Hi all,
sorry, bit late today - digging out the school!

Met office are clearly pretty concerned about tomorrow night for the SW, and parts of Wales tomorrow night and have a severe weather advisory out

A front is due to cross over the areas concerned. exact extent of snowfall is not known yet and areas around the 'orange' warning areas should also take heed.

it is quite probably I think that the front will bring rain at first, turning to snow, which may be heavy and prolonged. Unfortunately it seems to me to be another of those 'marginal conditions for snow' type event.

if it comes off as the met office are warning it may, there will be significant disruption to travel and quite probably power supply. I would treat it as a 'prepare for the worst but hope for the best' situation.

fantastic news will be so much more comfy without icicles hanging from the shower!

totally stopped her in N london

Am I being a spoilsport to hope we get no more?

There's a good 4 inches in places. I've had enough.

Now its proper 'christmas card style' snowing here in south oxfordshire. very glad school was closed as it would have been finishing around now and would not fancy dragging two toddlers with me to the school.Think we might be off again tomorrow looking outside now.
My parents just flew to Cape Town/Mauritius for 2 weeks on MOnday

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 15:32

Just been outside for some fresh air. It definitely feels warmer for now anyway and theres a good old thaw of all the old and new snow . no snow since about 12

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 15:58

TDWP - even I wouldn't mind at least a break from it for a few days!

Still snowing here, very heavily now in great big lumps.I've got to go to the next village shortly,to collect dd1 and her cousin from orienteering. The lanes here are very icy-I'm not looking forward to it.

Am ringing dh,who works in Leicester,to tell him not to leave it too late to get home.

Right, off to try and get the car off the drive.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 16:08

crumbs, take it easy FG - post when you get back!

still snowing in Warwickshire too.

petunia · 13/01/2010 16:27

Take it easy out there (and anyone else venturing out), it's getting icy out there.
We've had sleety stuff from about 10am-ish and then bits started melting. We had a slight burst of 'proper' snow (possibly from the same cloud that FG's under at the moment!) on the way home from DDs school about 1/2 an hour ago but it now actually all seems to have stopped! And now it's all going to freeze and there'll be more fun and games on the school run tomorrow!
On a positive note, the council seem to have put some grit down at the end of the cul-de-sac we live in. Cynical me thinks it's because we're supposed to have a rubbish collection (our 1st since Christmas Eve as they couldn't do it last week because of the snow) tomorrow and I don't think they want to leave it another week.

uglymugly · 13/01/2010 17:22

There's more precipitation coming through from the SW, currently in the channel and over the Channel Islands. I can't quite figure out where it will hit the south coast (but presumably the west country at least) or whether it'll be rain or snow. There doesn't seem to be much indication about this area on the Met Office website. It's more clearly seen on the www.raintoday.co.uk/ website.

I went out today - it was nice to walk in the fresh snow that had fallen overnight, but still a bit dodgy in places where the snow had been trodden down.

teenyweenytadpole · 13/01/2010 17:31

So...any bets on what will happen tomorrow? I'm in Gloucs and it's been snowing lightly but steadily all day. Forecasts all say no more snow but I am not sure I believe them!

FuriousGeorge · 13/01/2010 17:55

Thanks for keeping tabs on me.We got there and back without incident, but the snow is settling on the roads now,so don't know what it'll be like tomorrow.

Petunia,we got a bin collection today,it should have been last Friday, and they've broken my bin.I'm glad to hear you've had some grit put down though.

LunarSea · 13/01/2010 19:55

Stopped here now, but already below freezing and total cloud cover, so I wouldn't bet against some more before morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 20:33

teenyweeny, I think tomorrow will be a respite day. god time to clear the drains before heavy rain on saturday.

perhaps a little sleety snowy stuff tonight, hopefully nothing too bad in the way of accumulations. watch out for ice, both ordinary and black.

OYBBK, please tell me no more for East Lancs?

We have had a white world for almost 4 weeks now, am heartily fed up!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 20:49

perhaps a little light stuff tonight? perhaps a bit of light rain or sleet on friday then I think you will be ok for a few days.
chance to breathe!

ok, logging off now. headachy. might have gone a bit overboard with the whole shovelling snow lark today. again. becoming a worrying addiction!
