Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

If you read the first post of each thread there is loads of info there, super helpful. Also have a look at the newbies thread - that’s really good as everyone is at the start rather than 6-8 weeks in.

If you want a discount code etc just ask as a few of us have them for 50% off (https://joinvoy.com/r/U-cbsgdSxrss) and some posters have great discount codes for ongoing pens - just ask.

Noticed a thread on here about berberine. I did some reading and wonder if it might be a good supplement to take? Or maybe something to help with maintenance when we have to come off of MJ. Had anyone heard of this?

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/berberine-powerful-supplement#blood-sugar-regulation

Berberine — a Powerful Supplement with Many Benefits

Berberine is a compound extracted from several plants. It has many health benefits and may help protect against several chronic conditions.

Definitely NOT something to take alongside these drugs!!

Could be good for maintenance though I agree.

Grrrrr, someone help me calm down please. I've just reported a Lisa Regan on FB Mounjaro Community UK for selling, and the cheeky bitch has had the nerve to report me!! Quite what for I don't know.

By the way, thanks for whoever blocked Drake Gray, you just beat me to it! 😏

Just looked back on my fitness pal and can see that the last time I was this weight was summer 2018. That means I have finally got rid of the weight gained from 2 pregnancies (plus a third where I got to 13wks).
I met my DP in early 2018 and am half a stone from that goal. I'm a size bigger due to my apron stomach but it's a really good feeling to know I'm on my way back to feeling like 'me' rather than a giant blob.

Oh I bet that's an amazing feeling! This will be me in another 1.5 stones too (well pre kids). 3 stone pre when I met hubby 🫣

Wonkypictureframe · 20/04/2024 08:57

Feeling a bit stung by reading a thread about how stupid and lazy people on weight loss injections are. I should know better than to look. FFS I am highly educated, in a professional role. Like many of us I not only know what good nutrition looks like, I eat healthily and I exercise. I understand how this drug works and what can happen when you stop using it. Anecdata about how someone’s fat friend drinks hot chocolate and cream instead of tea (I dislike both hot chocolate and cream) doesn’t override that. I have ADHD, crappy hormones (medically acknowledged, not an ‘excuse’), and am menopausal, and have spent my whole life trying to eat the right thing to be thinner and failing. Eat less, move more is not going to do it.

Anyway, I have failed to monitor my weight loss properly in any way but this morning I am 13lbs lighter than my starting weight, just over six weeks in. That makes me very happy and sees me into the overweight BMI category. Yesterday I had a chicken, salad and tzatziki pitta (at a work function and it was the healthiest option) and dinner was grilled sea bass and a bean stew thing cooked by DH.

Hi, Newbie here,,, any recommendations of where to buy a starter pack from ? or any current discount codes? I am skimming the threads trying to get as much info as possible and am mighty impressed with the results you are all posting . My BMI is over 40 and my chronic obesity just ruined a little holiday sadly,,,, so its time to bite the bullet and sort this mess out.

Welcome- I was in a similar boat bmi wise. Very heavy though as I'm nearly 6ft. I've lost 30 pounds in 7 weeks with increasing exercise and limiting calories a lot (not really been a chore though). It's been a life saver genuinely!

Edited

Try not to let it get to you. I genuinely now see that I have an addiction to food- as dangerous to my health as alcoholism.

Only now I don't have these feelings can I truly recognise them. And unless you've had it yourself you would find it hard to understand I'm sure.

My MIL is very much in the "just eat a bit less" camp. I want to scream, "oh really, I'd never thought of that". 🙄

ObsidianTree · 20/04/2024 09:08

@Wonkypictureframe yes it is annoying reading negativity. I saw an advert for MedExpress mounjaro on Facebook and started reading the comments. So maybe diabetic people slagging us off for buying it meaning they can't get it on NHS. I had to hide the post to stop myself from commenting! So much negativity out there. Just backs up our reasoning for keeping it to ourselves really!

Yes, from the pen pics obviously American. I did what I always do, called them out, then a separate post tagging admin warning people. Now apparently I've been reported as a scammer which I'm not worried about, I'm just still in hospital over the weekend and I'm on a bit of a short fuse!

Well done @ObsidianTree and @PissedOffNeighbour22.
I make a chicken/veg/lentil soup which I’ve been having a lot.
@WonkypictureframeWell done on dropping into next bmi category it’s a massive boost. I know I’m dieting and walking lots to lose. Before mj it just wasn’t working - and no I wasn’t cheating. I’m viewing it as a tool to support but it still needs effort and good choices.

Wonkypictureframe · 20/04/2024 09:12

DH read an article in the Economist the other day which was very positive about these drugs (must track it down myself - forgot to!) and their potential not just for weight loss but for addiction issues, as well as possible use for Parkinson’s patients and some other things he listed off when I was half listening. Although supportive I think he was a bit nervous about what I was taking and this article really impressed him. He has been really struck by my lack of interest in alcohol.

Secretslimmer · 20/04/2024 09:12

Hello Omega4Ever, or anyone else looking for current codes, I have one for 50% off Voy, which is what I’ve been using (3 weeks in, 8lbs down)

I confess I was a bottle of red 5 times a week person. I haven't touched a drop since starting, and can't think of anything worse.

AgathaMystery · 20/04/2024 09:14

God I had no idea. You’d have to be really stupid to buy these pens from individuals - god knows what is in them.

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 20/04/2024 09:15

Sorry I can’t keep up with this thread so have been quiet but reading most messages. Had my second dose last night and my first weigh in this morning and I have lost almost 3kgs (6.6 lbs) Must admit I wasn’t expecting it. But guessing from all the updates here that this is not always going to be the case. No side effects yet but I do feel really ill if I overeat. Is that psychological?
