Have I chosen the wrong wedding dress?!

I'm having a wedding dress freak out.

I bought this mermaid style wedding dress, at the time I loved it...now I'm looking back on the pictures and panicking that I look fat. The more I Google my body shape (rectangle) - the more the Internet tells me to avoid mermaid dresses.

Honest opinions please on whether you like it or not? Do i look fat? Does it suit me?! Aghhhhh. Thanks x

I think it looks gorgeous on you - I've seen thousands of wedding dresses and brides in my time. It's a little tight, but you know that, and that can be fixed by a good seamstress. The colour is perfect against your skin tone.

IncessantNameChanger · 25/07/2024 21:21

It's a lovely dress and looks lovely on you. Something I'd going on around your waist as it looks a bit like,a top and skirt with the line in the middle but it might be creased. Your not too fat and there's no back fat!

It's a,stunning dress for your figure. Enjoy

Adhdmumofadhdtwins · 25/07/2024 21:21

The train is utterly gorgeous too. That's a really, really special dress op.

You don't look fat you have a lovely figure but it isn't lying right across your hips.

Agreed.

Vebar2020 · 25/07/2024 21:23

I'm sure it will be very chilly...but im prepared to freeze 😂..possibly buy a shrug to go over during the day. Thank you x

It's lovely! It does look tight, but all brides lose weight before the wedding, so I'm sure it will be fine. You can smooth out the back fat by getting someone to straighten the first two fingers on each hand, insert them straight down in the centre of your back under the dress, then sweep them out to the sides. This will move the excess across your back.

Thank you - I think it is my belly hanging over 🫣. 2 kids, I'll say no more. Hopefully diet and shapewear will fix it

It is beautiful OP. I think it is perfect on your figure and once you see it with all the accessories, your wedding hair and make up done, your venue as the backdrop and all the other wedding finery, I think you will love it all over again. Enjoy the planning and have a lovely wedding day when it comes.

littlestrawberryhat · 25/07/2024 21:30

It’s beautiful, you look beautiful and you have great arms and a beautiful hourglass figure you lucky thing!!

The dress looks like it's probably a size too small.

I agree with this. You don’t look fat because you aren’t fat. But the dress looks a bit too small.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 25/07/2024 21:34

I love it, I don't think you have a rectangle body shape though as you definitely have a defined waist. It gives you a lovely shape, I'd keep it!

Also, I think its normal to have temporary "dress regret". I remember feeling the same about my dress shortly after I had put a deposit down, the dress is a similar shape to yours. I took pictures even though the shop lady warned me not to. She said so many brides take photos and then fret over how they look in the photo, they forget how they felt when they tried the dress on. I went back to try it on again and felt amazing and reassured I had picked a dress that suited me.

Thank you - really reassuring to know you felt the same, and loved the dress again! Wishing I hasn't taken the pics now 🤦‍♀️ xx

You have a lovely figure. It really suits you. A little alteration to make it bigger and it will be perfect.

That’s stunning. You look lovely in it.

mrsm43s · 25/07/2024 21:43

It's a touch tight, but you've already addressed that.

Apart from that, it's a lovely dress, and you look great in it.

Not sure what you mean by a "rectangle" body shape, I'd say you're somewhere between hourglass and pear shaped, which is about as far from a rectangle as you can get!

Singlemum90 · 25/07/2024 21:45

CurlsLDN · 25/07/2024 21:05

Why on earth are you describing yourself as a rectangle body shape?! You clearly have an hourglass figure.

the dress looks lovely, you don’t look fat, this is just normal nerves. If you can go back and try it on again to settle your mind either way

This! You look beautiful too 😍

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 25/07/2024 21:47

It's a cute dress and you look nice, but yeah as has been said it looks a bit small. You have a while to lose maybe 10 pounds though yeah - if you want to, you said you might lose weight? OR you can get a bigger size? Smile

And yeah it sits weird around the belly. Probs because it's a bit small-ish.

Re; the February wedding. My niece had a February wedding this year, and it was lovely. Chilly (6-7 C) but sunny and beautiful, with snowdrops everywhere. Made for lovely wedding pics! Smile

HowIrresponsible · 25/07/2024 21:48

Vebar2020 · 25/07/2024 21:09

I've paid in full but wedding isn't until Feb next year

In that case you have time to lose weight. I'm really sorry to say but the dress is too small.

It's too tight across your hips and too tight at the back. You can try and get it altered or just lose a few pounds so it will sit better.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 25/07/2024 21:49

It's gorgeous and you look great in it.
If you wanted to try smoothing things out. John Lewis are really good at helping you get the right shapewear, light control ones shouldn't be uncomfortable. It's amazing how much it can smooth out. Maybe try the dress on again wearing that, It might do the trick without too many alternations.

If its a Feb wedding, you could get a little angora or fluffy shrug - just for the cold parts of the day. Congratulations.

beansgreen · 25/07/2024 21:50

It's a size or two too small across the back, and over tummy/hips.
