Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Femeia and @Investinmyself I like the idea of not measuring the gains on MFP. Yes, weight loss will slow. I mean I think half of what bugs me is that I’m sat hovering over 12. There is a massive psychological part to want to see an 11. I’ve not seen that for years.

I am sure it will come.

I am so glad you’re all here with me and me here with you.

Yup. I’m desperate for me weight to start with a 7 (kg) not an 8. It was a 9 for YEARS. I know realistically I’m a month off it starting with a 7 but I want it sooooo BADLY

I made Korean prawn and vegetable pancakes for lunch, I hadn't had breakfast and it was so yummy I ate the whole thing, now regretting that somewhat!

Seems like the appetite suppression is getting a lot less but the slowing in stomach emptying isn't!!

lurkylurk · 25/04/2024 14:14

Is that that UKMum back agina with a slightly different username?

MelissaLouRocks · 25/04/2024 14:15

Congrats and well done everyone on their losses. 🎉

Sorry if I'm a bit quiet at the moment, having a rough one and it's a duvet day for me, although obviously the dog is nursing me as best she can. 😂

Thanks everyone for your really kind thoughts and comments re the mesh debacle. I don't have many people in real life, and it's actually given me a positive lift knowing people care.

In other news, haven't posted my progress for a while. I started on MJ 1 April and things were very slow. For my fourth jab Monday I went up to 3.75, and I've just hit a 10 pound loss today. With my issues and being hypothyroid that's nothing short of a miracle, I'd dance a happy dance if I wouldn't fall over. 😂

SW 196.6lbs (BMI 32)
CW 186.2lbs
GW 160.0lbs (will work from there)

And you've got a pic of my dog whether you like it or not. 😏

Just noticed my typo!

Well done on the 10 pounds off, and what a cutie pie dog!

Do you have a recipe? I have been getting into Korean food a bit recently and have half a jar of gochujang paste in the fridge. I had prawn and veg pancakes in a Korean restaurant as well.

I didn't use a proper recipe as such as I had some Korean pancake mix from a Korean shop near me, so just added spring onion, shredded carrot, some shredded cabbage and prawns and some chilli flakes, and made a dipping sauce with some sweet soy sauce, rice vinegar and sesame oil but there's a very similar one here:

https://eatchofood.com/blog/2020/5/21/shrimp-and-zucchini-korean-pancake

I've always loved asian food and my older daughter makes a lot of traditional Korean dishes, including her own kimchee sometimes. The younger one, who's a bit fussy can be made to eat anything so long as soya or hoisin or teriyaki sauce and sesame oil are involved!

Lol I just checked a few threads and they have posted on them too.

@AgathaMystery basically someone that posts their Voy codes on multiple different threads. Did it about a month ago! Guess they are ready for their next pen!

What’s the story with U.K. mum??

There was a poster called UK mum who didn't contribute anything to the thread other than posts saying she'd been taking Mounjaro, lost lots of weight with no side effects and giving her Voy code so she got reported. Not that people can't share Voy codes, it was just the way she was doing it.

AgathaMystery · 25/04/2024 15:27

Ohhhh I seeeeeee

look, if anyone’s gonna share a voy code it’s me 😂

Hi All

I'm sorry to hear of your family losses and health challenges, and I hope you have the support in place to see you through.

Work is causiing me grief, but there are worse things in life and I'm trying to keep the bigger picture in mind. At least with MJ the temptation to stress eat is significantly reduced.
My appetite is not so strong today, am going to put it down to the full sized portion of Pad Thai I ate last night! Was tasty, pleased to say no side effects over night. Had porridge for breakfast but not really fancied lunch so have had a few protein balls to ensure continued nutritional intake. Am tired today but that might not be anything to do with MJ. Tomorrow is week 9, haven't weighed myself for a couple of days so will be good to see if I've maintained, increased or finally hit sub 92kg.

lurkylurk · 25/04/2024 16:39

@AgathaMystery

Absolutely 😂

dmott · 25/04/2024 16:48

I'm damn peckish today but also a lil nauseous from this mornings 5mg.
I'm guessing my body's having a hard time distinguishing the ick feeling from hunger.
Does anyone else get that where they feel a little weird and their brains go to fix is maybe eat.

RunningAndSinging · 25/04/2024 17:22

My 7.5 mg from Bolt has arrived too. I also have five needles and five wipes. Maybe it is a spare in case something goes wrong or perhaps they are being practical based on reality! So relieved it’s here before my next dose is due.

My daily weigh this morning was the first under 80kg since the end of January. Finally a bit of a drop down - let’s hope it continues in that direction.

Just ordered from MedExpress. I’m really hoping prescription will be granted quickly and it’ll arrive Friday or Monday! I’m really ready. Email said demand is high so I might have to wait 2-3 days to be prescribed. Any recent first time orderers with MedExpress? Did it take long?

First order Wednesday at 8pm, despatched today at 4pm. Due to arrive Friday. 👍
