Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Yes the letter is generic. I'm not bothered just don't want them receiving a different one every month and then questioning me!

I was thinking of ordering 7.5mg from bolt if med express take too long, but not sure if I should if my GP is going to get another letter 😂

NCfor24 · 19/04/2024 21:33

Placemarking...how are we at page 5 already?!

Pigriver · 19/04/2024 21:38

I'm trying to shift my dose and would usually take tomorrow but going to try for Sunday this week and will be away til Monday the week after. Let's see how it goes, I'd be really hungry on 2.5 on the run up to injection day but was ok last week since I started 5mg.
Not had much of an appetite all week and tonight DH and ds wanted a take away. I couldn't be bothered to cook so said I'd have chip/fries. Traffic was terrible so they went somewhere new. Worst take away ever and I revived about 10 chips 😳 it was laughably shocking. Luckily those 10 chips were enough 🤣

CiderJabs · 19/04/2024 21:38

@Moanranger can you post a picture of the letter please? I've been trying to find it and have not been able to!

Choux · 19/04/2024 21:48

I think the way the Bolt letter is written showing what was actually prescribed it could be they plan to send a letter every month.

Rainbowl · 19/04/2024 22:46

Interestingly the 2.5mg pen I ordered at the end of March is listed in my Acute Medicines list in the NHS app, albeit with the date of 16 April. I wonder how that’s happened?! Perhaps my GP surgery has added it to my record after getting a letter from MedEpxress? Curious!

Scalessayeek · 19/04/2024 23:41

I think I've had three letters now, from
Pharmacy2u, voy & medexpress.

It's just noted on my records.

I have the same. It's been added to my Acute medicines with a date nearly three weeks after my order. I got a starter pack of 2.5 and 5mg pens from Bolt. Mine lists only the 2.5mg pen though. It also seems to be written as if I got 4 pens like in the US as the institutions say inject the entire contents of a pen!

The fifth dose is what you’ll see us refer to as the bonus dose. You either need to twist hard or use a needle to extract.
^ mine wasn't the bonus dose, it was the fourth where it got stuck. What type of needle should I get to extract?

Mine has just jammed but on the second injection. Really unimpressed as I’ve wasted a needle too. I’ve emailed MedExpress with a video of what is happening and requested a replacement but I don’t know if they will or how long it will take and I really don’t want to take the next dose very late.

I assume my local pharmacy may have these syringes that I could try extracting a dose with?

Wonkypictureframe · 20/04/2024 00:52

Oh, and without thinking I reinserted the needle to try again thinking I must have got it wrong somehow so I’m now expecting to end up in A&E as a result of reusing the needle! I feel a bit odd even though I don’t think I managed to inject anything.

lurkylurk · 20/04/2024 02:04

ObsidianTree · 19/04/2024 21:10

Thanks all.

The letter does look generic.

I don't have IBd but interesting that that's included. So if you have an irritable bowel you can't take MJ! Which is something quite common to have I thought. Maybe it's just MedExpess that don't accept people with it.

Irritable bowel is IBS "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" which is pretty common, the letter is talking about IBD "Inflammatory Bowel Disease" which is a lot less common.

Wonkypictureframe · 20/04/2024 07:19

I’ve just tried again with a new needle and no problems. I reckon I was tired last night and didn’t actually screw the needle in enough so it wasn’t on properly. Lesson learned there.

ObsidianTree · 20/04/2024 07:20

Morning all 😊

This week I have lost 2lbs. Most of the week it was just 1lb so thought it would be low this week, but this morning lost another lb.

So total loss 21lbs on MJ in 8 weeks

CW 14st 10lbs
GW 10st ???

Has anyone tried the arla protein yogurt? I had one this morning. 20g protein and 144 cals. It's so thick it made me really full. Didn't feel like eating anything else for hours!

I get the aldi ones. They are very thick and hard to eat at the start of a jab. Lots of protein in one though, so worth it. I've also finally bought some whey protein for a drink too.

I was very busy with work this week so although I didn't each much, I struggled to get much veg in asi didnt have time to prep it, so plan to make some veg/bean soups. I struggled to eat salad as I usually do as I felt so cold!.

It's great to hear about losses on here and very encouraging. I think those of us who are past the first four weeks are losing a bit more steadily, but those starting out are having the water loss at the beginning and are very surprised by it. I remember that whoooa feeling from the first week. 😊

I really need to get on an order my next jab as i last ordered 26th of March, but not sure what to get - 5mg or hold out til next week when 7.5mg might be available. I figured that with 7.5 if it is too much, I can count the clicks and take 3.5mg in stages every 4/5 days instead. I felt rough on my 5mg stomach jab this week, but it's lifted after 3 days and I feel OK today. In two weeks I will probably be ready to go up.

Soukmyfalafel · 20/04/2024 07:28

Wow, well done that's a great loss! 😁

Moanranger · 20/04/2024 07:35

@wonderingwhatsnext I just use the itsu sachets. Most Sundays I roast a chicken and take all the meat off and we eat for sandwiches, salads and I add to soup during week. I’ll also add what ever veg I have.

I just read you post and thought about the story of the mysterious MN chicken that lasts for several family meals, then realised it is a real possibility on Mounjaro. 😂

I do love a chicken soup with leftover roast chicken. I'm doing a roast today, so might freeze some for in the week.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 20/04/2024 07:46

Just looked back on my fitness pal and can see that the last time I was this weight was summer 2018. That means I have finally got rid of the weight gained from 2 pregnancies (plus a third where I got to 13wks).
I met my DP in early 2018 and am half a stone from that goal. I'm a size bigger due to my apron stomach but it's a really good feeling to know I'm on my way back to feeling like 'me' rather than a giant blob.

plinter · 20/04/2024 08:18

Took my 4th dose of 2.5 yesterday.
It's my with in day today and I've gained a pound this week, that means I've lost 6lbs in 3 weeks.
SW 14.13
CW 14.7
I posted during the week about how I gained 3lbs overnight! It is not food related so must be hormonal. I've lost one of those, just going to keep on going.

Hi, Newbie here,,, any recommendations of where to buy a starter pack from ? or any current discount codes? I am skimming the threads trying to get as much info as possible and am mighty impressed with the results you are all posting . My BMI is over 40 and my chronic obesity just ruined a little holiday sadly,,,, so its time to bite the bullet and sort this mess out.

WannabeHealthier · 20/04/2024 08:39

Week 8 weigh in - I’ve lost 23lbs! Absolutely delighted with this!

I haven’t been for a good few days now so feeling quite bloated - I’m drinking peppermint tea in a bid to get things moving!

Yesterday it was day 3 of my 5mg injection and I definitely felt it peaking. I really struggled to eat my 1,400 calories- could have eaten very few but I persisted. Felt quite uncomfortable though and very full! I definitely won’t be going up to 7.5mg!

ObsidianTree · 20/04/2024 08:40

Welcome @omega4ever 😊

Bolt do the starter doses for £125. They do a first and second pen bundle, but not sure if it's better value or not.

MedExpress tend to have voucher codes to get discounts too. Try STARTNOW, CONSULT-BUNNY, or FINAL20-BLOOM

Quick weigh in, check in from me.

No weight loss this week, but have had 2 days away with work, and that included meals out and a fair bit of booze.

-22lb down in 9 weeks.

@Thebaldprimadonna how are you doing, I have missed half of the last thread (and most of this one!)

I am away on holiday, so I don't know. No scales to be had. I don't feel like things have changed but we'll see when I can do a weigh in on Monday.
