Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thank you, I did first injection on Friday about 3pm but have felt super sickly since then which today is day 3 or is it classed as day 4?
i will ride it out and fuel up on whatever I can tolerate for now.
mom drinking plenty of fluids and I’m not actually being sick I just feel sick and the thought of food is just disgusting.

so strange not wanting any food at all how did you all get through the weird feeling of not wanting to eat?
I can’t even describe the feeling but nothing in me tells me I need to eat and no food even looks nice

Just the thought that tomorrow could be ok gives me hope so thank you for your post letsgoogogo xx

@pixieslove

Don’t feel stupid, it’s actually an easy mistake to make, the lines on the pen are confusing, never understood why they don’t have another line for the first dose! Im sure it’s happened before numerous times.

Going straight to 5mg rather than getting your body used to 2.5mg is why you’re filling so ill and averse to food, it’s usually gentler than that but it will pass.

You probably will want to leave it longer between doses anyway to let this one leave your system more as it does have a buildup effect from one dose to the next, when you take it weekly each dose hasn’t fully left your body before the next one. Speak to your prescriber as to what’s best to do.

In the meantime drink water, eat what you can, shakes are often easier than solid food if you’re not feeling good and maybe take some electrolytes as your body will be short on them due to not eating much.

You could have some coconut water as it’s full of electrolytes, has some calories and will keep you hydrated.

lurkylurk · 20/05/2024 20:45

@pixieslove

Scratch that about coconut water having calories, it’s actually pretty low in them! Still good for electrolytes and keeping you hydrated though.

I think another poster said to leave it a bit longer so I will leave this Fridays dose so I can catch up plus give it time to get out of my system, I can’t stomach food currently but ordered a load of slimfast pre made shakes at least having 2 of those a day plus cups of sugarless tea and squash is keeping me going right now.

I have got some toddler meals coming tomorrow the little dish ones, I’ll try and force myself with those.

coconut water fab idea I’ll grab some of those tomorrow as I can’t stand the lucozade still stuff it’s so sweet it turns my face inside out, they’re hard to get through.

I can only but hope you’re right and in a couple weeks it won’t be as bad and fingers crossed this sickly feeling goes away soon.
it hasn’t put me off thankfully so I will continue, I shall be more mindful of the doses and as a previous response pointed out actually my next dose won’t be a completely full dose as the plungers gone slightly over when I double dosed.

the pens markings are so faint and first time using is confusing so I am really annoyed at myself for being so silly but if this is the worst it could get (?) then that’s ok by me.

thank you again for replying I think I need all the help and support I can get as you can tell I’m a full on newbie to any self injectables, and dare I say a total moron 😂
we learn something new every day!

Evening girls…. @pixieslove you poor thing. You’ll have to just ride it out, it will be okay. It’ll peak in 72ish hours - then you’ll have a few days of total suppression I reckon. Like mega mega suppression. I think you’ll be okay.

I had a NSV today - bought a very smart jumpsuit for my holiday this coming weekend & got the 18, too big… got the 16, still massive, got the 14 - too tight - tried it on again tonight & it’s a perfect fit. I cannot believe it! I’ve also tried on my ball gown and it’s too big…!!!

Soukmyfalafel · 20/05/2024 21:20

Checking in as I haven't for a while.

I haven't put on 2lbs like I thought yesterday and am around where I was in the week. I had my 2nd 7.5mg last night and was hungry today, but didn't finish my dinner this eve, which was a smallish portion, so must be working. I have about 8lbs left.

Enjoy your holiday @ObsidianTree! Have a lovely time and hope you get some good weather.

@montysma1 you've done really well. That's a great loss. Did you find your appetite surged after coming off Ozempic? What strategies did you have for maintaining? Was it hard?

I have lost a fair amount of boob. I guess that's the collateral damage you take when losing weight. I do feel much better now though being 22lbs lighter. I thought I'd be happy at the weight am at now and would have been when I started (I was going for 28lbs) but I think I do need to lose these last 8lbs, mainly because I expect to gain some of it back. I'm going for losing a full toddler!

Oh wow agathamystery! Well done!
I can’t wait to be a dress size smaller or 2 lol

Mega suppression? Oh god more than now when I have no appetite already oh god noooo!

its fine, im hoping it just passes now so I can at least eat something, missing a few meals won’t exactly kill me but does anyone/or has anyone else felt completely put off by any/all food?
well i did sign up for this and no one ever said it would be easy! xx

Soukmyfalafel · 20/05/2024 21:23

Oh and congrats on the NSV @AgathaMystery and anyone else who have had losses. There are too many to mention.

@pixieslove that sounds rough. Soup and shakes are the way forward. At least your next dose will feel a walk in the park by comparison.

Bless you. It can be quite baffling when you're new to the medication. I'm on week 10 now and it has only been the past 2 weeks I've felt confident enough to do it by myself without OH overseeing me, as I was worried I'd somehow get it wrong.

