Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I'd better have lost after this stay! Infection quite bad, I feel shocking and can't eat at all. In a side room, so no patient antics to entertain me and bored silly.

Probably in 'til Monday, I'd better be a size 10 when I get out. 😂

Hope you get better soon.

Glad you got your own room this time and hope you can get some sleep at least

Do you do any weight training Obsidian? When I had a rubbish loss last week (half a lb) I did a 40 minute gym session focusing on weights and dropped another 2lb by the next day.

Possibly a coincidence but I have read that strength training helps.

FlappyFish · 04/05/2024 07:47

@Beyondbeliefsometimes you can inject today. It will take time to build up.

MrsBurtMacklin · 04/05/2024 08:02

What's the % where you stall @ObsidianTree ? Congrats on your loss though, almost 3st is amazing.

I took my 2nd 5mg last night and so far I'm feeling a bit better than I did last week when I took my first. I've had to get used to a whole new way of eating on 5, I've found. Portions are even smaller than when I was on 2.5, and I have to be more careful of spicy foods. I've also gone off things like coffee - I struggle to finish my morning coffee now.

Does anyone suddenly get an "ick" when eating when on MJ? I've also realised that if I think I'm starting to get the ick, I have to stop eating immediately. Pressing on and finishing anyway just for the protein or something means I will feel nauseous for ages after.

If this level of appetite suppression continues, I'll prob do 5mg for another month.

I don't have a gym membership. I kind of want to get one, but in the past when I've had one I go a few times then don't go again! So worried about getting one just incase I dont go and waste the money!

I am starting to feel more energetic though, so maybe I should bite the bullet and sign up for one.

I know I haven't been drinking enough or eating enough protein recently. Which might have contributed. Been going into the office more and I am crap at planning my lunch etc. So need to get better at that and start making salads for lunch and take a portable blender to make my protein shakes, instead of just buying a pepperami to keep me going! Also remembering to drink water at work! So I know there are things I'm not doing quite right at the moment that I need to fix.

@MrsBurtMacklin, I can't remember. Someone mentioned it on here a while ago but can't remember which thread to look at! Lol! I just remember at the time calculating what the percentage was for my start weight to see when my stall might be and it was about 14st 5/6lbs. I remember thinking at the time.... I hope not!

@ObsidianTree I got myself a Stanley cup for work. Its been a game changer because I know I've had at least half my water for the day as it holds just over a litre. I find the straw makes it easier to drink too. There are lots of much cheaper alternatives around as the Stanley in my opinion is overpriced (and has a tendancy to leak when carrying it to work) but its definitely helping me increase my water intake x

FlappyFish · 04/05/2024 08:39

Thought it would amuse folks that I finally got some period gain and this does demonstrate our bodies are funny things. I’m mainly posting because you’ve seen my posts on stalls and periods and now ignoring these gains. I also ate bread. Shock horror, eh? Day 4 of period.

Overnight I have gone from 11.11 to 12.1

Yesterday I ate.

2 slices thickwholemeal bread
400g sliced chicken
2 slices ham.
one skinless chicken thigh
2 dr Karg seeded crackers
two squirts mayo light
2 tablespoons branston pickle
200g raspberry

Normally I eat salad and not the bread. More than I’ve eaten in a day for a long time.

I am laughing at the scales instead of crying. A few weeks back I would have been distraught. Now. Whatever. It will go back down. And I’m posting a food list for once for that very reason to show the daftness of my body.

have a good weekend all!

My lovely daughter has been very supportive and is the only person who knows I'm on MJ. She bought me a Ninja Blast so I can bring it into hospital with me, it's a portable, rechargeable blender. I've been very impressed with mine.

Also on Ninja's site you can get a discount if you're either a student, key worker, over 55, or a young professional aged 18 - 25.

My stall, or at least real slowness, started around 1 stone 10 to 2 stone.

Lol I have way too many things from ninja! Don't tempt me 😂

I actually have a portable blender. I just need to take it to work, so will do that!

Lol @FlappyFish it's probably the carbs if you haven't eaten any for a while. It adds a ton of water weight as soon as you eat them again!

