Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks all for the yoghurt advice. I've tried most of the brands recommended and just can't get on with the texture. Think I'll try the protein puddings instead, they sound much nicer. I already eat natural yoghurt which seems to have the same protein as Greek, just wanted that extra easy win really!

Thesnowfellfast · 28/05/2024 11:50

Currently on week 3 of 7.5mg. I struggled with bad side effects on 5mg until I was on my last week, then it settled down. My first week of 7.5mg went fine, but my last week has been rocky and after my 3rd shot on Sunday, I'm feeling so rough.
I have serious food aversion again and feel nauseous most of the time. Hoping it will settle, but any tips or tricks are welcomed!

I have 1 more shot in this 7.5mg pen and have another 7.5mg pen in the fridge. I don't intend to do any more after that. To reach my goal weight I have just less than 1st to lose. I'm not sure whether to just go to the end of the 2nd 7.5mg pen, even if it takes me below my goal and then if I put some back on after stopping it won't matter, or whether to buy some extra needles and start weening myself down with the 2nd 7.5mg pen.

Has anyone reached goal weight and stopped now? Or does anyone else have a plan for coming off?

Don't want to be one of those fails that puts it all back on again once the medication stops!

CiderJabs · 28/05/2024 12:59

@Thesnowfellfast I'm close to you in terms of weight to lose. I have 12lbs (ish). My plan is to finish this 5mg pen and use the 7.5 I have in the fridge. I think I will do 5mg twice and then 3.75 until the pen finishes. It does mean the pen will be open longer than recommended but I'm hoping that will be ok as the pen will be in the fridge.

FlappyFish · 28/05/2024 13:08

@WoolyMammoth55 @montysma1 @thehousewiththesagegreensofa and everyone else who commented. Thank you so much for making me feel less alone.

I have never managed to lose weight. Not really. The most I’ve done is lose a stone. Otherwise it’s been a gradual thing. Certainly not a drop like I’ve just done.

I don’t exercise really. I need to. I have to make time to put it in.

and @WoolyMammoth55 I completely understand that. I got a degree. Bought a house. Settled down. Work wise I’m probably in the top 5%. I’d say now I’m sober I’m a pretty nice person too. 😂

But to some family, (extended!) my turning up to a family weekend with a big weight loss was like I’d just won an Oscar. I guess because it’s so visible and not a bit of paper.

🤦🏻‍♀️

That's really interesting @WoolyMammoth55 and I think you have put into words something I've been aware of but not properly appreciated

@ClonedSquare what about making some chia seed puddings? There are recipes all over the internet.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 28/05/2024 13:21

@WoolyMammoth55 I feel the same a lot of the time. How did someone this clever end up in this state due to food? But it’s not our fault although it is our responsibility to sort out.

sweetpickle2 · 28/05/2024 13:24

A little NSV- I measured myself when I started at end of April with a tape measure, and I've just done it again... have lost 2 inches off my hips and waist!

Emailed MedExpress this morning re pricing and they've sent me 10% off code so I can be get 10mg for same price as 7.5mg pretty much.

That's odd, they have replied this to me today:

lookd like family chemist are about the be inundated!

@ObsidianTree this is the reply I received. Disappointing!

*Thank you for reaching out to us.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this.

I wonder if the codes have all stopped because they don’t need to discount. Everyone is buying it anyway it seems and once you’ve passed the 2.5 and 5 you are less likely to stop if you’ve committed to the journey.

Yes true. As they have been cheapest for so long they probably have loads of customers now. Especially as more and more people are starting MJ and going to them.

Flapearedknave · 28/05/2024 13:56

Just ordered through family chemist and sent pic of prescription via their email.

They 'suggested' taking a pic of scales while stood on them, which i did. But I think it only being a suggestion is a bit iffy.

That's likely it. Should have mentioned that we have several hundred people at least on here 😂 that theyau lose.

Changing to family was no different to doing the med express form every month. Just emailed my 7.5, but they didn't ask for it.

