Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I’m halfway through week 3. Can feel it wearing off quicker and the food noise returning. I have the 5mg in my basket ready for payday Friday.
my injection day is Wednesday so will do 4th dose and the the extra one (if I can)

It has been approved by NICE for type 2 diabetes as of 20 March.

That is according to the diabetes uk website.

It's why I asked my GP for it and had it approved.

The approval for weight loss on nhs is still under review though I believe.

Yes, it was approved last month for diabetes on the NHS, I believe partially because some of the other medicines were in short supply! It wasn't approved last year when they first applied and I think the pens we're using now were manufactured in the hope it would get approved last year.

It was approved here for weight loss by the MHRA last year, but not on NHS.

I must admit, I've read the evil thread and taken it as entertainment as to how stupid / prejudiced / arrogant some people can be. Didn't bother replying as you can't argue with stupid can you so let them be.

As for me, I've caved in and bought collagen powder. Omg it is rank 🤢

Please tell me how you take this shit supplement before I bin 50 quid worth of stuff!

I got Nutrition Geeks collagen powder & it is pretty tasteless. I dissolve in herb tea 2x per day.
i think it working because my nails are better

Baldatbirth · 21/04/2024 17:17

Haven't checked in for a little while. Week 3 currently form me. I am looking forward to going up a dose. No weight loss at the moment which is slightly disappointing but things are fitting and feeling so much better for me.

I've noticed some very odd things too which I won't share but all very positive. I am hoping I will start to lose weight at some point though.

GlueNoGlue · 21/04/2024 17:24

A bit TMI here but has anyone else got really weird tasting burps? I’m five weeks in and today I keep burping and it tastes like boiled eggs. I haven’t eaten eggs in weeks because the thought of them makes me queasy and now it’s all I can taste!

Yeah this a thing sadly, I get it sometimes. It is grim. I had it a few days running this week, finally found some of my DH's heartburn and acid reflux meds (over the counter stuff) and that seemed to stop it dead. It was Nexium Control I used.

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/04/2024 17:35

So I’m only 4 days post my first injection and I do think I have some appetite suppression, not sure if it’s placebo effect or not.

but today I was meeting friends for lunch and normally I’d eat breakfast and then because lunch isn’t until 1pm (ordering, so eating time probably past 1:30) I’d normally have a slice of toast or something at about 11am.

but today i didn’t want breakfast, went for a long walk, came home and had a boiled egg at 10:30, was fine with not eating lunch till 1:30. I’ve had a tuna toastie for lunch (and side salad) and normally I’d be starving by now and cooking a meal. I don’t currently feel hungry and am planning on probably having a couple of ryvita with cheese later on but nothing else.

I saw on TikTok (so may or may not work), but when you get the sulphur burbs, pour a glass of water, add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, then quickly drink the whole glass through a straw (to protect your teeth from the acid).
Worth a try.

@MelissaLouRocks I tried the green juice today. Forgot how celery it was! It's pretty gross. But will drink it and keep making them as I filled my fridge with all the ingredients 😂

Bless you, thanks for trying it out for me!!

In other news, they're letting me out! 🎉🍻
Probably won't be 'til they've done my scripts about 3 weeks on Tuesday, but at least I can get home to my dog, no snoring, or banana fights at 3am (whole other story!)

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. 💐

AgathaMystery · 21/04/2024 19:15

@MelissaLouRocks this is great news! Hope you get home to your own bed tonight x

guestusername · 21/04/2024 19:17

Lovely news @MelissaLouRocks

I have found out the hard way that spicy food does not agree with me. So quite why they found it necessary to put sciracha (sp) sauce on my chicken gyros wrap today is beyond me! Needless to say, I didn’t eat it and had two pints of cider and a banana instead 😂 I feel like I’ve had about 5 pints though!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 21/04/2024 19:26

I am absolutely starving this evening. I had my fourth 2.5 on Friday evening so normally by now the appetite suppression is the highest, but I'm not feeling much at all! Roll on Friday so I can try a higher dose (am going to try and get a dose and a half from the last of my 2.5 pen before starting 5 the following week).

QuiltedHippo · 21/04/2024 19:29

Read that thread earlier and cringed through it - a weird mix of "try harder fatties" and "no weight loss ever works better not bother", the covid stuff did make me eye roll. Good job we don't care about those opinions!

I get bad heartburn, used to get a bit and get it a lot on MJ, Nexium Control handles the heartburn but then gives me lots of wind for the next 24 hours!

Would rather that then the heartburn though.

lurkylurk · 21/04/2024 19:58

Good news! Were they fighting over a banana or with bananas????

I am at the same point as you and have struggled today.
I can reorder Thursday which is payday!

Are you going to do the 2.5 plus some extra on this Thursday?

I am. On third week and inject on a Wednesday.
Today has been a write off for me and I am disappointed in myself. Really need to be back on track tomorrow.

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/04/2024 20:13

How many weeks do people generally find 5mg enough? I know the 7.5mg has only just become available but will everyone need it or will people be able to stay at 5mg?

So pleased you're headed home 🙂

You simply must tell us about the banana fight, it's practically the law.

ObsidianTree · 21/04/2024 20:45

Glad you're able to go home @MelissaLouRocks

@CormorantStrikesBack I only really found it worked well for about 2 weeks. After that I felt I could move up, but no 7.5mg so with 5mg for a second month. Will go up to 7.5mg on my next pen

OP posts:
Soukmyfalafel · 21/04/2024 20:50

Glad to hear it all went well for you MelissaLouRocks

Intrigued about 3am banana fights. Sounds almost fun!

After an awful morning because of my son's meltdowns I've had a good day, but appetite definitely returning after my second 5mg jab on Wednesday. I didn't over do it today despite being out for a meal. I do feel a big thinner - a dress that felt a bit tight fits better now.

I'm very worried about not being able to access the 7mg this week and leaving it late. I last ordered from asda on 26th, so I'm going to ring tomorrow and order another 5mg if there is nothing concrete and use every 5 days with 5th dose. Is there anyone who has been on 5mg around 4 weeks now - is utterly still working for you? I still have 3 5mg left of this pen. I'm only ordering this one now as I don't want to leave it too long between reordering.

FlappyFish · 21/04/2024 21:25

5 is still working for me. I’ve had 5 doses of it after doing 5 of the 2.5. I have not gone higher for my next order and I will play it by ear really.

WannabeHealthier · 21/04/2024 21:31

Has anyone in the UK managed to watch last month’s Oprah Winfrey weight loss special? I’ve read about it and would like to watch it but not sure where I can watch. Apparently it’s on Hulu in the US
