Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@OneTipsyBlueBiscuit

I'm 5 3, and I have to lose a stone per dress size.

I was a very large 16 (18?) at 13.12, and now I'm fitting in a 14 since 12.07

At 11 stone I fit a 12, 10 stone = size 10.

Thank you that’s really helpful. I was a 16 at 13.2 and I’m now 12.5ish. Still wearing a 16 but clothes are loose on me now. It seems obvious try a smaller size but my head can’t get round the fact it’s only been a month where previous weight loss attempts it’s been weeks and weeks before I have fit into smaller clothes.

MelissaLouRocks · 03/05/2024 19:49

I'd better have lost after this stay! Infection quite bad, I feel shocking and can't eat at all. In a side room, so no patient antics to entertain me and bored silly.

Probably in 'til Monday, I'd better be a size 10 when I get out. 😂

lurkylurk · 03/05/2024 19:57

Vamozz · 03/05/2024 19:37

Hi @lurkylurk I just started yesterday and think our starting points - height and weight are v similar.
Not sure how far along you are but would love to get an idea of your losses if you don't mind telling me? 🙏

I ended up having the 4 doses of 25.mg over a 6 week period rather than 4, as I had a really nasty period and so delayed 2nd dose and then was ill (not from Mounjaro) and so delayed the 3rd one too so I'm probably not the best example!

Took 4th 2.5mg dose (along with some of bonus dose) on Tues just gone and a bit more of the bonus dose the next day as felt could do with more appetite suppression, so 5 and a half weeks in, have lost 7 pounds.

Lots here have lost a lot faster but doses were stretched out, still been drinking wine some days and not calorie counting closely at all, just smaller portions and skipping breakfast if not hungry so I'm happy with that.

Going forward I'm going to focus more, as it's too expensive to not be trying too hard! The larger dose this week seems to have put me off wine more so that's good and I'll behave myself a lot more on that front this weekend.

I know what you mean. I have plenty of size 14 clothes, so at this moment my wardrobe options have increased, as 90% of my wardrobe is size 14.

But once they start dropping off what do you do, buy a few 'placeholder' size 12's to wear for 6/8 weeks before needing 10's!!

I can't actually believe this is actually a reality.

Normally I do really well on a diet and then a self sabotage switch flicks and I put weight on. It's like I can't allow myself to be slim.

But not any more!

FlappyFish · 03/05/2024 19:59

@MelissaLouRocks hopefully side room means better sleep. Sorry you feel so unwell.

I know what you mean when feeling unwell. When I had Covid I felt awful and still one of my first thoughts was “I will lose weight so easily with this 😂”

@MelissaLouRocks

Sorry you're feeling pants, as FlappyFish said, hopefully you're getting better sleep even if it's even more boring. Maybe sign up for something like Medium? I like reading various articles on there.

lurkylurk · 03/05/2024 20:05

@Letsgoogogo

If you've been doing lots of exercise you may have been building muscle which weighs more but takes up a smaller space. Try taking measurements to compare in future if you hit a stall despite doing all the right things.

Also, I've found that Mounjaro, at least for me, can do funny things with water retention so I can vary by several pounds even over one day, so just keep doing what you're doing and you'll see it on the scales eventually.

Losingmymind85 · 03/05/2024 20:08

I haven't lost a single pound in 3 weeks, but I also haven't put anything on so maybe this is just how it's going to be for me. I'm eating well but health and family stuff stops exercising happening.
Trying not to get hung up on the scales but the stalling is very frustrating.

MelissaLouRocks · 03/05/2024 20:21

Thanks for the suggestion @lurkylurk 😊

Evening all… no weight loss again today for me. Almost on week 2 I think of nothing shifting. My clothes keep getting looser though.

