Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Also it is a diabetes drug, would they say to someone with diabetes half the things they are saying?

Investinmyself · 21/05/2024 23:33

I have commented on other thread! I suspect we may pick up some more in here as lots seem interested.
I’m not cheating. I’m dieting. I’ve had 2 healthy meals today, got my steps in.
I can’t stress how much better in myself I feel.

Ghilliedu · 21/05/2024 23:40

What’s the other thread? I’d like a nosey at what they’re saying!

@guestusername

I suspect what is happening here is that 13.13 is not 13 stone 13 pounds but 13.13 stone (as in a decimal point so it's .13 of a stone not 13 pounds) which would be 13 stone and 1.82 pounds.

That's why when you put in 13.9 it's a higher BMI as its 13 stone and .9 of a stone which is 13 stone and 12.6 pounds which is a higher BMI.

The form doesn't allow to add stone and pounds only pounds only or stones plus decimal fractions of a stone, so you are better off putting your weight in just pounds, so 13x14=182 + however many pounds over 13 stone you want, for example 13 stone 9 pounds would be 182+9=191, so enter 191 pounds and it will come out right.

lurkylurk · 22/05/2024 01:58

@GloriaBunniford

It can depend on your build and also how much muscle you have, if you have a lot you are going to look a lot skinnier at a higher weight than someone with less muscle and that is perhaps what was happening there.

I'm 5 foot 8.5 and now 14st 6 and that's having lost 9 pounds, up until a few years ago was always around 10 stone 7 (varied between 10st 4 and 10st 10) and looked fine, slim, not skinny at all, still had a bit of tum from big babies, BMI around 22-23. I didn't do a lot of exercise, mostly a bit of hill walking once a week, sometimes more but am fairly strong naturally, so would have had some muscle but not lots.

As I'm tall and on top of that have got a weirdly high waist I still had a bit of muffin top in jeans! Even high waist jeans didn't seem to sit on my waist, or at least didn't stay there and back comes the muffin top.

ViolaPlains · 22/05/2024 06:19

Re the AIBU thread. There's always, always puritanical thinking about obesity - fat people should only be applauded if they start jogging twice a day and eating raw vegetables. People are always very concerned about the way we lose weight but never about how it is put on.

Wonkypictureframe · 22/05/2024 06:46

Interesting that a few posters have actually said straight out that they think losing weight without constant iron willpower is morally wrong. You’d almost think they don’t WANT people to lose weight, wouldn’t you?

Chucklesisters · 22/05/2024 06:50

Hi all, long-time lurker, first time posting on this thread!

i’ve been on Mounjaro for 12 weeks now, half way through 7.5mg. I haven’t been as successful as most posters here - only 5kg down from 95kg (BMI 36). I can’t wait to start 10mg and hopefully kickstart real weight loss! Anyone else on 10mg?

It helps them to feel superior. Because without putting others down, they can't feel good about themselves. It's how the hard of thinking get their self esteem.

MrsBurtMacklin · 22/05/2024 06:56

What makes me laugh about that thread is that they think it's a "quick fix". Just shows the level of knowledge they have on the subject!

I think half of them are just bored and want something to talk about, all the faux concern is a load of tosh.

they are just ignorant. MJ has helped me
find my willpower, which I can now exercise without being overwhelmed by a compulsion to eat.

NextPrimeMinister · 22/05/2024 07:53

Re the thread, there's lots of faux concern regarding the cons or unknown side effects. But I've never seen a thread expressing the same for diabetics.

There's some weird thought processes going on.

Diabetics using medication = good
Medically obese using medication = bad

It does show alot of ignorance.

  1. Its easy to get hold of
  2. You can get it to lose half a stone
  3. It's quick
  4. It's stealing from diabetics
  5. Online pharmacies are dodgy, verging on illegal

At least it confirms my decision not to tell anyone irl.

FlappyFish · 22/05/2024 07:55

@GloriaBunniford I’m so glad you’ve taken the next step and now started.

We’re the same height. I’m also now the 11.7 you mentioned. I started at 14.3. (Or 14.1. I changed between ordering and can’t remember what I put now back at the beginning. 😂 I have been over 16 stone before.

At this weight I’m currently a 12/14. My boobs are very deflated. I have a fair amount of crepeing and sagging.

I agree BMI is interesting. I’m pretty hourglass in shape. I’m early 40’s.

I am not bony though. I can feel my ribs now though. I quite like stroking them at my side. Weirdo I am.

Wonkypictureframe · 22/05/2024 07:59

I think the OP’s concern for the apparent lack of education on the part of posters trying to explain that they have tried JustEatLessAndMoveMore and had no success, and that they don’t ‘stuff’ themselves with UPFs is ironic, given that they have made no effort to learn about the drug, read any of the easily available articles about why eating less and moving more doesn’t work, or in fact any of the information around about the complexities of weight gain and retention; it’s a branch of medicine for a reason.

