Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I’ve been fat all my life. Just for balance! Probably a lifetime of dieting has utterly finished off whatever my body chemistry started.

What never gets covered in that sort of thread is the reality of how it feels to only be able to lose weight by punitive eating. When you are surrounded by people able to eat those ‘balanced diets - 80/20 - a little of what you fancy’ and you know that actually if you go away for a weekend with a group of mates and actually eat, you know, normally, you might gain back everything you’ve lost in the last two months. Our society historically uses feasting to celebrate - never mind UPFs, just a normal ‘nice’ meal will be more calories than my body can tolerate. So we have some people telling us not to worry, just enjoy it, who cares what you weigh, and other people telling us that making good choices is the route to thinness and never acknowledging how many choices we have to make.

Posh Spice gets crap for her watermelon birthday cake, and it’s not the route I ever see myself on, but for some people it’s either more or less opt out of a normal food life or stay fat. How fucking miserable is that?

Soukmyfalafel · 22/05/2024 13:55

@Investinmyself I think the thing I noticed the most when I realised it wasn't just cals in cals out was that when I was younger I'd gain on my arse and thighs, but I just suddenly gained pretty rapidly in my abdomen. I never gained weight there before the way I did in my 40s. On my arms, shoulders and back too. There was definitely some kind of change.

FlappyFish · 22/05/2024 14:28

@CiderJabs mine was still 90% frozen. I also had 4 needles popped into a smaller box.

pinktransit · 22/05/2024 14:56

Jeez I'm hungry today!

I've had breakfast (high protein yogurt, grapes, granola) quite early for me.
And then an earlyish lunch - (wholemeal wrap, lean beef, salad, light mayo)
Normally that would have done me, but I'd have eaten much later - brunch at around 11 ish, and lunch at around 3 or 4.

Jab day tomorrow, I'm thinking of going for a stomach jab rather than thigh, just to see what (if any) the difference is.
For now, I'm drinking a ton of water, watching the rain, and planning on snacking on a protein dessert thing from Aldi later on.
And I've stalled all of this week, so sulking.

BlackFriYay · 22/05/2024 15:54

Ghilliedu · 22/05/2024 13:27

I definitely notice a difference when I inject into my belly. I get stronger suppression than the times I’ve done it in my thigh. I also chose thigh this time as I’m titrating up and I’m hoping I won’t have a repeat of my vomiting episode. Once I get up to 5 without issue I’ll go back to tummy (if I’m brave enough!)

I'll second this.

I reverted back to my thigh after weeks of only using my stomach and I definitely feel more hungry this week. Back to the stomach I go.__

guestusername · 22/05/2024 16:06

I did dose 7 into my right thigh last night. All bar one have gone into my right thigh. My first one went into my belly but I felt so ill for those first couple of days that I don’t want to deal with that again!

What I’ve noticed today is that I’ve not enjoyed drinking tea at all, and I am a tea monster. I’ve also got to 4pm and not eaten anything yet. I will do so shortly but I’m off on my hols tomorrow so hope complete food aversion isn’t going to last for too long!

I’m considering going straight back to my tummy too. I was going to stick with thigh to make sure I wasn’t sick again but honestly this week I have barely felt any suppression after injecting in my thigh. I don’t mind having hunger so I can retrain my brain - but this is constant!

WannabeHealthier · 22/05/2024 16:17

That thread on AIBU is pissing me right off. I don’t eat junk food and processed foods very much, I have always had a really healthy diet, cooking fresh foods. I don’t recognise what people are claiming … I don’t need psychological help.

I just need to consistently eat fewer calories and keep the hunger at bay. Then I can maintain my weight loss. I have PCOS and since having children in the last decade my weight has very slowly crept up. I have dieted for most of my adult life and it doesn’t work.

It's an unwelcome change when you're used to a nice degree of suppression isn't it?

I remember my thigh being the first place I injected when I started 10 weeks ago. For the first week I was wondering where this magical suppression was that everybody speaks of.

I don't know why I even went back to the thigh this week to be honest, beyond thinking I'd change it up a bit.

The stomach does tend to come with a smidgen more side effects in my experience but I'll take the 24 hours of feeling a bit meh if it keeps me nicely suppressed and sticking to my 1200 cals.

You have my complete sympathy because I am eyeing up the kids snack cupboard as I type 😬

RagzRebooted · 22/05/2024 16:59

If only it was as easy as they're making it out to be. Sure, just eat less!
I was a slightly chubby child, chunky teen (13 stone age 16) and struggled with my weight ever since. I have a huge food drive, if there is food around then I'll be thinking about it, whether I'm hungry or not. Huge FOMO if I don't eat everything I have a chance to. I think it's partly a childhood with food scarcity and poverty so any chance at nice food, I'd gorge. I was the kid looking forward to school dinners! Also, my Mum was bulaemic before she had me and I wonder if that had some kind of epigenetic effect (like how children of parents living through famine are more prone to weight gain).
I've lost weight through calorie counting. I've lost weight through low carb. But it's really, really hard and I have to be in the right mindset and then maintain that motivation and commitment for a year to get the weight off. Which I just don't have the mental capacity for right now.
Long term, yes my approach to food needs to change and my exercise habits too. But that will be so, so much easier to deal with as a slim person!

