Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ObsidianTree Yay!

@MelissaLouRocks Was wondering yesterday where you were, good to see you!

Bless you, had another couple of rough days so have been trying to keep busy to occupy my mind a little.

I'm off to Krakow a week Friday, so crossing my fingers and everything else that my infection behaves! It's the first break I've had in 8 years so here's hoping. 🤞🤞🤞

RagzRebooted · 21/05/2024 07:42

@ObsidianTree congratulations on getting under 14 in time for your holiday, have a fabulous time.

Wonkypictureframe · 21/05/2024 07:47

@funmamamoo poor you. A small number of posters have had strong side effects like you. I think it’s gone away for all those who carried on posting. I don’t know if the MJ beginners thread is still going but it might be worth checking in on there to see if anyone is currently going through it.

@ObsidianTree hurray! Enjoy your holidays. Love the nails.

ThirdStorm · 21/05/2024 07:51

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa I take mine in capsules, just swallow and go!

R4ch402 · 21/05/2024 07:56

Congrats @ObsidianTree and enjoy your holiday! I really want to go to Sri Lanka so I may be bothering you for recommendations when youre back haha

BlackFriYay · 20/05/2024 21:47

In my experience it does get better.

I sometimes feel a bit blah on day 3 post injection (that's when the medicine peaks in our systems) but other than that I feel absolutely fine all of the time.

Going from 2 to 3.5(ish) with the bonus dose was the hardest part for me as I felt ropey for 24-48 hours, but the jump from 3.5(ish) to 5 was absolutely fine. 🙂

@BlackFriYay

I hope it will be the same for me too, I’m going to miss this Fridays dose and try and get back to having the normal 2.5 dose instead of what my thick self did!

I think I’ll worry going up the doses, I’m sure everyone worries they’ll feel sick etc

onwards and upwards! Xx

Fingers crossed for you 🙏

Wonkypictureframe · 21/05/2024 08:03

To reassure, I felt quite grim going up to 5mg but have had no ill effects at all on 7.5mg. In fact I feel better than I did throughout 5mg, when I had some nausea first thing most days. I’ve just had a mini whoosh - 2lbs off after a fortnight circling around the same weight with a blip up after a weekend away. I am now close to BMI 26 which blows my mind

livingwithpmdd · 21/05/2024 08:04

Hope you have a lovely holiday @ObsidianTree and congratulations on the 13 stone bracket!

Congratulations on all the loses!

I'm on week 6 and took my second 3.75mg dose last night, been titrating up slowly after hearing others talk about the jump to 5. I swapped injection site to back of arm (had been doing the thigh due to fear of side effects) and have woken up to a woosh- 1kg/2lbs off overnight! That's 5kg/11lbs in 6 weeks which I'm so happy about.

Thank you everyone for creating such a supportive community, I don't post often but it's so great having the threads to catch up on.

@MounjaroNewbie

It's CONSULT-BLOOM (with the dash in there) for MedExpress, gives 15% off.

@pixieslove

NSV means Non Scale Victory.

So something that's not just weight based like being able to take off or put on a ring that you couldn't, going down a belt notch, someone noticing your weight loss, going down a size in clothes, going to an all you can eat buffet and not eating that much and being satisfied with it, cheekbones emerging, feeling more confident, that kind of thing.

Thank you @lurkylurk

jeez so much for me to learn now, I don’t get half the abbreviations people use it goes over my head 😆 ohhhh I can’t wait for this myself!

I think the weight I’ve lost so far is either water weight or muscle loss as I can’t tolerate food, hopefully I’ll be able to stomach the toddler meals I’ve ordered.

for everyone who feels sick as you go up doses, how do you get past it and does it go away soon after? I can’t keep feeling sick and not eating all the way through.
yes weight loss is the goal but not the way this has been for me so far. xx

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 08:17

funmamamoo · 21/05/2024 06:16

Morning all,

I took the first dose on Saturday morning.

I seem to have suffered multiple side effects since - severe bloating and nausea to the point where I have managed to only consume about 800 cals a day since.

