Can I have some honest opinions on these dresses please?

I am unfortunately limited in choice by a) budget b) time to wedding which means I need to buy off the peg and c) my size which means not a huge amount of choice.

Everything I look at I hate and feel I look enormous. No dress is going to hide my weight however so I recognise that’s a self-image issue rather than a dress issue but it means I’m finding it really hard to find a dress.

One of these my bridal party love and think I should go for but they like me too much to tell me I look like a hippo squeezed into a dress so I’m asking honest opinions on here instead. (Dons hard hat)

Thank you!

I like the shape of 1 and you can always add sheer sleeves to it. The horizontal line of lace in 2 is less flattering than the sweep.

Jayaywhynot · 17/11/2019 22:37

Dress one looks lovely & I kinda agree on the cap sleeves, iv seen it done on "say yes to the dress " , my favourite show 😘

marmiteloversunite · 17/11/2019 22:40

Definitely dress1. Dress two seems to be too high cut on the neckline.

allaboutthequestions · 17/11/2019 22:44

Numbe 1! It really accentuates your waist which is a lot more flattering then the second one in my opinion, hope you have a fab wedding xx

Majorcollywobble · 17/11/2019 22:46

Your bridal party are right - you don’t need cap sleeves in dress number 1 . It’s a lovely flattering shape and suits you .
Dress 2 isn’t flattering to yours curves . It looks cheap by comparison .
You are certainly not overweight !
By the time the cups in dress 1 have been altered it will be perfect . You will look and feel fab on your big day x

Missymare · 17/11/2019 22:46

Definitely dress 1 it’s so flattering on the waist and you are definitely not a hippo

Cuddling57 · 17/11/2019 22:47

Say yes to Dress 1 ! You look absolutely gorgeous in it.
I am also an expert from watching hours darling of 'Say Yes to the Dress' Wink
I would take the split view as a massive compliment.
Which dress makes YOU feel good?
Also google lots of images of brides of the same dress size as you (which is definitely NOT a hippo) and see what dress shapes suit other people which may give you a better view if you have a slight negative self image (haven't we all!).
Congratulations on your wedding, how exciting!

Ikeameatballs · 17/11/2019 22:48

Out of interest, which one did your bridal party prefer?

If you are not sure then I would go back and try them on again and perhaps look at slightly different dresses, eg if you prefer being a bit more covered up at the top then I’m sure you could find something with the flattering aspects of dress 1 but with something more demure around the chest.

NutterPotter · 17/11/2019 22:52

Dress 1 suits you so much more than dress 2. X. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding

Jenlyn682 · 17/11/2019 22:58

i Work in the bridal industry. #1 by far hands down my favorite!!!

Thatnovembernight · 17/11/2019 23:03

Dress 1

MollyHuaCha · 17/11/2019 23:04

Number 1

Fingermoose · 17/11/2019 23:11

Dress one. Love the ruching and the soft skirt. You definitely are nothing like a hippo!

IdblowJonSnow · 17/11/2019 23:13

Dress 1 by an absolute mile. You look fab in that dress.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Lizzyawilkinson51 · 17/11/2019 23:30

I love number 1 very flattering

WWlOOlWW · 17/11/2019 23:33

Dress 1. Very flattering.

Dress 2 seems to swamp you some how.

Bumfuzzled · 17/11/2019 23:37

No 1 looks beautiful. I love the way the back of it falls. No 2 I get the impression you are trying to cover yourself up. You don’t need to, you look fab and are far from hippo like Smile

RainbowMum11 · 17/11/2019 23:43

I totally think the first dress, the style really enhances your waist.
Beautiful.

peachgreen · 17/11/2019 23:46

You look lovely in them both but I think dress one suits you better.

Having said that, as a fellow "bigger" bride, if you're not happy, please keep looking. I panicked and settled and although I looked nice I'm gutted that I didn't find THE ONE and have regretted it ever since.

Slappadabass · 17/11/2019 23:50

You have a lovely figure, lovely curves! Definitely not a hippo!.

I like dress 1, compliments your shape and is very pretty!

Slappadabass · 17/11/2019 23:53

If your not happy with either, check out Curvissa, some lovely dresses that are very flattering for bigger women and so cheap!

Indella · 18/11/2019 00:32

My bridal party preferred dress 1.

I preferred dress 2 but only because it covers me up more. Well I actually preferred this dress 3 but everyone hated it so much I ruled it out.

Here’s another angle of dress 1. The boobs are not as on my face as it looks on the first pic. It’s actually the cups that are too big and come too high but will be altered.

My arms feel very exposed though so sleeves would be a must. I also tend to think strapless gowns look good on only the very slim. I’ve seen this dress however and I like the sleeves on this with the shape of dress 1 so might ask if they can add them.

Dress number one, it's really pretty.

If you really want your shoulders covered, you could wear a lace bolero with cap sleeves or a stole or something like that.

My sister made my dress and had a really hard time making cap sleeves (and she's an amazing dress maker).. It might not be the best solution.

I think you should go with the dress that makes you feel beautiful.
