Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

You know when everyone mentions getting the last dose out with a needle ? So am I right in thinking there's some left and you somehow remove it? Where do you get the needle and syringe to draw it out from? I've googled and YouTubed it and can't find any info on this anywhere about how to do this
Thanks in advance if anyone can shed any light on the matter !

It's insulin needles that you need.

Something like this.

https://www.medisupplies.co.uk/Syringes-Needles/Insulin-Needles-Syringes/BD-MicroFine+-29G-1ml-Insulin-Syringes

BD Micro-Fine+ 29G, 1ml Insulin Syringes

BD Micro-Fine+ 29G, 1ml Insulin Syringes. Graduated in 2 unit intervals, for doses over 50 units

Oh. And I just took my injection two days early. I think my body is truly adjusting to 5. The last injection I did was the bonus dose and whilst I did inject it properly I wonder if that is part of it.

I am just mentioning it as I know some people feel comfortable on the dose and are sticking. However, after 5 weeks on 5 and 5 weeks on 2.5 I am now seeing why people do move up. I’d rather not rush up, but I have two 5 pens, one I just used fresh to inject early.

I've been debating staying on five for another month because I noticed when I started a new pen (both 2.5 and 5) I had a couple of occasions that first week where I get a bit lightheaded headed - otherwise it's working well for me and I'm losing. I'm only on week two of the 5 though, so now wondering if I should move up after all ....

@Rainbowl sorry to hear your news

@MelissaLouRocks i used to work with mesh patients and know from both sides just how bloody hard it is. I hope that things start to get easier for you

@Soukmyfalafel my MedExpress order of 7.5mg is now awaiting dispatch! Abe you heard anything about yours?

user1471503652 · 25/04/2024 12:08

Anyone else find the reordering process on Med Express really odd. If you want to do a straight forward reorder from your account, it doesn't allow you to select a higher dose so when I went up to 5mg I had to do a fresh order.

Gone on today to order 7.5mg and it's giving this error message

The questionnaire for Mounjaro® step up dose 5mg was not completed correctly. Contact customer support for more information.

I've checked my answers to the consultation a million times and I can't understand what the issue is.

imnottoofussed · 25/04/2024 12:20

Yes I had that problem so did a fresh order on my laptop as on my phone it kept pre filling in answers and giving me that error message

I had this too and moving to laptop didn't work for me. I messaged them, there's a bug in their form so you need to put your weight as whatever puts you in the obese BMI category to progress. Then email them to tell them your actual weight. They're working on getting fixed apparently.

I just clicked reorder, chose the higher dose and that was it.
The form is mostly filled in with previous answers, it just asks for weight up date and about 3 other boxes to tick. Very straight forward.

I ordered my 7.5 at 8am today, they've just emailed to say it's been dispatched!!

Sorry for your loss @Rainbowl

It's been a day of deliveries here - first the 7.5mg from Bolt with a massive sharps bin (to add to the collection...) and they also sent alcohol wipes which I didn't get from Pharmacy2U. As an aside, my cats love the wool packaging so that is now on their favourite seats.
Then my extra needles came - 100 feels a bit like overkill but let's see! I did get 3 additional ones over my previous MJ orders so not even sure if I'll need to break into them but it's good to have them anyway

FlappyFish · 25/04/2024 12:46

@Rainbowl sorry for your loss and I’m glad you have MJ as a tool to help.

@MelissaLouRocks sending love and recovery.

@ObsidianTree and all. The 12 was a scary milestone, but I will qualify it with the fact I had to get others in a 14. But I can’t quite believe it either. I can certainly say I’m a 14 now. Some clothes look stupid. There’s oversized and drowning.

Constiaption remains a problem. I’m using all tools I can. If I could actually get the build up of fermented salad out, I am sure I would lose weight. 😂

Indeed, all perspective. For once in my life I am not saying I want to be thin. Thinness is secondary to health and I need to find exercise I can do that not walking briefly as part of life.

In other news I have now told my OH. He reacted far better than expected and said as long as I don’t take it too far. He knows me too well. He stayed with me all through my descent and then recovery from alcoholism.

Femeia · 25/04/2024 12:54

@FlappyFish embrace those NSVs! Size 12 is brilliant! I know how you feel about the stupid scales though, what I'm doing now is still weighing every morning but only recording it when I lose weight. Otherwise I just ignore it, as I know that I just cannot have put on weight with what I'm eating. (2lbs on this morning ConfusedConfusedConfused)

MoreThanJustANumber · 25/04/2024 13:19

@MelissaLouRocks You sound amazingly strong having been through all that. I'm slightly in awe of you! Hope things are easier going forward and you can get compensation.

Sorry for your loss, @Rainbowl

Interestingly my 7.5mg arrived today from Bolt, and before they gave me exactly the right amount of needles and wipes – I ordered the double pack and had eight needles and eight wipes. This time I've got five of each, and since the wipes are in twos they had to manually separate them, so I guess they know we're getting five doses out of a pen!

AgathaMystery · 25/04/2024 13:23

Oh @Rainbowl in so sorry for your loss. Sending love.

@MelissaLouRocks
p.s., if there's a petition to parliament I can sign or anything like that, do let me know.

Thanks that's really kind of you. Nothing current, but will let you know if anything more comes up.

Investinmyself · 25/04/2024 13:30

Well done @Pigriver.
@FlappyFish i’d look at it overall 2 stone in 10 weeks is amazing. You won’t lose big amounts at a lower weight. Keep going.

FlappyFish · 25/04/2024 13:34

@Femeia and @Investinmyself I like the idea of not measuring the gains on MFP. Yes, weight loss will slow. I mean I think half of what bugs me is that I’m sat hovering over 12. There is a massive psychological part to want to see an 11. I’ve not seen that for years.

I am sure it will come.

I am so glad you’re all here with me and me here with you.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/04/2024 13:38

Sorry to hear of everyone's troubles at the moments, life certainly throws some curve balls sometimes!
Goodness me I feel lethargic today, barely walk around the supermarket. I felt great on lower doses but not much effect, this week I added some more from leftovers to my 4th 5mg (my guess is a 7.5) and I feel so tired! Could be worse side effects but wasn't expecting this. Have recently eating so not that.

R4ch402 · 25/04/2024 13:40