I woke during Saturday night and was sick (I'm never usually sick)

I am struggling to sleep because I feel so poorly which is unsustainable (obvs) but also because I have a very active and demanding job.

Not sure why I'm posting but hoping this will improve or I won't be able to continue.

Has anyone had this experience?

funmamamoo
I took my first on Friday afternoon so you aren’t alone, the nausea for myself has been so so bad I’ve managed 2 toddler bowls of shreddies with skimmed milk and 2 slimfast shakes since then and today is Tuesday so that’s nowhere near enough calories at just 800 calories in 4-5 days.

drink lots, I have no tips as I’m so new myself, no sickness for me just absolutely zero interest in food. I have toddler meals coming today and will have to try and force myself to eat 1 as I feel so weak at this point!
I must say though that I did accidentally double dose on Friday as I had no clue there’s 5 doses in each pen and thought I hadn’t injected anything!

i hope your sickness and nausea pass, keep us updated and I shall do the same for anyone new (hopefully they aren’t as thick as me and have a single dose!)

im so glad to have found this group of lovelies I think the journey will be better being able to have the support and knowledge of those who have already done this part of their journey xx

Thank you! Just the usual tourist things really, but we're there for 6 nights so will have plenty of time without rushing.

I'll let you know what's good when I'm back. 😊

chesterlestreet · 21/05/2024 09:09

@pixieslove if you can't even face a shake, CLEAR whey fruit flavoured protein from My Protein is an alternative for 20g protein per serving and apparently tastes like squash. It is 55% off today with code IMPACT. I ordered for the first time today as struggling with eating on day 2/3 each week. I used a referral code from someone on this thread (or an earlier one) for an extra £10 off for each of us. Scroll back through to find it or here is mine www.myprotein.com/referrals.list?applyCode=HELEN-RG36

GlueNoGlue · 21/05/2024 09:21

NSV for me! Went shopping yesterday and tried on a size down from usual it was too big!!! So I’m sat here in my new dress, two sizes smaller than I was two month ago! Also got some trousers, also two sizes smaller than I usually am! This is my new favourite dress!

Thank you so so much!
that would be amazing I am tolerating squash so a protein squash?! I didn’t even know that was a thing, on it immediately thank you for the code
What dose are you currently on?
it seems day 3 may be the passing point to being ok after that day.
i hope so, im waiting to start feeling a little hungry but still nothing for me, not even peckish and the thought of all food makes me feel sick.
I can’t even cook for my brood as I feel so sickly, so I think you may have just saved me with this! thank you again xx

lurkylurk · 21/05/2024 09:47

@pixieslove

The clear protein drinks are a great idea for you, I like them and they are like drinking squash.

Don’t worry too much about going up in doses in future, it is sometimes a little rough but nothing like going from zero to 5mg! You could always do it more gradually by counting clicks on the pen for an in between dose if you wanted to anyway.

montysma1 · 21/05/2024 09:53

@pixieslove sorry can't get rid of this tag...was going to say you haven't really lost a dose of you invest in insulin needles and extract the famous "bonus dose".
@Soukmyfalafel Coming off Ozempic I think that the effects lasted a couple of weeks. It hangs about your body more than you think.
I never tried high doses of Ozempic as that was in the days before it was repackaged as Wegovy for weight loss. The highest dose you could get was 1mg.
Over the 6months between Ozempic and MJ I did eat quite badly but I was really demotivated and pissed off as I was interrupted in my progress, as suddenly I couldn't get it.
I actually bought Rybelsus to try ( the tablet form). But it was giant horse pills and the taste was VILE. Didn't really work either although it was a starter dose. I didn't even finish them.

Over the 6months I did only gain 6lb which I was pleased with. However I was training like psychopath as I got into the habit on Ozempic and just kept it going. Think that helped mitigate.
When I come off MJ, it will be when I have arrived at where I want to be, so I hope that will motivate me to maintain.
I have identified supper time as my downfall. Pre MJ I could be strict all day, and seriously eat a whole day of calories near bed time😳. That's what I really notice now. I still have a wee something with a cup of tea , but it's a handful of grapes. Not 5 slices of toasted cheese and 3 biscuits!

