Is this dress ok for an older bride?

ie: late 40s? Is it too much - too slinky, shoulders too big etc? Is it too low at the front?

I'm half madly in love with it and half worried it looks a bit daft on me. I don't want a traditional wedding dress but I don't know if this is a step too far. It's a non-church city wedding so no stomping through fields or anything Grin

The back is also low but I can't get a pic of it - I think it looks ok.

I am planning to lose about 10lbs or so and will get it adjusted if necessary.

I've not sorted underwear yet so excuse the slightly droopy top half. I've have another picture that shows the top straight on but it's a bit nips-ahoy so I'm not sure I want to post it!

It's a beautiful dress OP and you look stunning in it.

I Googled pale dancing shoes and one of the first results was the rhinestone heel ones which seemed to be the perfect colour so thought I would post. They are in the US though.

The satin ones are UK.

I bally love it! You look absolutely knock-out in it. Fabulous choice!

wanilamorty · 07/06/2019 18:59

It's gorgeous and you look amazing!

palahvah · 07/06/2019 19:03

Phenomenal.
I agree no weight loss - if you're worried about your tummy then just follow an anti-bloaty type diet the week before but until you mentioned it I just thought you looked fabulous and womanly.

Shetlandponyranger · 07/06/2019 19:04

Love it, especially the shoulders! You look fantastic

Catalicious · 07/06/2019 19:09

GORGEOUS

RedPandaFluff · 07/06/2019 19:13

Oh @masterfade the dress is absolutely beautiful and it looks fantastic on you! I'm so envious, I wish I'd worn something like that when I got married!

Nancydrawn · 07/06/2019 19:17

If you really want a vintage look, you can try scouting vintage stores (though the shoe sizes tended to be smaller then, so it can be hard to find).

There are retro-pastiche stores. Chelsea Crew does a good line for ModCloth: www.modcloth.com/shop/chelsea-crew. For that dress, I particularly like the There Goes Chic T-Strap.

Most high street shoe shops at the moment seem to be deeply invested in block heels, which could potentially also work. I'm not sold on these, but something in this vein: www.russellandbromley.co.uk/spritz/431872

It's gorgeous and glam, and you have a fab figure!

All it needs is a good structured bra. Great colour too!

speakfriendandenter · 07/06/2019 19:41

You look amazing! So glamorous, just how you should feel on your big day!

Susannach · 07/06/2019 19:52

You look incredible! I’m 26 and wouldn’t look half as good in that dress Envy Congratulations!

masterfade · 07/06/2019 19:52

You're all lovely, thank you so much. I think it's a very well-cut dress (although it needs 'a good press' as my grandma would have said) and it is far more flattering than I thought it would be.

You've boosted my confidence tons, and I'll come back and re-read this thread when I have my inevitable 'waaah, but I'm 47 and I have grey hair and a saggy neck!!!!' wobble(s) over the next year Grin

I've packed it up and put it under the bed in the spare room - it's not going back now!

I'm 35 and I'm getting married next year, and I would be overjoyed to have your figure OP. You have great structure and collarbones.

Put all together with hair and makeup you'll look fab.

Constantlurker · 07/06/2019 20:01

Holy crap that dress is amazing. You are a BABE!!!!

Iamneverfull · 07/06/2019 20:15

Yes its beautiful❤

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/06/2019 20:19

I absolutely love it! So vintage!

I would only say don't go with a boosting bra, the gown's a 1940s shape and it needs a natural bustline to look right.

Oh, and if I'm right and it's cut on the cross, it will rest on your tummy no matter how many pounds you lose. I suggest an old fashioned full slip underneath so that it skims your body.

Andcake · 07/06/2019 20:23

Lovely. Just needs great underwear 😀

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 20:27

Is this the back OP?

Everyone is right, btw, you wear it better than the model.

(Apols for headless photo - that’s how it was videoed.)

masterfade · 07/06/2019 20:32

Yes, that's the one george. Underwear is going to be a challenge Grin. The sash is lovely and it has a very small 'puddle' train as well.

I love me a slip mycat - it'll have to be just a half-slip though due to the back!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/06/2019 20:34

I like it even more now I've seen the back! Yes, a full slip might cramp your style a bit! 😆

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 20:36

Plenty of time to get a slip altered to fit the dress ...

I grew up seeing full slips in my mother’s wardrobe. Love them! Was terribly disappointed that they were considered old-fashioned by the time I was old enough to wear one.

masterfade · 07/06/2019 20:39

I actually have a full slip that came with a Boden wool shift dress I bought yonks ago. It's absolutely fab and I wear it under loads of things - it makes all the difference sometimes. Long live the slip, I say!
