Is this dress ok for an older bride?

ie: late 40s? Is it too much - too slinky, shoulders too big etc? Is it too low at the front?

I'm half madly in love with it and half worried it looks a bit daft on me. I don't want a traditional wedding dress but I don't know if this is a step too far. It's a non-church city wedding so no stomping through fields or anything Grin

The back is also low but I can't get a pic of it - I think it looks ok.

I am planning to lose about 10lbs or so and will get it adjusted if necessary.

I've not sorted underwear yet so excuse the slightly droopy top half. I've have another picture that shows the top straight on but it's a bit nips-ahoy so I'm not sure I want to post it!

I love it

HollySniffs · 07/06/2019 16:26

You look great OP. Looks classily retro 30s/40s to me ( that's when the shoulder thing started).

Congrats Thanks.

masterfade · 07/06/2019 16:26

loaf - it really is. I'm only on my second husband though Wink

Love it!

SoupDragon · 07/06/2019 16:28

I'm worried the shoulders are a bit Alexis Carrington

That is what I don't like about it.

Nothing wrong with it in general for an older bride though :)

ImpossibleNovelty · 07/06/2019 16:30

That dress is gorgeous and looks fantastic on.

spanishwife · 07/06/2019 16:31

I think it is STUNNINGGGGG. Very chic but also classic.

It fits you beautifully. Please don't worry about your body. All the people coming to your wedding (esp your fiance) loves you the way you are, they aren't going to see you as any more beautiful or lovely just because you lose weight. I wish brides didn't feel this pressure!

maidenover · 07/06/2019 16:32

Love it. I think whilst heels would probably work best, I don’t think stilettos are required so a low heel or a ‘chunkier’ type heel would be good and much easier to walk in!

masterfade · 07/06/2019 16:34

Ok so this is from the front and the shoulders look a little less frightening I think.

I REALLY apologise for the nipple action, as I said haven't sorted that yet. MN please delete if required!

Very old Hollywood. It’s beautiful!

Jolonglegs · 07/06/2019 16:35

OMG the dress is georgeous, and I wish I had a figure like yours. Go for it!

freshstartnewme · 07/06/2019 16:36

Very 1980's.

BarryBarryTaylor · 07/06/2019 16:37

I reckon you should wear your hair up (if you have long hair)
And I also second the poster who said a smaller heel or chunkier heel, nothing too stiletto like...

PineappleTart · 07/06/2019 16:37

Stunning dress, you have an amazing figure

mulberrybag · 07/06/2019 16:38

Absolutely beautiful, the right side of different and totally classy. I LOVE IT!
You can get long shapewear that might make you feel more comfortable about your tummy but it doesn't look anything like you think it does that's for sure!

Nancydrawn · 07/06/2019 16:38

Very Lauren Bacall and I love it.

Keep it. Looks beautiful. Agree decent underwear and no weight loss

Grumpbum123 · 07/06/2019 16:40

I like it except for the shoulders but it looks beautiful on your figure

SilentBob · 07/06/2019 16:41

You had me at the shoulders. I love it and it sounds like you do, too! You look fabulous!

I'm a hopefully (cos we haven't cooked t yet but we really should) soon to be bride at 42 and keep second guessing wtf I should wear so I know how you feel!

mamaoffourdc · 07/06/2019 16:43

It's beautiful - congratulations

IceQueenCometh · 07/06/2019 16:45

You don't need to lose weight. That's want Spanx are for. You look lovely

masterfade · 07/06/2019 16:46

Oh Nancydrawn, I think I love you Grin

Good tips re the chunkier heels, thanks all. I am resolutely a trainers-and-jeans type in normal life (hence why something so glam feels so odd I suppose) and can't face the idea of wobbling around on stilettos all day.

masterfade · 07/06/2019 16:48

silentbob - it shouldn't be so difficult really but it is! I didn't want white, didn't want strapless, didn't want big and floofy, didn't want lacey or beaded or flouncy, but also did want to look special...it's so hard to find something right!

Its utterly beautiful on you OP, all old hollywood glamour and vintage style. I love the shoulders as you have the figure to pull them off, my bulk would look horrendous with them but if you weren't too sure about them I am sure a dressmaker could have a look. I think it is beautiful as it is though

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 16:57

Fantastic dress and you look wonderful in it!

Where is it from?