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 09:56

@lurkylurk

my next dose (next Friday not this Friday!) won’t be a complete dose as someone pointed out yesterday I’d actually gone slightly over the 5mg!
how blumming stupid can I be?!
very!
so the next dose won’t be a full 2.5 anyhow.
ive gone onto order it but its being silly and won’t let me register an account, really like the idea of vimto flavour, hope its nice!

how many clicks would it be? You’ve just reminded me to call prescriber, do I call them and tell them I’ve been a complete numpty or will they tell me I’m far to stupid to be allowed Mounjaro again, feel such an ass about this xx

QuiltedHippo · 21/05/2024 10:19

@pixieslove someone smarter than me might correct me, but i think you'll still get your full dose if you're winding from 0 to 1. I'd might sure you prime correctly beforehand. There's extra in the pens to allow for priming which is why you can get the extra bonus dose so you should be fine I think (minus the extra dose you took!)

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 10:25

I have spoken to prescriber and thankfully they added a note to my file to explain what I had done with double dosing, as I will have to order a week early.
so I’m glad they accepted how I had made the mistake, they talked through it all with me and made me feel better about being stupid so I feel in a better place after that.

they insisted on me taking this Fridays dose as normal and continue every week as normal, and they gave me hope that now the normal dose won’t feel anywhere near as bad as I feel currently with the nausea! Yay xx

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 10:27

Thank you @QuiltedHippo I hope so as I don’t really want to skip a complete week and rush to the 5mg sooner, I was planning on taking my time and letting my body adjust to the medication over the weeks
so it would be awesome if I could still have that dose available to not miss a week xx

pixieslove · 21/05/2024 10:36

@montysma1 ohhhh I may have to invest, is there any specifics?
how do I do it?

just read your whole reply then and I feel the pain, I don’t usually eat all day at all then come 6-7pm I don’t seem to stop until I’m asleep what’s that all about?! That’s the thing I want to stop happening as that’s the weight gain well plus a hysterectomy at 33 I guess tact didn’t help me lol xx

YouAreEffluentKim · 21/05/2024 10:43

Hi all, I've been lurking but not posting but thought I'd update.

I started on 6 March and will be taking my 12th injection tomorrow. I did 5 weeks of 2.5mg and tomorrow will be my 7th 5mg injection with 3 remaining. I've been taking the 5th dose as a 5th dose rather than doubling up. I've lost 10kg/22lb which is good for me given my age, height and the terrible damage I've inflicted on my metabolic health over the years due to yo-yo dieting

I just ordered the step up pack from Bolt which is 1 x 7.5mg pen and 1 x 10mg pen for £359. I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere but I'm thinking about ordering a 7.5mg pen separately from somewhere like Med Express as I doubt I'll just do the 5 weeks on 7.5 before moving up to 10, and not sure if Bolt would let me order another 7.5 from them.

I have been thinking about stockpiling as I know for sure that I will struggle if I'm cut off abruptly when I get to a healthy BMI (though I'm still 15kg from goal). For those that are, how are you deciding which dose pens to stockpile? And are you buying from multiple suppliers or just re-ordering earlier than necessary?

I'm really enjoying following everyone's journeys. @ObsidianTree have a wonderful holiday!

Thanks all 😊 on the way to the airport now 😀 will try not to undo my 13st 13lbs! I didn't pack my scales to check.

Bon voyage!!

AgathaMystery · 21/05/2024 10:44

Morning all… going for a new bra fitting today (!!) currently wearing 36FF and am very uncomfortable. Wonder where I’ll end up. Following up with a PEX and bikini wax. The luxury 😂

also, the scales moved again this morning. I think I might say goodbye to being in the 80kg range this week. Please god. Or whomever (whoever?!).
