Opinions on dresses.

Can I have some honest opinions on these dresses please?

I am unfortunately limited in choice by a) budget b) time to wedding which means I need to buy off the peg and c) my size which means not a huge amount of choice.

Everything I look at I hate and feel I look enormous. No dress is going to hide my weight however so I recognise that’s a self-image issue rather than a dress issue but it means I’m finding it really hard to find a dress.

One of these my bridal party love and think I should go for but they like me too much to tell me I look like a hippo squeezed into a dress so I’m asking honest opinions on here instead. (Dons hard hat)

Thank you!

For starters, you are not a hippo! Dress choice, deffo number 2. I really dislike the style of 1 and think that the gathering of the dress on one side is tacky and unflattering. Number 2 suits your shape wonderfully and I think you could be very confident that you look smashing in that one.

Ikeameatballs · 17/11/2019 18:04

I much prefer the first dress. I think that the first gives you a lovely waist and shows off your figure. It also looks more expensive. The second is a bit matronly imo.

Dress one.
I love the ruching on it and with the girl it looks beautiful. I also like the skirt on it and how it falls. Detail on the top half of the dress and a simply unfussy bottom half.
I think the style of dress one suits you better.
Beautiful dress.

Ikeameatballs · 17/11/2019 18:04

Ha, completely different views in the first two posts! This thread may not help you to decide!

emilybrontescorsett · 17/11/2019 18:05

Girl=veil, though if you want to have a girl with you then go for it!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 17/11/2019 18:09

Dress one!

MadameJosephine · 17/11/2019 18:10

I agree the ruching on the first dress is much more flattering. Although I do like the lace on the second, the shape of it doesn’t suit you as much.

Oh and you are definitely not a hippo! Congratulations on your wedding, I hope you feel like a beautiful bride on the day 💐

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/11/2019 18:10

Pic number 2

userabcname · 17/11/2019 18:11

I prefer dress one. You look lovely and not at all like a hippo!

PatchworkElmer · 17/11/2019 18:11

I prefer dress 1.

user1483387154 · 17/11/2019 18:11

dress 1

GreenTulips · 17/11/2019 18:12

I think 1 has dated now, 2 is very nice on you and looks lovely.

Indella · 17/11/2019 18:20

The veil I am wearing in each photo isn’t the one I would have on the day, just one to try and see it all together. Dress 1 would also have the cups taken in as it’s too big there and possibly have cap sleeves added as I hate my shoulders although bridal party keep telling me not to do this.

I like the second one with the lace neckline 😊 congratulations x

ilyjccs · 17/11/2019 18:25

Definitely number 1

Ellmau · 17/11/2019 18:25

I like dress 2 better, and think it's more flattering.

feelingsinister · 17/11/2019 18:31

I like dress two, you look lovely. The lace is gorgeous and I don't love the back on dress one.

Rattysparklebum · 17/11/2019 18:31

I like number 1, it elongates your body which is flattering, the other dress cuts you in half and makes you look shorter and broader.

IDrinkAndISewThings · 17/11/2019 18:36

The second one. Lace work around the neckline draws the eye up the body to your face. The ruching on the second dress draws the eye to your waist. Neither makes you look larger or smaller than the other, but I think the second is just prettier and classier.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 17/11/2019 18:40

IMO the second dress with the round lace neckline is least flattering. It makes your arms look larger than dress one and your waist look thicker.

I also think your body image is influenced by seeing too many impossibly thin celebrities. A lot of us lose sight of what real women in the real world look like.

What I would say is that for your wedding you deserve and need to wear a dress that you love and feel confident in, whether it's a traditional wedding style, or a different type of dress altogether. Don't wear something that saps your confidence on the basis of conforming to the wedding industry's perceived norm. You could go for colour, or pattern and any shape that makes you feel special.

mnahmnah · 17/11/2019 18:43

I think dress 1 is the most flattering on you

Brideof2020 · 17/11/2019 18:56

Dress 1 - you look lovely. For me the style suits you better and the dress itself is nicer than dress 2. Im assuming photo 2 is the back of dress 1, its simple and elegant. And you don't need to add sleeves / straps.
The top of the second dress doesn't look great, could be the photo, but there's just 'something's not quite right about it, I think it's the shape of it and the neckline.

Ikeameatballs · 17/11/2019 19:02

I think that cap sleeves on dress one would look lovely

GoodGriefSunshine · 17/11/2019 19:17

Dress one. The asymmetric gathering is much more flattering on most figures but especially if you are wanting to create a waist. The straight across line of the second dress adds visual width (something none of us want!) and makes you look blocky.
