Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Probably just a money thing, but aren’t we all paying for this? So why would money make a difference if it’s being paid for by us ourselves
or have I missed out and could’ve gone the nhs route and saved my pennies

Theoretically possible but very difficult and long waiting lists. I said NHS because I don't know if they do one standard set of prescribing criteria for NHS and private. So even if we're paying the time limit is still what's acceptable to the NHS for funding. I genuinely don't know how the decision gets made though.

Posted this on the other thread somehow got mixed up not sure why I'm on there

Just to say myprotein have a sample pack of the clear whey so you can taste 10 of the flavours. It helped me narrow down which ones I liked and I've now ordered 3 of the larger tubs. I've gone for orange and mango, tropical dragonfruit as I know these two are my favourite and then also ordered vimto although this wasn't in the sample pack so hope I like it.

It's a great way to get in 20g of protein

I’m fussy with squash my usual is apple and blackcurrant nothing else.
vimto I’ll tolerate though, I had no clue they even existed so that’s awesome protein shakes get boring xx

This tread is getting so busy, taken me all day to catch up again!

5 days without pooping has ended today after doubling my usual magnesium and coffee doses. I'm hoping that will translate on the scales tomorrow and by friday weigh in as this morning I had 0.6lb to get to 13stone exactly and a full stone loss. Ideally i want to lose that and anything more to get into the 12st bracket. Lost 1lb so far this week. I'm due my next jab tomorrow and it will be the bonus 2.5dose plus whatever i need from from 5mg pen to get to 3.75.

Hoping that will be enough for a decent loss this week after only 1lb last week.

Really looking forward to tomorrows jab, is that weird? I have been feeling hungry today, keep looking in the fridge. Luckily mum took me out to our local italian cafe and had a lovely parmigiana with salad which has satisfied me for the moment.

RE Krakow, recommend the salt mines, and the roman museum under the main market square building. The stalls in the central market building are good too.

guestusername · 21/05/2024 16:38

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I thought I saw a weird BMI thing on MedExpress when I ordered. My account is unlocked today so I’ve had a play and came back with (I’m 5ft 7) -

13.13 - BMI 28.8
13.12 - BMI 28.8
13.11 - BMI 28.7
13.10 - BMI 28.8
13.9 - BMI 30.5
13.8 - BMI 30.8
13.7 - BMI 30

I knew I wasn’t seeing things!

sweetpickle2 · 21/05/2024 16:50

Moving over to this thread from the newbies on as about to start my 2nd pen (5mg) this week!

SW 107.8kg
CW 102kg (at end of 2.5mg pen)
GW 90kg

Lots of really interesting stuff on here- have ordered some of the clear whey, thank you to whoever posted about the discount!

montysma1 · 21/05/2024 17:14

@guestusername You should email and ask them. They are quite good at responding.

So even if we're paying the time limit is still what's acceptable to the NHS for funding. I genuinely don't know how the decision gets made though.

I asked my GP this... now, this is all subject to change but currently you need to have:

  • diabetes or pre diabetes
AND
  • hypertension &/or
  • obesity &/0r
  • high cholesterol &/or

So you can't just have it because you got fat (me) & have hypertension (me) & high cholesterol (me).

You also need to have completed the NHS tier 3 weight loss program - this takes a year, I am almost at the end of it. At the end of it the choices are:

  • congrats, you are no longer fat
  • oh sorry, you're still fat, would you like to go for therapy and bariatric surgery?
  • possibly weight loss medication

I am going to ask about prescription MJ once i've completed my year of tier 3. You also can't end your year early & then apply for weight loss meds - that doesn't wash with them at all. I did ask, obvs!

Hope that helps.

Is it doing .9 of a stone instead of 9lbs? So that's why the bmi goes higher when you get to the .9 .8 and .7

.9 of a stone is 12.6lb

imnottoofussed · 21/05/2024 17:47

I think I changed mine to record it in lbs because of that rather than stones

Wonkypictureframe · 21/05/2024 18:07

Yes, that’s it. I accidentally gave myself too low a BMI doing that and switched to kilos. It’s not counting the pounds, it’s counting decimal places.

Aaaaand another thread created to gather hatred against weight loss jabs. Why do people concern themselves with it so much? Makes my blood boil

I've seen some of you commented but I can't be bothered. You can't argue with stupid.

Ignore people like this moaning, they’ve no clue how other people feel about themselves or the reasoning behind the choices people make, it’s ignorant and maybe they should learn some manners
ignore and laugh it off, maybe they can’t afford the treatments? Who knows why people belittle others xx

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 18:40

Update!
I have been feeling so sick and weak being unable to eat the last 5 days, I read through posts on here and had some inspiration plus advice which steered me to try and push through and eat something small, though a toddler meal is tiny and only 200 calories I have now just forced myself to eat 3 quarters of it and will have a slimfast shake to chase it down!

