade. I cannot believe it.

Wonkypictureframe · 07/06/2024 13:36

Thanks for this, I found that I had some leak from the injection as well. For me the 5mg I'm on doesn't give me much appetite suppression, I eat less but still think about food a lot. I don't eat a lot of takeways but for some reason now think about them a lot. Thank god the headache is gone. I have a bonus dose left and moving to 7.5mg. so far nearly 1 stone lost, guess always something but I have a lot to lose so feels like its too slow.

ihatecoffee · 07/06/2024 13:39

@Wonkypictureframe
No they just refused
I'd told them I was currently on MJ but was wanting 10mg (with a code as this was a couple of weeks ago when a few codes still worked)
They just said no as my BMI was under 30!

It's a bit irrelevant now as MedExpress are more expensive, but I'm wondering how many more of us will (or are) having problems moving over

So I've been looking around but have found Voy is the cheapest now (with a code)

Not sure why all pharmacies seem to be cashing in!!

Wonkypictureframe · 07/06/2024 13:45

How weird. I’ve got a MedExpress credit I was going to use for my next pen but have gone off to somewhere else for 10mg. I wonder if I’ll get the same response. Wondering now if I should just buy one from them now while I’m still in the window.

toomanycushionshere · 07/06/2024 13:47

Hi all. I've just ordered my first load and am now going sit and hit refresh on my email all day to see if it's sent out! I'm so excited and trying to stay really positive about it working (and not assume that it won't).

I've ordered from Med Express but have now seen comments above about their needles being a bit rubbish? Can anyone link me to some that might work better? I'm assuming that it's fairly straight forward to swap them over? Any beginners tips also very gratefully received!