Mounjaro is a chance to reset, get me where I need to be and give me the space to deal with the rest of it.

You’re so right. I think I’ll go back to tummy next time and just pray for no more vomiting. I want this to work for me and I feel like I’m going to sabotage it this week! I’ve already been in at the crisps!

Hello ladies! Great to see people losing and reaching their mini goals and all the NSV.
Few days ago it was weigh in day for me and lost half kilo which I’m somehow happy about as I was convinced I wasn’t gonna loose at all because when I injected last Monday I felt nothing and was so hungry all through Wednesday when I thought I have to do something, increase my dose (which I really don’t want to do) or maybe inject earlier.
Anyway, I’ve started my third pen and injected on Sunday, it’s my first 5mg pen but I’ve injected 2.5mg counting the 30 clicks, and wow what a difference! Finally I can feel the appetite suppression like in the first weeks, very thirsty, I’m on day 3 and I’m pushing myself to eat more than once a day and even had some lentils yesterday and felt a bit of indigestion, today ate a small portion but again felt like if I eat any more I’m gonna end up with indigestion again.
So weird is the same dose (2.5mg) but feel so different with this new pen.
I think my previous pen expiry date was end of May but I used it from 30th of March until 13th of May when I injected the last dose, so I’m wondering if it was that.

Started MJ 8th March
Height:1.56 Weight:73.50 kilos BMI:30.2 Goal weight: Unsure
All doses 2.5mg
Dose 1 (-4kg / -8.8lbs) = 69.50
Dose 2 (-2kg / -4.4lbs) = 67.50

Dose 3 (-1.10kg / -2.4lbs) = 66.40
Dose 4 (-500gr / -1.10lbs) = 65.90
Dose 5 (-500gr / -1.10lbs) = 65.40
Dose 6 (+850gr / +1.8lbs) = 66.25
Dose 7 (-1.10kg / 2.4lbs) = 65.15
Dose 8 (-600gr / -1.3lbs) = 64.55
Dose 9 (-600gr / -1.3lbs) = 63.95
Dose 10 (-500gr /-1.1lbs) = 63.45
Current bmi 26

Soukmyfalafel · 22/05/2024 13:06

Looking at the thread people are discussing, I think some people genuinely think it melts calories away and we are all gorging on burgers still. They don't understand that it supports reducing the calories you consume and makes eating unhealthy food less appealing. Of course we will want to eat again more normally when we stop, but for many of us the fear of going back is going to stop us gaining too much. Having something change my habits has been an education on eating better, which I hope to continue. I always though exercise and eating your standard sort of meals was enough, but it isn't. I understand calories a lot better and realise exercise isn't really a big factor in weight loss as you age.

Many of us were slim up to a certain menopausal age, but they just assume we've had a lifetime of eating burgers and sitting on our arses. I do just get the impression that some people just want other people to remain fat. I suppose if being thin and acting sanctimonious about it is your identity, I guess it feels like an attack on your confidence and your status if everyone around you starts to lose weight. I had concerns about side effects, but I really felt I was in a situation where my health was getting worse for being overweight, so have decided it was worth the risk.

Edited

So true!
age is defo a factor in putting weight on or menopause as women’s hormones change and meds to balance it often make you gain weight.

personally I think there uneducated eejits who don’t need to form an opinion on anyone else and should closely look at their own future years and I hope they gain masses of weight and then maybe not only will they understand but maybe they’ll be miserable about nothing working til they get here!

pixieslove · 22/05/2024 18:24

@WannabeHealthier

oh my lovely please ignore it all, bad negativity can/may/will damage your mental health, they’re fucktards and have no idea what shit they are chattering on about.
they’re probably stick thin and think it’s how they’ll stay, they won’t so laugh at them and remember how crap they’ll feel about their own lives when they turn to their last option.

I’ve not been on to the thread as I’ve only just started my own journey and I don’t need their negativity or naivety.
in the last 5/6 days I’ve lost 1st 1lb due to being so nauseous, if they think that’s fun they’re mental!
ive finally today been able to eat 1 sizzle steak they’re so thin! And a toddler bowl of strawberries but halfway through I gave them to the dogs, I have also had a slimfast shake and squash (1.5 litres) and about 8 cups of tea.
I still don’t really want to eat, it’s so strange as I can choose to eat or not as I don’t feel hungry.

next jab is Friday and I’m optimistic as it will be the 2.5 mg not the oopsie accidental double dose I did, I may feel much better.
onwards and upwards!

well done to ALL of you lovely people, don’t let the eejits get you down, don’t even reply as they probably feel superior and fantastic knowing they make you feel crap
keep on doing you! xx

AHH great yeah I've been lurking for the last two weeks (alongside Reddit but not nearly as active as this thread 😂)
Something that I have been pondering over. When I collected my first dose - I was a chicken and untrusting of online pharmacies so went for the option of paying an absolute fortune through superdrug - the pharmacist informed me that the expiry date was 05/24 on the box but they had been notified by suppliers that the date had been revised and that the pen was good til 09/24 which I took them at their word. What I'm wondering is will this be the same for the 5s? They didn't go into any details as to why the suppliers have decided that it's actually got a longer date on it than printed? Having used to work in a pharmacy where we were quite stringent with BB dates so when I heard this I couldn't quite figure out in myself as to why? Maybe I'm just really overthinking this 😂