I feel so much better already to everyone telling me to eat thank you!
I hope my appetite will come back before my next jab on Friday.

Still happy to join in and lose with you all
thanks for being so helpful, lovely and welcoming xx

rainbowsandinfinitesparkles · 21/05/2024 19:09

CiderJabs · 21/05/2024 13:42

@pixieslove I believe some pharmacies have confirmed they will prescribe until bmi 23. I'm fairly sure Asda is one of them, not sure on the others.

Asda has abmi cut of 25. There have been quite a few FB posts of people who have hot 25 and been cut off by Asda ☹️

MrsBurtMacklin · 21/05/2024 19:10

@pixieslove You might find it helps to eat high protein food instead of toddler meals. Everything I've seen about people on MJ is that a high protein diet helps with side effects and weight loss in general. I'm not sure how much protein those toddler meals could have.
Are slim fast shakes high protein?

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 19:36

The toddler meal today was just to reintroduce eating in general as that accidental double dose has caused so much nausea I haven’t been eating at all. I’ve managed 2 toddler size bowls of shreddies and 2 slimfast shakes (15g protein each) in 5 days so I had to try something and they seemed an ok tiny option, I forced it and feel so much better for it.

still sick but I didn’t want to risk getting poorly or having it effect weight loss etc. have ordered some clear whey for tomorrow so will swap squash for that alongside whatever I can force down tomorrow and slimfast.

next dose is Friday so I hope the normal 2.5 dose will be a better ride than this week has been

I live in a house of gym men so always lots of protein in, going forward I think I’ll be ok after realising the double dose fiasco (I am so blumming thick!) it serves me right feeling so Ill xx

It’s so shortsighted. People haven’t a clue about regulatory hurdles, just how long it takes to bring a medicine to market. They genuinely believe a drug company whizzed out a product overnight with no care or consequence. I think this development in medicinal care is amazing. Our version of the silver bullet.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 21/05/2024 20:07

A family event today and I had a chocolate brownie and a chocolate chip cookie. So much for appetite suppression! Or having any control over what I'm doing. I also haven't had a chance to do any exercise so far this week so this would have to be a miracle jab if I am to lose weight this week.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 21/05/2024 20:08

I'm so pleased for you @ObsidianTree that you hit your target. Have a lovely holiday.
Some more NSV on here and general positive vibes as well as lots of good tips for the newbies

ThirdStorm · 21/05/2024 20:13

@CiderJabs blood boiling here too. I’m not going to engage with it but it shows what kind of feelings are out there, which reinforces why I’ve kept taking this private.

Cerialkiller · 21/05/2024 20:54

I did read it and i must say for the most part, posts were pretty supportive maybe 70/30? Meh. The OP kept changing her story too, goadys gunna goad.

Asda has abmi cut of 25. There have been quite a few FB posts of people who have hot 25 and been cut off by Asda ☹️

How do they even know you have dropped into a healthy BMI though? I have never been asked to prove my weight beyond photos and they can be exaggerated/tweaked, even if they did ask you to weigh yourself on camera, a big glass of water, any food and even quite thin clothing will add a couple of pounds.

Soukmyfalafel · 21/05/2024 22:10

I think the people who moan about people taking weight loss jabs would also moan about the cost of treating obesity related illnesses as well. I don't understand why they would object to something that helps people lose weight and be healthier. I just think some people can't see the complexity in issues such as addiction, obesity and other illnesses.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 21/05/2024 22:57

I think the obese people on that thread would probably love to take the meds themselves but are too scared to (which is not unreasonable) so to make themselves feel better they rubbish the medication and other people’s choices.

GloriaBunniford · 21/05/2024 22:57

I've finally done it!
Just taken my first dose......
SW 16 stone at 5ft 7 BMI 35
BMI is interesting to me. I've just seen that for a healthy BMI I should weigh between
8 stone 6 to 11 stone 6.
Well I've weighed 11 stone 7 in the past and I looked really, really thin. I lost my bust. Clavicle bones were jutting out. Ribs were showing through skin on chest. Shoulders were all bony. Dress size was 8 - 10. And that was a pound over the upper limit of a healthy BMI.
If I weighed the bottom end of a healthy BMI for my height which is 8 stone 6 then I would honestly look emaciated.
I know I don't have to get to the lower end of my BMI, but I'm just raising the point that I do find BMI interesting.
