Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I feel like I want to start this post with a sigh. My weight loss has very much slowed.

SW 125 KG
CW 116 or 115.5 KG

I'm sad that it's not changed much in the last couple or weeks. But I am having NSV - I am exercising more than I have in the last 10 years. And I can zip up my coat without a struggle any more. I'm so pleased about those things.

I need to get more organised with what I'm eating. I had emotional eating twice this week. It's spurred me on to get my counselling started.

If you've had stalling please tell me about how you got the scales moving again. Thank you!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 21/04/2024 22:13

@Soukmyfalafel I'm on my 5th dose of 5mg and no longer feel it's having much effect. I took this week's dose early and still don't feel much appetite suppression.

naughty40me · 21/04/2024 22:18

I took my first dose Friday morning.
Been on 1200 to 1300 cals. My blood sugar dropped terribly earlier.

Had to eat 2 squares of chocolate and a glass of juice to feel better. Felt very shaky and faint.

I skipped breakfast though..another habit I must break because obviously not a good move!

ObsidianTree · 21/04/2024 20:45

Glad you're able to go home @MelissaLouRocks

@CormorantStrikesBack I only really found it worked well for about 2 weeks. After that I felt I could move up, but no 7.5mg so with 5mg for a second month. Will go up to 7.5mg on my next pen

Same here.

I am absolutely in a stall. No doubt about it. I’ve barely drunk a pint of liquid a day and for me, I know drinking plenty of sugar free squash is the key.

I don’t know why I can’t seem to do it some days. If I can hit 3 pints of squash. The weight goes.

I am stuck at 84kg. My lowest weight in the past 15 years is 76kg. It feels doable. I can almost visualise it. I am going to do it. All I have to do is what I’ve lost twice over.

I’ve got 2 degrees. I’ve pulled myself out of poverty and misery. I’ve done things that are so brave and reckless no one would believe. Hell. I’ve grown a human! I can do this.

(that’s probably more than you asked for)m and also not quite enough).

Happy Season 17 GIF by The Simpsons

Finally back from my holiday, which means I have weighed in.

I am amazed to say that I lost weight - a pound off is a first on holiday for me and normally I'd come home with an extra half a stone.

SW: 13st 10
CW: 12st 3

After 1 week: Feb 28th 13st 2 (- 8 pounds)
After 2 weeks: March 6th 12st 12 (- 4 pounds)
After 3 weeks: March 13th 12st 9 (-3 pounds)

Moved to 5mg
After 4 weeks: March 20th 12st 9 (-0 pounds)
After 5 weeks: March 28th 12st 8 (-1 pound)
After 6 weeks April 3rd 12st 4 (-4 pounds)
After 7 weeks April 10th 12st 3 (-1 pound)
After 8 weeks April 22nd 12st 2 (-1 pound)

Grand total: 22 pounds lost (1st 8Ib)
BMI down from 35.7 to 31.6

BlackFriYay · 22/04/2024 07:02

TBP - well done that's impressive! Holidays are definitely a test of our resolve.

Agatha - me too. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread for tips. I've had 4 days of being much less active as I've not been well but pushed myself to get back to the gym yesterday and get back on top of my water intake. I've lost and gained the same 1.5lbs 😑

MuthaHubbard · 22/04/2024 07:16

Jeez these threads are like lightening. On 5mg at the mo with another in the fridge. Was hoping Asda would have 7.5 in today but no joy as yet. Happy to stick with Asda so hopefully they have it soon if Bolt do.
Still, 9 weeks in and 21lbs down.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 22/04/2024 07:27

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/04/2024 20:04

I am at the same point as you and have struggled today.
I can reorder Thursday which is payday!

Are you going to do the 2.5 plus some extra on this Thursday?

Hi

Thats what I was thinking. It’s definitely worn off a lot quicker.
I get paid Friday so figured the 5mg will be here before the next shot is due.