I bought a jumpsuit in an 18. Didn’t fit. Got the 16. Didn’t fit. Got the 14 - ALMOST fits. I’m a size 15!

guestusername · 03/05/2024 21:51

Ah, the blasted inbetweeny size! Nice feeling though when the size you pick is too big ☺️

MrsLeavemealone · 03/05/2024 21:57

Quick check, I took my bonus dose today which equated to 3.5mg. I've got a weird side effect though - my lips and tongue are tingling. There's no swelling. It's quite unpleasant. Has anyone else experienced this?

EarwegoagainII · 03/05/2024 21:57

Can someone please share the click amounts for the 5mg pen. I saw it before and meant to screenshot but have lost it. Am not quite ready to go from 2.5-5

Also, from about 2-3 weeks from now, anyone ordering 5mg early (before current pen runs out) will need to check with their supplier if it's end of June expiry!

DH has just signed up for MJ (he is a diabetic on metformin but to be honest it doesn't do much, he does need help controlling his carb and general food intake!) and in his Med express package there was a leaflet saying that the expiry dates are now all extended:

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 03/05/2024 22:31

Evening all. Weigh in and jab day.

Week 10 (I think)
5mg (just started 2nd 5mg pen)
SW: 98kg
CW:91.8kg

Goal 1: 92kg (achieved)
Goal 2: 88kg - hopefully by the end of June at the latest

Last week's celebrations stalled my loss but I'm back on track and have no regrets. Not as speedy weightloss as some but I have a waist again so am happy with my progress, am hoping this is helping me readjust habits and find a more sustainable way of eating long term.

Am still largely avoiding UPF (apart from protein powder), though I've also introduced some purition shakes/porridge (milled not powder) which helps if I'm in a hurry.

Had an ice lolly with the family yesterday, having a small glass of red tonight. I still like sweet things and wine but I can have just a little and feel completely satisfied rather than feeling ravenous and out of control. Not feeling any side effects at the moment, the cold feeling appears to have subsided and I've not had any recent gastric issues so perhaps I'm just not a super responder.

I definitely feel more calm and in control in MJ, when I find myself seeking a dopamine hit I'm managing with a herbal tea, or a hot chocolate if I need the really big guns. I still get the urge to seek sugar in response to feeling upset or frustrated, but am able to recognise it for what it is (emotional dysregulation due to ADHD, not medicated yet but am on waiting list) and stop myself from adding all those empty calories.

DH is being very supportive, offering different things to eat and making sure I have something I can face even it it's different to everyone else's meal. He's also not grumbling about the many spa days /breaks I'm getting booked in as my non-food treats! It does help that I feel a bit more confident in a swimsuit with a stone less of me than there used to be.

If you read it correctly, the date is only extended for the three batches named on the paperwork. Further batches have to undergo stability testing before their dates can be extended.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 03/05/2024 23:28

Tonight was perhaps my first real test since starting MJ 10 days ago. I've had a rough week at work, have no appetite suppression from MJ (but not side effects either) and was out with friends. On the positives, I had the fish and salad rather than pizza or pasta. On the negative was the wine and the garlic bread. We'll see what the damage is over the next few days

Do you have Disney+? Shogun is great!

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 03/05/2024 23:43

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here, week 1, day 6 or 7 tomorrow depending on how you count. I am due week 2 jab Sunday morning but I am STARVING now. I could eat everything in the house. It is taking all my will power. So you think it would be OK to move injection forward to tomorrow morning or tomorrow night to help stave off this hunger and undoing all the good work done this week.

Sadly can't deal with looking at screen for a prolonged time at mo. Maybe tomorrow, thanks for the heads up. 😊

ObsidianTree · 04/05/2024 06:52

Morning all,

Down an lb this week. Feel like the losses is starting to stall a bit.

I think someone mentioned that stalls happen when you have lost a certain % of body weight. At the time I calculated and it seemed the stall weight was around what I am now! So will have to ride through it 😊

SW Keto in jan: 17st 6lbs
SW MJ: 16st 3lbs
Current weight: 14st 7lbs