Protein shakes are your friend for the times you can't stomach much food. I reccomend the 50g protein ones especially, as it'll give you a decent chunk of what you need in a day.

If you can't stomach any food at all despite trying, then have 2 of the shakes.

Ufit ones are £2 on clubcard in tesco at the minute for the 50g ones I have, but there are loads of brands with similar amounts in them.

If you are worried about overdosing, don't be. In the USA some people actually do start on 5mg, as in, have it perscribed as a starting dose. You'll probably feel a bit shit (like lots of us did when we titrated up to 5mg) but I'm certain you're not in any danger 🙂

pixieslove · 20/05/2024 21:28

@Soukmyfalafel that’s absolutely something to look forward to I didn’t think of that!
I’ll stick to the shakes for now until this nausea goes far away

What’s nsv?
sorry to be thick yet again, I don’t do social media or usually forums but being part of a support group for this is going to be everything!
I sound sooo old right now but I’m not (am I?) I’m 38 that’s oldish maybe, well actually I’m 38 but feel about 98 xx

NotADailyMailJournalist · 20/05/2024 21:29

@rainbowsandinfinitesparkles as far as I know, they will prescribe indefinitely as per the medical guidance that really people need to be on this in some shape or form for life.

pixieslove · 20/05/2024 21:36

@BlackFriYay thank you, yes this house has loads of protein tubs lying around and I have slimfast shakes in the fridge as I just can’t stomach any food not even a Nando’s!

i can’t wait to be at the stage you are, well done.
Will the sticky feeling come back everytime the dose is upped then?

Thank you for that info it does make me feel a little less stupid and thank god it’s used elsewhere as a start dose, though that’s brave! xx

In my experience it does get better.

I sometimes feel a bit blah on day 3 post injection (that's when the medicine peaks in our systems) but other than that I feel absolutely fine all of the time.

Going from 2 to 3.5(ish) with the bonus dose was the hardest part for me as I felt ropey for 24-48 hours, but the jump from 3.5(ish) to 5 was absolutely fine. 🙂

AgathaMystery · 20/05/2024 21:57

I inject on a Friday & can’t tolerate food on Mondays. Today I’ve managed a babybel, a coffee and an ice coffee. I just can’t face anything else.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 20/05/2024 22:31

For those of you who take physillium husk supplements, is it supposed to completely dissolve or just get less grainy (IYKWIM)? I just put a teaspoon in a 250ml glass of water and, after stirring it for a bit, it went less grainy so I drank that glass and then filled the glass up again and that got the bits which had been caught at the side. I'll now be going for a pee at about 1am!
I'm wondering if I can combine taking this with my collagen and just have one fairly unpalatable drink each day

MounjaroNewbie · 20/05/2024 23:40

Has anyone any discount codes?

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 20/05/2024 23:58

I have a new found respect for all of those of you who have used the hard twist method to get the extra dose. I started off twisting and it was really easy for the first few clicks. And then it stopped. And it would not move, however hard I tried. At which point, I abandoned that plan and extracted the remaining dose with an insulin needle. I extracted 0.7ml so used all of that as that is a very gradual increase, taking me to about 2.9mg. I might go for 4mg next week or even 3.75 and only go up after that.
In terms of codes, @MounjaroNewbie CONSULT BLOOM is still working I think for MedExpress. If you're brand new, there may be better offers now.

lurkylurk · 21/05/2024 00:11

@MounjaroNewbie

It's CONSULT-BLOOM (with the dash in there) for MedExpress, gives 15% off.

@pixieslove

NSV means Non Scale Victory.

So something that's not just weight based like being able to take off or put on a ring that you couldn't, going down a belt notch, someone noticing your weight loss, going down a size in clothes, going to an all you can eat buffet and not eating that much and being satisfied with it, cheekbones emerging, feeling more confident, that kind of thing.

Morning all,

I took the first dose on Saturday morning.

I seem to have suffered multiple side effects since - severe bloating and nausea to the point where I have managed to only consume about 800 cals a day since.

I woke during Saturday night and was sick (I'm never usually sick)

I am struggling to sleep because I feel so poorly which is unsustainable (obvs) but also because I have a very active and demanding job.

Not sure why I'm posting but hoping this will improve or I won't be able to continue.

Has anyone had this experience?

Have a great holiday ObsidianTree!

So I had dose 1 last Tuesday and then went a bit awol from the thread sorry!. Woken up almost hungry today for only the 2nd time (felt bit peckish Saturday morning) Not really had any side effects other than only eating much smaller portions & really not constantly thinking about food.

Hopped on the scales this morning thinking maybe I'd lost a little as ive definitely been consuming less and pleasantly surprised to see ibe lost 7lbs this week and 1% body fat!
Would have whooped very loudly but as I've not told anyone I'm trying this thought I'd better not.

I'm mindful that that much of that will be water weight and the losses will likely slow down but I'm very happy today!
