Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I've got to say I've had no problems with med express needles. No leakage or bruising at all

Hi, If anyone else is looking for a Zava code mine hasn’t been used yet, there was a bit of a chain going in the last thread but mine accidentally got skipped so the next person to order after me used the same person whose one I had used! Would really appreciate the next person using it 🥰

REFQ9EK8

Sabblue · 07/06/2024 14:04

just checked and the needles sent by Zava are novofine 0.25 x6mm and they sent 7 not 4 which is amazing

dmott · 07/06/2024 14:14

I've also had no issue with med express needles

On previous posts I've mentioned my bruising issue and after some experimenting I was only bruising when I did my injections standing and pushing hard when sitting and being gentle I have had none.

Don't get me wrong med express needles are "cheaper" but in my experience that's just the plastic parts not the actual needles.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 07/06/2024 14:20

@Eyesofmistyblue thanks for your code, I've just ordered using it. I am wary they may reject it though as I'm near goal weight but will email them photos of my existing prescription with medexpress.

My code for Zava for anyone else needing one is REF7WMM8

I don't think I have seen anyone mentioning this but have any of you had any allergic/redness/red patch reaction in the place where you inject yourself? I have a very red itchy patch every time (now on 5mg, had nothing on 2,5mg) that stays on my belly for weeks (this week was my 4th dose and I still can see the patch from 2nd one) I hope it won't get worse on 7.5mg!

I got one after my first jab but it cleared with an anti histamine tablet. Next dose I took the anti histamine prior to the injection and didn’t get a reaction.

I’ve had exactly the same. Nothing on 2.5mg but since moving to 5mg I get a hard lump where I inject and then it spreads out and is incredibly itchy to the point I now have loads of little scabs on my stomach from breaking the skin. I have stretch marks from pregnancy and it seems to be the stretch marks that swell and then the skin breaks, presumably as it’s thinner and more fragile. It seems to stop by day 6 but then comes back when I inject again

toomanycushionshere · 07/06/2024 14:28

Thanks everyone - good to know re Med Express needles.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/06/2024 14:59

I got the predicted BS email from med express re why they aren't accepting the code the sent to me specifically for use on MJ.

Whoever Lea is, she can't read properly and also can't be arsed to send a reply that in any way answers the questions asked. Not a surprise in the slightest.

That's exactly the same as the email they sent me so they must be doing a copy and paste to anyone who mentions codes 😕

@Eyesofmistyblue have you considered doing it in two halves, either twisting the dial halfway or loading the full dose, pushing it halfway in then removing and reentering at a different point?

montysma1 · 07/06/2024 15:50

Curate got back to me saying they will have 12.5mg in stock on Monday for dispatch Tues. I have it in my shopping basket at £170
Aaaargh!
Dont know what to! Tempted to stay with Med Express , but it's £39 pounds more!
Just worried about moving about and getting accepted under bmi30 even if it's continuing treatment etc.
If I could even blag the £10 credit that some folk , that would make it slightly less painful!

Other question. Voy keeps getting touted with the £85 off. Is that for all doses?
I was under the impression that it was only for starter dose and I dont want to have to sort out that whole nightmare if they sent the wrong thing. Has anybody definitely had £85 off a higher dose?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/06/2024 16:16

@BlackFriYay yeah it's clearly copied and pasted. It's really annoyed me as I wanted to know so I could get it ordered today. I'm working away from the middle of the week so can't be messing around with a new supplier emailing back and forwards for photos etc.

I've replied telling them to answer the bloody question and that I want it registering as a complaint now. Can't imagine they'll bother to reply.

GordanoBenito · 07/06/2024 16:29

Hi all, I'm feeling a bit down today as it's my first weigh day without a loss. I'm week 2 of 7.5mg.

Overall, it's been great for me so far but it's really made me feel low not to have lost anything this week. I've still got no appetite ( except for day 6 each week) so almost forcing myself to eat anything at all.

Anyone else plateaued around this stage and it just got moving again?

ThirdStorm · 07/06/2024 16:49

@GordanoBenito try to keep the faith. I had no loss in week 5 and I felt so negative. I stayed on 2.5 too so felt like I’d made a mistake. But a stall is normal. Just focus on what your doing and it will come right. I upped my water with electrolytes, upped protein, stuck to my calories.

Good shout. Let us know if they reply. They're not doing themselves any favours. I only got one order with a code before they stopped them, having switched over from bolt. I'm starting to wish I hadn't bothered.

Madferitchick · 07/06/2024 17:51

Can anyone recommend what electrolytes are good please?

@BlackFriYay I'll post it on here if they bother to reply. I've only been with them for 2 or 3 orders. I was with Asda before so would have gone back to them, but they've changed their delivery to dpd apparently so that's put me off. I'll probably end up switching supplier again for this month's order.

MrsBurtMacklin · 07/06/2024 18:45

My goodness, I didn't even realise we were on thread 12 yet, and now there's 10 pages?!

Anyway. Weigh in day for me. Week 10 (I think). I've lost 1.4 lbs this week.

SW: 263.6 lbs
CW: 239.4
Total lost: 24.2 lbs

I have been drinking so much water this week to try and lose as I seem to be on a bit of a plateau. Finally lost weight again over the past two days.

Hope everyone has had a good Friday. Off to catch up!

guestusername · 07/06/2024 19:33

Good evening! I got back from Greece in the early hours. I had an amazing time. I went on the Thursday and did my injection on the Tuesday before. I can’t lie, I was bloody miserable for the first few days because I could literally only eat a few mouthfuls and missed out on some delicious food so although I had my pen and needles, opted to have a break from it. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted it and while I was still mindful of what I was eating, it was worth every bite 😆 I did tons of walking which helped to keep the gain down. I jumped on the scales this morning and my gain was exactly what I thought it would be but it was 5 hours after getting off the plane so know full well that some of that is water retention.

I’ve done my injection today and am resetting. I’m fine with my choices and consequences and know what I need to do. I might even sneak into the gym this weekend, maybe 😂
