Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Lovely

Ooh! Exciting! Mine's arriving tomorrow but then I need to use up my 5mg pen first. Tempting to do 1.5 doses each time but I have some pretty major stuff coming up and work and then a holiday so need to think if I want to do that. And this is mainly because I still feel that the 5mg isn't effective enough for me, not because I'm trying to dose as much as possible!

Femeia · 24/04/2024 13:47

FlappyFish · 24/04/2024 13:44

Oh. And I just took my injection two days early. I think my body is truly adjusting to 5. The last injection I did was the bonus dose and whilst I did inject it properly I wonder if that is part of it.

I am just mentioning it as I know some people feel comfortable on the dose and are sticking. However, after 5 weeks on 5 and 5 weeks on 2.5 I am now seeing why people do move up. I’d rather not rush up, but I have two 5 pens, one I just used fresh to inject early.

You are me! Although I have stuck to the timings. Sooooo frustrating isn't it? After my whoosh at the weekend I've gone up a pound and not moved since despite sticking to the right foods.

NextPrimeMinister · 24/04/2024 13:49

@AgathaMystery @MelissaLouRocks @RagzRebooted I've reverted to using my mouthguard that I got from my dentist. £90 via private as cheaper than nhs.

@Choux have you heard from ME yet? I've not.

@Thebaldprimadonna well done on the WL!

RagzRebooted · 24/04/2024 13:51

@MelissaLouRocks interesting, thanks. It will be my colleague doing it at work so I'll make sure I've finished my clinic first!
@ObsidianTree ooh, first 7.5mg on the thread, exciting! How long until you start it?
@NextPrimeMinister I do have a mouth guard from my dentist, but I really struggle to get to sleep with it in and then I spit it out in my sleep anyway!

ObsidianTree · 24/04/2024 13:51

@FlappyFish sorry you are stalling etc. Do you feel like 5mg is still working? Could you maybe need to go up to 7.5mg?

Hope the stall breaks soon and starts moving downward again

Lol ages 🤣 need to finish the 5mg pen that I have only just started!

OP posts:
RagzRebooted · 24/04/2024 13:54

@ObsidianTree what's the expiry date on it? Hopefully ages. I assume Voy will send me 7.5mg as my next one in 3 weeks time, but if I'm not getting through my 5mg fast enough and end up extending my next pen as well, I could end up with them hanging around a while. I took 3.75mg last time, but may well go up halfway through, no one knows how these doses are going to feel by 3-4 weeks in!

RagzRebooted · 24/04/2024 13:56

@FlappyFish I know it's not considered officially a stall until 4 weeks, but I bet that's frustrating.
I had about 10 days of bouncing around but going down again now.

RagzRebooted · 24/04/2024 13:58

This is my 5 weeks so far.

Hi everyone, I'm week 5 of Mounjaro and I'm 20lbs down

Wow that’s amazing progress - you must be pleased

What was your starting point and where do you want to get to? Have you experienced any symptoms?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/04/2024 14:24

@FlappyFish I feel the same and really wanted to do the dose today instead of waiting but I'm working away a lot over the next few weeks so I would be risking side effects where I really can't, so am having to stick it out and keep my injection day set 😓.

My 7.5mg arrived today but I have a new 5mg pen with June expiry on it to use first. If it had a longer date I'd have kept it and gone straight to 7.5mg.

I put 2lb on yesterday somehow, which I'm pretty annoyed about. It had better come off by weigh day on Friday!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 24/04/2024 15:40

Oooh @ObsidianTree ! What's the expiry on it?

Asda just asked me to order my 7.5mg pen but I haven't even started my 5mg yet!

Is anyone ordering their 7.5mg pen early just in case there's a shortage?

Whattodo112222 · 24/04/2024 15:44

I'm 4 weeks in and I feel utterly horrific. Nausea like nothing else. Tummy ache. Constipated with the desperate urge to go but nothing happens..

I move up to 5mg soon and I'm dreading it!

I'm really pleased. I'm 5ft7 and started at 14 stone 10 and a size 20. I'm now a size 16 and 13st 4. I've always been overweight since my teens so I'm not really sure what my goal weight is, I think I'll aim for higher end of 11st?
Sh
I'm calorie counting and have a personal trainer at the moment too.

I've had absolutely no side effects apart from the food noise stopping, I'm no longer constantly thinking about food, I haven't binge eaten food once in 5 weeks (used to binge around 1,000 calories a night after dinner) and I'm satisfied after a small amount of my meals rather than having to finish my plate and then finish everyone else's plates too

The nausea and tummy ache will be exacerbated by the constipation, so I'd suggest taking something (senna, lactulose) for that and seeing if it helps.
Re the 5mg, you don't have to go up yet, you can do half doses if needed for a few more weeks (I did 3.75mg as still quite nauseous). Is it working weight loss wise?

Soukmyfalafel · 24/04/2024 16:02

Thanks everyone for your protein shake issue suggestions. I'm going to try giving it a big whizzing in the blender.

I still haven't heard if Med Ex have accepted me from Asda. Are you able to cancel if it drags out? Maybe I should have stuck with asda.

Just done my 3rd 5mg. After last week's sulphur burps I have gone for a thigh injection, but hope I still get a good effect from it. I have gone up a lb again, but I tend to hover around a lb then go down properly.

Flapearedknave · 24/04/2024 16:03

I don't go by stones as there is too much emotion attached to them, if that makes sense.

But I've just checked, and I'm now well in the 15 stone bracket! So happy!

Congrats everyone on your losses.

I've started using rosemary oil on my hair, in case of loss due to weight loss. I'm loving waking around being able to smell it, it's one of my favourite fragrances haha

I will be able to order my 7.5 next Tues according to medex.

MuthaHubbard · 24/04/2024 16:03

Just ordered my 7.5 pen from Asda!

I've already done one month on 5, and have another 5 in the fridge for the next month. I decided to do another month on 5 as I've felt a few more side effects this time (lots of burpiness and touch of dodgy tum) and didn't want to jump up too soon

You don't have to go up, you could continue on 2.5 for another month.

This is a good idea @Whattodo112222

Let your body have a bit longer to get used to it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Does anyone know how long your account is "locked" before you can reorder from med express? I've taken my 3rd 5mg dose (so I have 1 left, plus the Brucey bonus 5th dose) and am about to order my 3rd pen but I would quite like to stay on 5mg for now but have a 7.5 available a couple of weeks in, just in case 5mg starts failing on me and I still have 3 or so weeks to go on the 5.

Thebaldprimadonna · 24/04/2024 16:44

I haven't heard from MedExpress about approving the 7.5 order I placed yet. Zava (whom I have been with up to now) have emailed me to say that 7.5 is now in stock there, but it is about £40 more so I really hope that MedEx get to me soon. I imagine they are getting through existing customers first, which is fair enough.