RagzRebooted · 22/04/2024 07:30

@Thebaldprimadonna wow, losing a pound on holiday is huge! I too gain half a stone, usually.
If you think about it, you've actually lost 8lbs 😉

susiedaisy1912 · 22/04/2024 07:32

For those feeling despondent about their weight loss on the 2.5 & 5mg. I follow a few people on tik Tok who know a lot more about MJ and they all say that in the trials the company Eli Lily did the consistent sustained weight loss didn't happen for a lot of people at the 2 lower doses. These are acclimating doses. The effectiveness really kicks in for most people at 7.5 & 10mg.

This is both encouraging and daunting 🙈

I felt like crap on the bonus dose from the 2.5 pen, and that was only about 3.5ish.

I'm due to start the 5 today and I'm still not feeling 100%, I guess I'd better suck it up.

RunningAndSinging · 22/04/2024 07:44

Glad to hear this about the 7.5 and 10 doses as I am plateauing at the moment. I did have a random big drop partway through the week but it has crept back up to 81kg where I have been for a while (although I guess Monday is usually a spike up so perhaps I should be more positive)

Anyway, I have got 0.7ml out of my 5mg pen for my last dose which I calculate to be 5.8 mg for this week. Keeping my fingers crossed that Bolt come through with the 7.5 mg pen before next Monday.

@Thebaldprimadonna well done on the holiday weight loss twinnie. I stayed the same last week so we are now on the same weight loss. 🙃

We're doing so well 🙂

Are you moving up to 7.5 soon? I normally use Zava, but no news from them yet on when it's available.

KeepingUndercover · 22/04/2024 08:31

Monday weigh in: 1.7kg down this week, which was week 2 of 5mg. The worst week so far for side effects for me, but the second half of the week I felt much better. Despite the bad side effects I could also feel it wearing off over the weekend. Not enough to cause problems though. Just a chance to exercise some willpower.

I've lost 9.6kg in 6 weeks, so close to my first goal of 10kg! Next goal after that is a BMI of under 40.

ObsidianTree · 22/04/2024 08:32

Morning all,

Sorry to everyone that are in stalls at the moment. Hope things start moving again for everyone.

@Thebaldprimadonna great work losing a lb on holiday. Hope you had a nice time 😊

I had my bonus dose from my first 5mg on Friday, and have a full 5mg pen to start this Friday. I think I will move to 7.5mg if it comes in stock in the next 3 weeks, only reasoning is I've lost 4lbs while on the 5mg pen, and I had expected more. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable expectation though. I think if I loose another 4lb on my second pen as well, I'd want to see what 7.5mg can do.

What are you thinking?

ObsidianTree · 22/04/2024 08:38

I have been reading on the reddit Mounjaro sub and I do feel sorry for the Americans struggling to find supplies of their meds. Looks like they are looking around daily for supplies and driving all over to find their meds. I am happy the UK have the buy online option so we don't have to drive around looking for meds. I really hope the UK doesn't get the shortages that the US do! I wonder if the supply issues will ever be sorted in the US?

I really feel ready to move to 7.5. I am finding that I really feel almost no impact every other day on 5mg, which is weird.

Rainbowl · 22/04/2024 08:49

Great losses @Thebaldprimadonna especially on holiday - so inspiring!

Wonkypictureframe · 22/04/2024 08:59

Brilliant losses, people. Well done @Thebaldprimadonna and @KeepingUndercover!

Losingmymind85 · 22/04/2024 09:02

I felt so awful on the bonus dose of the 2.5 (more like 3+) that I took an extra day in between doses to recover. I've just now split my 5mg pen dose and just done 2.5mg.
If anyone is thinking of doing this, remember to count the clicks to 30 as you're winding OUT as the clocks don't occur when you're pressing the purple button in.
I know a lot of you will roll your eyes at me as it's so massively obvious, but my menopausal brain no longer works properly!
Oh and as long as it's kept in the fridge, the 30 day expiration doesn't count. Pen expiration date is what's printed on the pen so my 5mg pen will last 8 weeks if I keep doing 2.5mg
