Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

That's too long really, the accumulated drug will start leaving your system. most of the online pharmacies recommend no longer then 6 days late so 13 days between doses or you will need to dose down and lose titration progress.

Apparently you can carry the pen in your hand luggage as diabetics do and customs don't even blink. Hold luggage can get too cold. Just take the box with the prescription on it.

Can you time it so you take the a pen with only a single dose? That way if it's lost you don't lose the cost of a whole pen?

Yes that’s what I thought. I think I’ll have to take it in my hand luggage.

I'm on holiday now. I decided not to take my pen. It will be I think 8 day gap between doses. I'm only a day late at moment but still eating less for sure. I will report back when I return what the damage is and how the appetite suppression is.

I got the gap wrong. What I mean is, my last dose run out yesterday. The next dose I take will be next Sunday. So 8 days late. Hope that's clear!

@Femeia the 10mg has been available a while. I already have one in my fridge although i do begrudge the cost of it 😄.

Medexpress emailed me about going up to 10mg when I ordered my 7.5mg over a month ago, despite then not even having stock. They never sent me another email about it so they don't seem on the ball at all with promoting it to customers.

I'm on 7.5mg now and still not having much appetite suppression. I hope you fare better. It does make me wonder to some extent if I'm wasting my money.

Don't be discouraged. The dosage goes up to 15mg for a reason. In the studies lots of people didn't lose weight significantly until they were on 10mg + doses.

This is a useful reminder

Morning all. Everyone is on holiday at the moment. I'm very jealous, but to be fair I'd probably ruin the diet, so it's probably a good thing.

I'm taking second 7.5mg in a bit. It's due tonight, but takes longer to work on me now and want to feel the effects tomorrow morning. This is the first time since my first 2.5 I haven't gone a day or two early, as I find the effects fade very quickly from day 5.

Weightloss hasn't been great this week though, but I am on the other side of ovulation. Probably half a pound down if I had to put a confident number on it. I'm not sure as I never really remember when I weight myself. I just bung a weight into NC if it sticks for a couple of days. I have half a stone to go now, so it's going to be the hardest lbs to lose. I'd be happy with 4lbs even.

Nobody in my family has noticed that I've lost over 20lbs! I definitely see it though, but haven't really dropped a size yet. Just the bulges over waistbands etc have gone and clothes are loose, but I can still wear them just about with a belt. Maybe I was too hopeful expecting a body of a 19 year old to emerge under my 42 year old flab! 😂

Wonkypictureframe · 26/05/2024 09:38

The holidays sound fab! I am going to jab as usual when I go on holiday as I want to spend time enjoying the other stuff aside from food. I’ve been thinking about it for a while as I’ll clearly still be injecting in August.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking. If I don’t take the pen with me I’ll be stressing about effects wearing off and eating too much/falling off the wagon etc. I think I’ll have a more relaxing holiday if I take it with me and inject as normal.

montysma1 · 26/05/2024 09:43

Aaaaaaargh! I should have hit target by now but my body just won't shift that last sodding couple of pounds!
Finally got a pound off this morning but I usually lose about 3lb a week.
It's mental torture!
My body is toying with me!

Happy new thread! And fine deputising @FlappyFish

I'm 6 weeks in, slowly titrating up with my 5mg pen so did 3.5mg this week - getting the odd touch of nausea so glad didn't go straight to 5mg. 1 stone 1.25lbs down

Hi, how many click for 3.5 please? I’m about to inject and I don’t to go to 5mg as we’re staying with family tonight and I don’t want to be unwell! But I’ve already delayed a day and I’m starving so I need to get it done x

lurkylurk · 26/05/2024 09:53

@LifeisHard73

60 is a full dose so would be 42 for 3.5.

Those who have been/are going on holiday, did you or are you planning to take your pens with you on a plane? And if so, what are the logistics for it?
Im on holiday this week in the U.K, then have 2 weeks abroad in July and want to plan for it as much as possible.

I took my pen in my hand luggage, in the fluids plastic bag. I also put the needles into hand luggage. No one batted an eyelid

sweetpickle2 · 26/05/2024 10:11

Have been away this weekend so lots of eating out etc- I haven’t restricted myself but find myself ordering far more sensibly than I normally would, salads and protein over pizza and stuff that would normally be my go to.

Not expecting a loss this week as even with sensible choices I’ve been eating far more than I have the last few weeks- but I’m really pleased that the MJ seems to make my brain want to consider healthier choices when I’m out and about. This is the sort of stuff that will make it a long term change I think!

Baldatbirth · 26/05/2024 10:12

Any 'cures' for diahorreah? I had a takeaway pizza on Friday evening (only ate half so about 4.5 inches) and had a date night last night where I drank two glasses of wine (the first drink I had consumed in 8-10 weeks)

I am paying for it this morning and feel so ill. Mainly diahorreah. I am hoping someone can give me some wisdom so I can nip to Dunelm later.

Interesting- I've not started 7.5mg and was really hoping this would be the one to work. I was debating whether to see how it goes before going up to 10mg but it sounds like I might need to (given my lack of sensitivity to the drug so far and your experience)

Exitstrategist · 26/05/2024 10:14

18 pounds lost in 12 weeks. Just dipped under 11 stone and into healthy BMI. Couldn’t be happier.

Wonkypictureframe · 26/05/2024 10:17

Yay! Well done.

I make very healthy choices now. Mostly. Yesterday I ate a mini chocolate bar for breakfast. But I do keep thinking in a vacuum that I fancy a nice pizza and then in reality I couldn’t begin to eat one. I need to stop the fancying side of me getting loud when I don’t have the jab to protect me. I love healthy food so the crap stuff is all emotional.

Femeia · 26/05/2024 10:29

I've just ordered the 10mg from Bolt, £189. As that was where I did my last order I did not have to fill in anything more other than my weight and any additional medication taken since the last prescription. Painless, so I just went ahead rather than shop around.

livingwithpmdd · 26/05/2024 10:29

@Youdontevengohere I also took mine in the plastic liquids bag in my hand luggage no issues at all. I did take my box with the prescription on just incase. The only thing I'd mention is it's not supposed to go over 30 degrees so if you're going somewhere hot you might need access to a fridge to store it in.

Fantastic well done. What are your maintenance plans are you going to stay on a low dose?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 26/05/2024 11:10

@MrsFrisbyMouse thanks but I've lost 3st so don't have a problem with the weight loss, just concerned that I'm actually doing most of it through willpower and wasting the money on MJ when it might not be doing that much for me anymore. It used to stop me snacking but in the last few weeks I'm frequently snacking again (no healthy choices).

I've been ravenous the last few days and despite not usually having breakfast, I can't stop eating today. A few people have mentioned here that they have issues around ovulation, so that could be the reason. I've also hit 20% body weight loss and someone posted a link recently that said that is the point where your body starts to fight the weight loss 😕

@Femeia I was hoping to stay on 7.5mg or 10mg for a while too as didn't really want to go up to the 2 highest doses.

3wDavid · 26/05/2024 11:36

so this may be a daft question but has anyone here stayed on the 2.5 dose longer than the first four weeks? I guess for people who have had good results within that very first month on 2.5, what’s the drive to move up to 5? Sorry if this is idiotic but I didn’t know the answer so thought I’d ask!