If I want runnier I add some almond milk too eg in overnight oats.
I like the protein mousses in Aldi but keen on pudding texture.

@Mrsmounjaro Ignore your mum. I wouldn’t tell mine in a million years she is slim and has never had weight issues.
Shes extremely judgmental re weight calls people big.
I have an apron and will after I’ve lost weight too. Only a tummy tuck would repair muscles ruined in pregnancy or my cheaper option is Sloggi knickers.

0rganisedchaos · 28/05/2024 14:35

@NC543210 I'm not sure " I'm glad to hear you're also struggling on 5" is the term I actually want to use but I'm very much in the same boat and glad to hear it's not just me. I have one more week of 5mg then I think I'll go ahead and scale up although my initial plan was to stay on each level for as long as I could. I felt I had much better appetite suppression on 2.5mg. your weight loss is fab I've lost 17lbs so far but like yourself the majority of that was on the lower dose.

AgathaMystery · 28/05/2024 14:37

Afternoon all… just wanted to say, I took my meds on holiday, am 4 days in. No one cared about it in security. And I packed my scales too. Managing to maintain so far. No temptation to drink and have had one pudding - I managed half. I would my enjoyment of my holiday has been affected 0% - cocktails, even tart, zesty ones, are unbearable now. Way way too sweet. I am thrilled about this!!

I better order quick then before they change their mind!

hoola23 · 28/05/2024 14:51

Hi all! Literally just paid for my first order after reading through all the messages! Thanks so much to everyone for their opinions and progress reports! Starting at 18 stone and BMI of 41.9! Urgh
Pregnancy/breastfeeding caused my weight to sky rocket and it's literally been impossible to loose anything when I was BF. Strangely, my appetite has reduced a lot in the last week of no BF so perhaps that's related to how hard I've found dieting recently. I've not told anyone I'm doing this yet- not sure why. Maybe fear of yet another failure!
Hopefully I get approved- can't see why not. Is it best to take your shot in the evening or the daytime? I mainly WFH so could manage any symptoms

montysma1 · 28/05/2024 15:09

Med Express
Just to confuse matters.......I went through to check out on my account.
I am not actually ordering yet as they don't seem to have 12.5mg in stock.

I then scrolled back a page to find this cropped up.
Which is still very cheap if correct.

Have messaged to ask when they will have 12.5mg in stock.
. Also attached screen shot and asked if they will honour the prices shown and told them that if they dont, family chemist is much cheaper😅
I am well confused now!
Cracking price if they do honour it

I need help 😅
Got myself in a muddle. So I took my 4th dose of 2.5 today a day early as was feeling I need it. Was planning on using extra dose in it to take to 3.75. but forgot! No needles left but getting 5mg delivery Tomo or next day. I'm away next wk and didn't wanna be sick but can I take another 1.25 when I get it or should I just stick to 2.5 till I'm home? 🙈

I dunno who uses who but Voy were so good today they are posting it a wk early for me and extra needles no charge.
I have a referral for £85 off but dunno how that measures price wise to other companies. If anyone wants to use it's: https://joinvoy.com/r/U-rJzLHt9b4I

That's happened to me before. When I had a coupon code previously saved. Not sure if it keeps it until you check out tho.

@ObsidianTree Bugger!
Dying to try it but dont actually want to order till they have 12.5 in

I wonder if Family Chemist actually have stock or it's back order ........all the pharmacy's seemed to get the 10mg delivered on the same day.

lurkylurk · 28/05/2024 15:53

@WoolyMammoth55

Love your take on this issue

@FlappyFish

Life is about setting and (hopefully!) reaching goals. When we don’t reach them this goals are still there, when we do we need new ones! The weight loss one may have been there for a long time as it’s a tricky one to achieve so you may have always had that goal in mind for a long time and now it’s gone.

The temptation may be to then make a new weight loss goal as that’s where some of the focus has been for a long time so it seems as though if that weight loss goal is gone then you need a new one to fill that space in your attention.

It doesn’t have to be about weight loss though. Maybe take a minute and figure out what you want to achieve next and start working on that?
