Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Oh no sorry to hear this, hope you feel better soon

However I think you might be the first person who has experienced vomiting on this thread… compared to the ozempic threads where it seems to be every other person who has experienced it

I had meant to post on the newbie thread, started with a 2.5 dose on Monday morning and by the afternoon I had zero appetite. Same today but have forced myself to eat small amounts. Have had awful sulphur burps all day today so think something just hasn’t settled right in my stomach.

Had a small amount of tea tonight, started with the runs straight after and now vomiting.

I didn’t realise vomiting was more common on ozempic, I’m glad it doesn’t seem to be a side effect for most people on MJ!

I started on Sunday ... started with sulphur burps yesterday and have been up all night with diarrhoea. I really hope these side effects wear off as I can't cope with this!

GlueNoGlue · 24/04/2024 06:57

@SnappyMuffin i had exactly the same for two days. Only diarrhoea at night but all night for two nights. And burps that tasted like sulphur eggs. Touch wood it seems to have gone, I slept the full night with no issues last night

Soukmyfalafel · 24/04/2024 07:16

I think we started about the same time invest. I think my loss is similar to yours. It fluctuates, but the trajectory seems to be in the right direction.

I have to be somewhere today where I don't want side effects, so I'm taking 3rd 5mg tonight, but would have done it yesterday as I was much more hungry. I was probably eating maintenance calories rather than a deficit. I do think sometimes you need the odd day of that though to keep your strength up. I'm eating 1,200 cals too as I'm quite short. It is hard sometimes, even with MJ. It is not much food. My tactic when I come off is lots of soup for lunches. Maybe even a MN massive salad 😂but I do need to plan how I'm going to maintain. I think my maintenance calories will be 1700 to 1800.

Soukmyfalafel · 24/04/2024 07:18

Does anyone know how to mix a protein shake so that you don't get lots of plastic gloom at the top. They are minging. So much sweetener which I hate. I'm struggling with it.

Wonkypictureframe · 24/04/2024 07:27

Hi all. I have now lost my first stone, after seven weeks. I’m not unhappy but I do find myself laughing inside at the criticisms of rapid weight loss on these jabs, for me at least!

I do have an issue though as I am really struggling to eat. For the last three days I have had one small meal each day. DH cooked pork chops one night and they were fatty and it completely made my system say no more. Today I will be doing my best to eat three small light meals as I will NOT lose weight by just not eating. That would be totally unsustainable.

I blend mine with fruit as a smoothie but I have the milky one. I struggle with too much sucralose (IBS) but found the ones sweetened with Stevia I am ok with and it doesn't have the super strong aftertaste sucralose does.

I think someone mentioned a few threads back the clear ones are much nicer blended with ice?

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 24/04/2024 07:37

Morning. I'm really looking forward to moving up a dose this weekend. Took my last 2.5 last Fri and I find that I'm really hungry this week. I'm eating small, mounjaro size portions, and they're satisfying, which they wouldn't have been before MJ, but am definitely using willpower to resit eating food that isn't that great for me.

How's everyone else getting on who are on their last days of 2.5?

This week's weigh in and I have dropped another couple of pounds since coming back from holiday.

I am really hoping that soon I will drop into the next stone bracket. I never thought I would see 11-sonething on the scales again. It's been such a struggle.

WannabeHealthier · 24/04/2024 07:54

I’m experiencing a big stall this week along with lots of bloating, but I’ve lost 24lbs over 9 weeks so I can’t really complain. However, this is the point at which I’d usually give up… slowly at first with a few snacks here and there. Then it would all go to pot.

I took my third 5mg yesterday and I actually feel hungry now - not that it’s a bad thing but it’s definitely wearing off. I think I will try and stick with the 5mg for my next pen if I can. Still have a while to decide.

I will not give up this time- I’ve come so far and just need to be patient. I think I got carried away thinking I could go out and buy a new wardrobe soon but I it’s going to be a while for that. Despite MJ this is a long road - it took years to put this weight on and it’s going to take at least a year to get it off!

Are you using the wire ball they goes in the bottle that stops it sticking together?

Well done on your losses @Wonkypictureframe and @Thebaldprimadonna.

@AgathaMystery you're doing smaller doses from your 5 pen aren't you? Are you extracting with a needle to do that?

LifeisHard73 · 24/04/2024 08:23

Well done everyone on your losses! And for sticking with it even if you’re feeling hungry/wanting to snack!

End of week one for me tomorrow and I do find I’m a bit hungrier but I’ve stayed focused. I was at a work event last night ans there was loads of crisps- I love crisps! But I didn’t have any because I knew if I had one I’d keep going.

My official weigh day is Friday, but had a weigh in this morning (and I haven’t been to the loo- sorry TMI).

SW pre MJ 11.5
lost 4 pounds before starting
SW MJ 11.1
CW 10.8.2
first goal get below 10 in May
GW 9 stone

Im 5ft 3 so I could comfortably be 8 stone and be consider the perfect healthy weight but I'm not sure I can get there and if I do I’m not sure I can stay there.

no, just less clicks. So not clicking to ‘1’

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/04/2024 08:52

@LifeisHard73 well done :)
I'm the same height as you (but started 4st heavier) and there's no way I could ever be 8st. I'm aiming for 10st as I think that's more reasonable for me and I don't think I could maintain it any lower than that.

Once you get to 9st I'm sure it will be clearer whether it's right for you or if you feel you still need to lose a little more.

I've looked back on my fitness pal and the lowest weight I've ever recorded was 9st 13lb and I really can't remember what that looked like on me as was 10 years ago!

My weight starts with an 82 today!!!! I cannot BELIEVE it. I mean I can, but I can’t.

i’m finding The combo of feeling a bit hungry but not caring really okay. Hunger I can handle, food noise I cannot. The worst part for me has been the jaw clenching. I am exhausted by it and think I might take a day off next week to simply relax.

who am I kidding. It’s local elections coming up. There is no time off.

Rainbowl · 24/04/2024 09:04

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin I’m feeling very much the same although I’m still losing weight. It’s just taking more willpower to say no to certain things. I’m okay with that tbh, as I need to practice dealing with cravings, hunger etc.

I think I’m going to take my 5th dose tonight, one day early. I really want to move up to 5mg but this week is not the week to risk side effects as I am solo parenting while my lovely FIL is dying in hospital 😔
