Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Doh - now it lets me attach the photo.

Thank you , that’s great I’ll look them out although not sure on how to adapt dose with those so bit nervous and I might try the chemist tomorrow as well (I can always order too )
Any Med express codes ? I’ve only got the one they gave for when they were out of stock of 7.5 mg so bet it won’t work .

April88 · 23/04/2024 19:08

For the extra dose and twisting the pen, do you put the needle on and then force it round to 1? Or force it round to 1 then put the needle on?

Choux · 23/04/2024 19:09

MED20P was 20% off yesterday for new customers. I used it yesterday.

We can help you sort out doses for the syringes if you need help. I just extracted everything I could out of my pen for the 5th dose and injected it!

This is a MedExpress code by the way.

Wow! I can't believe all the threads!!! I'm on my second 5 pen and to be honest I'm finding that my overeating crap at night has come back with a bit of a vengeance! Anyone else finding they are getting these symptoms on this dose? In truth I know that I'm probably not having as much water as I probably should be, but I haven't lost any weight for a few weeks either. I lost more on 2.5. I'd rather stick at this dose if possible due to all the shortages that I'm hearing about -is there any news on whether the 7.5 is going to be difficult to get like in the US? I haven't gained weight which is a bonus but I've probably lost about 12lb in 10 weeks, which is great but most of that was at the beginning!

Mortigua · 23/04/2024 19:10

Thank you , I’m not a new customer but have ordered anyway , I’ve gone for the 7.5 and just hope it’s not too much !

Force to 1 before adding the needle.

Other MedExpress codes are

MED20P
STARTNOW
FINAL20-BLOOM
CONSULT-BUNNY think this is existing customers only.

Mortigua · 23/04/2024 19:15

Thank you I managed to use the one they sent when they had to delay the 7.5 but not sure if they will change their mind when it’s processed so great to have alternatives

MountKilimounjaro · 23/04/2024 19:19

@Mortigua if you used dose20 it definitely works, no need to worry about them taking it back. I used it on a 7.5mg pen which is arriving tomorrow. It's valid until the end of April for any returning customers.

MelissaLouRocks · 23/04/2024 19:35

For anyone using them for collagen, I've just discovered you can get a 20% discount at Hunter and Gather with the code Ethan.

HanSB · 23/04/2024 20:31

Update on my Bolt 7.5 pre-order - it's been posted tomorrow so will arrive Thursday. I expect everyone will be getting their 7.5 pens delivery this week!

Choux · 23/04/2024 20:36

Waaah! Waaah! My MedExpress order is not yet approved. Everyone else is getting their 7.5mgs and not me!

That looks good, how big is the jar? I can't see anywhere on the website how many mls/grams it is.

You need very small amounts as it’s so concentrated, 30g is probably about right… but the jar is lasting a lot longer than normal moisturisers. It’s got an unusual texture, hard to explain but it’s really nice. There are lots of reviews on the product pages and I would say they are genuine based on my experience and the photos which look like real people (you never know online these days- so many fake reviews !)

WannabeHealthier · 23/04/2024 21:25

RagzRebooted · 23/04/2024 16:51

That happened to me, week 4/5 for about 10 days I went up and down after a new low. Going down again now.

I’m also going up. I’m so bloated it’s ridiculous, not very regular and my stomach is distended so much. I look like I’m back to my original size (but know I’m not, it’s just the bloat). I’m drinking lots of water because I’ve read that it helps, I should also probably cut down on my caffeine.

Anyway I’m keeping the faith… I’m sure I’ll have a whoosh in the next couple of weeks (hope so!)

I'm the same @Choux :(

I'm swapping from Asda, so have filled in the form, attached the photos plus sent the email with the required photos......still waitng to be prescribed.

Although, I only sent the last of the info at lunchtime, so suspect I'm being slightly unreasonable!!

Choux · 23/04/2024 21:54

Snap. I only sent my previous prescription proof at 2pm. And I still have 1 x 5mg dose and the bonus dose left but I want to know my next pen is sorted.

MeAndMounjaro · 23/04/2024 21:56

Pigriver · 23/04/2024 13:25

Week 8 and a bit and have had my first toilet incident 😳 literally had to run this morning and had the fear I wouldn't make it. Felt a bit off all day. Not great when you are trying to run a nursery! Struggling to eat much at the minute which I think is making me more nauseous. Got new electrolytes (mango flavour) and the first sip tasted like the retro alchopop Reef 🤢

Hmm what is this? I'm here for Reef!!

For the extra dose and twisting the pen, do you put the needle on and then force it round to 1? Or force it round to 1 then put the needle on?

I just did what I would normally do, which includes the priming bit.

I used a wrench to do the twist as I couldn't do it by hand.

Soukmyfalafel · 23/04/2024 22:57

I put in my request at Med Ex to swap provider late this afternoon.

The MED20P one didn't work but the STARTNOW got 15% off. Given that it's already £20 cheaper, and then extra off it worked out £40 cheaper than Asda. It was worth a try trying to swap Hope it gets accepted, but if not I will go back to Asda. I still have 2x5mg plus extra dose, but want to get the 7.5mg in case of stock issues. If I get to goal weight at during of 7.5mg I will split dosages towards the end of the 7.5mg to titrate down. I don't want a blunt cut off at 7.5mg as that is a recipe for rapid weight gain. I want to get used to hunger again and try and manage it better, instead of relying on it not being there at all. That's my intention anyway, not sure if it's feasible or safe yet to do that. I need to look into it.

Investinmyself · 23/04/2024 23:08

I’ve just had another 5mg. I’m 6 weeks in, 13lb down. Eating around 1200 cals a day - high protein over 3 smallish meals. Had bad period pain today that’s definitely a side effect for me. Other than that feel well minimal side effects. I’m 20lb off a healthy bmi.

Pigriver · 23/04/2024 23:22

@MeAndMounjaro orange and pineapple squash with mango electrolyte tabs. They were from Sainsbury's I think. I'll take a pic tomorrow!
I had to tip it out, not what I needed!
