Hi all,
sorry, bit late today - digging out the school!

Met office are clearly pretty concerned about tomorrow night for the SW, and parts of Wales tomorrow night and have a severe weather advisory out

A front is due to cross over the areas concerned. exact extent of snowfall is not known yet and areas around the 'orange' warning areas should also take heed.

it is quite probably I think that the front will bring rain at first, turning to snow, which may be heavy and prolonged. Unfortunately it seems to me to be another of those 'marginal conditions for snow' type event.

if it comes off as the met office are warning it may, there will be significant disruption to travel and quite probably power supply. I would treat it as a 'prepare for the worst but hope for the best' situation.

Has snowed nearly constantly since 2pm yesterday and....not even 1mm of ground coverage. I know it's awesome living here in the summer etc but could we just have a little bit of everyone elses winter fun, living at sea level sucks! (Oh but no school 'cos the teachers all live out of the village)

LIZS · 13/01/2010 08:52

5cm more here and still falling. dh got kids to school, left them there then it announced it was closed 10 mins later ! How long would you leave it to collect (abotu 25 min walk)?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/01/2010 08:52

Well you were right as usual!

We've got a couple of inches in N London and it's forecast to snow lightly through to mid afternoon.

Trying to decide if I can face treking to school and preschool or if I'll just call my own snow day.

teddymummy · 13/01/2010 09:07

Falling steaily here in Oxon and school/nursery closed again.

NoahAndTheWhale · 13/01/2010 09:20

No snow in Beds at 6:30 am - it has been snowing for a bit now and covered up the slush that was there.

Wonder how long it will go on for.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 13/01/2010 09:29

We have snow in Liverpool and it is still snowing but very small flakes.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 13/01/2010 09:38

Ok so now it's heavy with bigger flakes! Pushing the pram to school was hard enough this morning and i've got to go back at 11.45 and 3.10!

OliviaMumsnet · 13/01/2010 09:44

Snowy sleet in E herts

ChickensLoveMarmite · 13/01/2010 09:48

Been snowing here in south derbyshire since around 7am. Now have a good covering of 2 inches on top of the ice. Lethal out there.

RustyBear · 13/01/2010 09:49

Light but continuous snow here in Wokingham - forecast to continue till about 5 o'clock. The school I work at is open, but the head is planning to close early, probably 2pm (mostly, I think, because the infant school is closing early & parents won't want to come out twice or hang around)

LunarSea · 13/01/2010 09:51

snowing heavily in Warwickshire. Probably about 3 inches so far and no signs of it stopping.

PestoBlizzardMonster · 13/01/2010 09:53

Snowing heavily here on outskirts of Brighton, can't believe it's so thick!

oopsandbabycoconut · 13/01/2010 10:09

It has finally stopped in Wilts now, nearly 15 hours after it started, we hae about 6-7inches. looking on raintoday.co.uk the front appears to be moving faster now it has gone over us .

petunia · 13/01/2010 10:14

Morning from a snowy Leicester.
I think it started snowing here about 6.30 this morning and for such tiny flakes, has produced quite a covering. The slush that was about on the side roads froze last night, so now they're lethal.
I just saw on the BBC website that it's going to get colder again after the weekend with one site I go on (netweather), saying we'll have more snow next Tuesday (although I realise that could change between now and then!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 10:29

our school opened but buses very very late - I stopped and helped clear paths round the school before coming home. one still hadnt arrived (poor kids)

It is looking more likely I think that after a brief 'milder' interlude it is setting itself up to return to the conditions we've had past few weeks.

Going to have fab muscles by the end of thi

Been snowing all morning in Kent

still at it

I thought this was just a little finale from the weather Gods, but is it going to get worse again?

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 10:58

arrghh I have a hospital apt in guildford next tuesday that i've been waiting ages for and I want to be able to get there! I wonder how many thousands of apts have been lost in last three weeks!

oopsandbabycoconut · 13/01/2010 11:04

I need it to thaw by Monday please, I have a flight to catch to the warmth of Sydney!

LIZS · 13/01/2010 11:32

Easing up now , sky much brighter

arionater · 13/01/2010 11:38

The snow has reached Cambridge! Quite light at the moment though, and last week's snow has pretty much completely gone so I'm not sure that it will settle. Very accurate of OYBBK to say that it would reach further east than predicted!

thegrammerpolicesic · 13/01/2010 12:01

Turning drizzly here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 12:07

I'm happy, I have all the paths I've done clear again (not that I'm obsessed or anything...)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2010 12:10

oh blimey, have read that it is drizzling in parts and freezing on contact with roads. Beware.

It's been snowing out near Melton Mowbray since about 8.30,and is still steadily coming down.It is treacherous underfoot and dd1 slipped over twice in our 200ft walk to the bus stop. When the bus came,it braked and skidded a few feet before it stopped,so I was glad I'd made the dd's stand well back from the road [no pavement there].

Hi Petunia

FuriousGeorge · 13/01/2010 12:46

Forgot to say hi to you OYBBK.[on another subject completely,I have bitten the bullet and rung up a chap about sorting out my bathroom.I then rang dh and told him,and he sounded quite relieved.I thought he'd get all precious and huffy, but no.Why didn't he just say he didn't want to do it?It would have saved us so much time and money.]