Anyway, I am another pound down today. My first week on 7.5mg and I have lost 3lbs after four days. My weight loss does seem to be front loaded at the start of doses! And yet I feel great on this dose. Yesterday I had leftover barbecue meat and salad for lunch, and chicken, guacamole and salad for dinner. Both the sort of meals I was eating pre-MJ (no UPFs in sight).

I saw reference yesterday to the fact that insulin resistance starts to reduce at 10mg. I think I will go up next month to see what effect that has but I am close to BMI 26 so feasibly only 2/3 months away from the end of my MJ period. So wondering if I should instead stick at 7.5mg and then go down to 5mg after that.

I do really wish I COULD do this with medical supervision for things like this but ain’t possible. I wish I’d been able to access an endocrinologist years ago to see whether my hormones could be sorted to help me lose weight then, but no referral allowed as my fertility was fine.

I'm halfway through 7.5 also. I've lost 4.5kg and cant wait to start 10mg too.

Wonkypictureframe · 22/05/2024 08:12

I hope so! Fingers crossed.

I’m starting to think about post MJ too. I’ve lost weight and kept it off for long periods before and only started to put it on when life has changed, and as things are pretty stable now (definitely no more babies!) I’m hoping that’s a good omen. BUT I am now in peri and when I started on MJ one trigger was that weight was just piling on and my GP just shrugged and said that was how it went. So my concern is that whatever way of eating I sustain after the jabs finish, my hormones hate me so much that the weight will come piling on regardless.

Soulstirring · 22/05/2024 08:17

Goodness that thread! OP is so ignorant and as a pp said goady. The ignorance is next level…’start a thread I know nothing about’

anyhooo, 3kg off in 16 days. This has changed my approach to eating, I don’t snack and I’m making very good choices. My portion size has reduced. It feels sustainable.

very much enjoying everyone’s success, congratulations

RunningAndSinging · 22/05/2024 08:20

@Chucklesisters and @R4ch402

I am another one part way through 7.5mg having lost 5 kg. I have vomited a few time in the last two days so not sure about going up to the 10mg pen that I have waiting in the fridge. I have my bonus dose for 7.5 to take so I will see how I feel next week. I gained slightly on official weigh in day this week so was thinking I should definitely go up but not enjoying the current abdominal pain and being sick in the night. I had been out for a pub supper last night which was a big part of the problem I guess.

Maybe they don’t realise the cost of treatment to the public purse from nhs obesity treatment?
which would they prefer then as both obese or even anorexic people require nhs care.
why do they care? Is it not our own money we spend on this, and mounjaro has been fully approved for weight loss!

they can have their opinions but trying to make others feel bad for personal choices is a tad disgusting
xx

Yeah do what you think is best, being up all night with abdominal pain is not nice at all. I vomited Monday evening, and I am definitely having more side effects on 7.5mg. I haven't ordered my 10mg yet but still think I will titrate up.

AgathaMystery · 22/05/2024 09:02

Girls I’m nervous. I’ve got my first big challenge tomorrow - going to a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant. It’s been booked for months and we are friends with the owners so I can’t bail. I have no idea how I’m going to manage. Luckily it’s all tiny portions but bloody hell. The snacks at the start are what I eat in a day right now.

Then, on Saturday, I’ve a week on a cruise. The food is so rich. I’m going to have to be so careful or I think I’ll be poorly. I find I need to be in control of what I eat when I take MJ. Anyone else find this?

GloriaBunniford · 22/05/2024 09:04

Thank you @lurkylurkfor the encouragement!
I'm feeling really pleased that I finally took it.
I realise now, reading through, that I posted in the middle of a conversation between posters about another thread that is upsetting people here.....apologies! I didn't even look, I just added my post before going to bed.x

Cerialkiller · 22/05/2024 09:04

OK so just tried my plan of using my bonus dose plus a quarter dose of the 5mg next pen. I've done it but I realised that my pen keep clicking even though its now empty so I don't actually know how much I have taken. I know I took 1.25g from the 5mg pen and i'm fairly sure I took the best part of a full dose from the 2.5 but it could be less or more (i tried to take more with another needle as it looked like there was even more left) i wasn't looking to see if the plunger moved.

I'm sure that I didn't go over 5mg at least. I did it in the thigh too which is a new location for me. Hoping I'm not badly hit. Deliberately moved my dates forward at least so I jab on Wednesdays and can ride out any side effects before the weekend when DH will notice. Wish me luck! I was a bit gung hoe as i've been feeling hungry again and i'm stubbornly sticking at 13.5lbs lost so far.