Baldatbirth · 04/05/2024 09:08

Bit of a an odd one again.

I have finally had a loss! But it's 3 whole pounds. I noticed if I lean forward to look at the scale my weight increases. So I am having that 3 pounds. Half way through first week on 5! Clothes feel later and my chin is more sculptured (and Jimmy nailesque) then before

I really wanted to start running again and being more active but I have hurt my back and have sciatica pain through my leg. Was hoping it would subside by now. Weirdly, whenever I have lost weight I have had lower back pain. I'm wondering if anyone else is the same?

Well done to everyone on the weight loss and thanks to those who commented on my previous post. I think the not fancying much to eat is something I have to get used to.

ObsidianTree · 04/05/2024 09:08

But to be fair, 2 slices of bread usually wouldn't cause that much water weight!

Our bodies are crazy!

Quick check, I took my bonus dose today which equated to 3.5mg. I've got a weird side effect though - my lips and tongue are tingling. There's no swelling. It's quite unpleasant. Has anyone else experienced this?

I would watch that as I think it's a sign of allergic reaction.

But also it might be dry mouth.

I had that response with my first ever covid vaccine and it was super scary.

If it isn't gone by morning I would 111 it.
But I would also spend the rest of the week googling in fear of my next dose

Second this. I got a Stanley ice flow tumbler. They hold a bit less than the cup, but don't leak and still use a straw. I put a clear whey shake in it in the morning, made with water, and I top it up with more water. Helps me hit water and protein goals at once. I drink that at work all day and then when I get home, I fill it up again with water and make sure I drink it all before bed. I just carry it around with me. So that's about 2 liters. Then I fill it up again, or just use the Stanley cup, and drink water while reading in bed, or through out the night. I deffo wake up thirsty and needing to pee (thanks Mounjaro!) so do drink probably about 250ml during the night too.

When I try to drink without a straw, I just can't manage as much! I don't know what about the straw makes it easier to drink loads, it just does.

ObsidianTree · 04/05/2024 09:16

Thanks @DDisnotnormal and @MrsBurtMacklin I will look at getting a big drinking cup 😊

Morning all, I haven't posted for ages but thought I'd update.
Today marks 5 weeks since my first injection. I've started at 14.13 and am now 14.4, so that's a 9lb loss for me. Not as much as many, but it's a loss,
Weight loss has absolutely slowed, but I'm starting to see how my cycle affects me. I first hit 14.4 on 21/4, before bouncing between 14.5 and 14.8 for a while. I'm on my period now so I should lose a bit more before bouncing up again,
Desperate to lose 1 more pound as that will take my weight to below 200lb, which will be a nice psychological boost.
I'm on 5mg and fortunately the side effects have been very manageable.

guestusername · 04/05/2024 09:28

I bought a couple of nice bottles in Aldi for £3.99. They hold a litre. They don’t have straws though. What they do have is a lid that clicks in place when you open it so you aren’t fighting with it when you drink from it. You can tell this has been an issue 😂

I had rice last night and I’m showing as half a pound up this morning. I know it’s water weight but 😤 my portion of rice was less than a third of what I’d usually have too so who knows what the damage would have been?

WannabeHealthier · 04/05/2024 09:33

Week 10 weigh in for me today and I’ve lost a total of 27 lbs - just 1 more pound to go before I hit the 2 stone milestone!

I’m starting on 7.5lb next week so will be interesting to see if my weight loss speeds up or remains at the same rate.

SW 16.9
CW 14.10
GW 12 (possibly 11.5)

For context I’m quite tall at 5’10”

My BMI has reduced from 33.4 to 29.5, I’m so pleased!

FlappyFish · 04/05/2024 07:47

@Beyondbeliefsometimes you can inject today. It will take time to build up.

Thanks FlappyFish, I will do it later today and then do weigh in stats tomorrow for my first week. I weigh every day and it was going down steadily for the first 3 days and then jumped up 3 lbs which I'm putting down mostly to a soy sauce heavy dinner and possibly holding onto water. My DH also jumped 4lb that evening.

Wonkypictureframe · 04/05/2024 09:59

Weighed this morning and I’m 12.02! My body really does not want to hit the 11s it seems.
