Storm Darragh

winds of 80mph are predicted to hit parts of Ireland and the UK over Friday and Saturday. I’m north wales and we’re looking at winds of around 72mph on Saturday according to the met office. Lots of local events have been cancelled. Anyone else potentially affected by the storm?

I have never driven in 70mph winds but I’m guessing it’s very much not advisable?

You may be in the eye of the storm for a bit

Might go and walk the dog while it's still! (Not sure he'd appreciate it right now as he's snoring away!)

NoWordForFluffy · 07/12/2024 05:31

It's back.

Might be for @Newdoggo too as we're on the border of West Lancs.

North Somerset in a village near Bristol Airport. Woke up at 430am with strange sounds in the house. Worked out it was the internal bedroom door rattling. Not sure why? Howling wind outside and I'm feeling quite anxious now. Would like to go back to sleep but the sound of the wind is quite concerning so listening to the radio for distraction. Bristol Airport has cancelled/delayed all flights until this afternoon. My fences came down in Storm Bert. They were only repaired 3 days ago and hoping they stand the test of Storm Darragh. I can recommend someone who did my fences and is trustworthy. The village market has been cancelled tomorrow. I was supposed to be getting my garden tools sharpened - blunt secateurs may be my legacy of Storm Darragh! Wishing everyone well in the North Somerset/Bristol areas.

Yep think it's heading back now - my dogs haven't even been out for a pee, they are so lazy 😂

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 07/12/2024 05:41

Morning! It's still gusting very strongly outside. No let up. I woke up a few times during the night. Power on but it's a bad one! Co. Cork.

Ryanair haven’t cancelled and the BRS to DUB flight will depart at 6.05.

I wouldn’t want to be on that right now!

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 05:54

Chucking it down now.
Cat still spooked.

JimRoyle · 07/12/2024 05:56

Sorry to jump on this thread but I’m trying to decide whether to travel from Newcastle to Liverpool today (whole family) for a family do. My gut says no but worried about letting others down. Do you think overcautious?

Hope those of you in red areas stay safe xxx

poopoobarneymcgrew · 07/12/2024 05:59

Wind is fierce just outside Belfast!

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 06:06

Red zone gusts of 79mph just now they say. We sleep downstairs but there's something banging around outside which I'm not going to investigate. Guess we'll all have to wait for daylight now.

JustSaltPlease · 07/12/2024 06:09

South Wales here and the wind woke me up nearly every hour. It's horrific and very scary!

khaitai · 07/12/2024 06:12

Really can't wait for it to stop now, I've barely slept. We're in the red zone and at the top of a hill. Our road gets very windy as it is but this is something else. It's so loud and relentless.

Mirrorxxx · 07/12/2024 06:17

Anglesey on the coast and not slept. So loud and it feels like the house is shaking

BeastAngelMadwoman · 07/12/2024 06:19

Gusts of over 90 where I am. Less than two hours sleep and have given up trying now. The house next door has scaffolding on and a huge plank of it just flew off into the road

PandoraSox · 07/12/2024 06:21

South Wales here. Very windy, but not as bad as storm Eunice when I could feel the house shake.

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 06:21

Holyhead just recorded 92mph. Penmaenmawr 96 mph. Power cuts in Anglesey now.

BraveBlueDuck · 07/12/2024 06:21

Just received an emergency alert in Welsh.

I'm in the Midlands

Perhaps the whole UK is getting them, or at least places in a weather warning

Greeneyes80 · 07/12/2024 06:22

In South Wales in a red area, its truly awful. Getting anxious to be honest, I really don't want a power cut and my DH work has said they do expect him to walk 25 minutes to get in later on this morning! He doesn't drive and I'm not going to drive him and risk us all... it's all very stressful. My 2 DC were up frightened in the night too.

Where do you find that info, justasking?

nannynick · 07/12/2024 06:30

A personal weather station with wind data near Anglesey. www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/IHOLYH16/graph/2024-12-7/2024-12-7/daily

exLtEveDallas · 07/12/2024 06:51

West Midlands here and only in a yellow warning area, but I've just opened the back door and nearly had it taken off by the wind! It's a lot worse than I thought it would be.

We have relatives in Holyhead, so I really hope they are staying huddled up inside today.

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 06:55

@JimRoyle I wouldn't travel today.
You'd be driving into it, and Liverpool is in the red weather warning area with gusts of 60-70mph all day.
If nothing else, stopping at the services part way will probably drown you/blow you off your feet. 🤕

ImRonBurgandy · 07/12/2024 06:58

Well the first flight of the day into Belfast has just left from Glasgow - let's see what happens. We have to leave for the airport by 8.

Bluebellied · 07/12/2024 07:01

I’m supposed to be on Stansted to Dublin this morning… am feeling quite unsure about it. Flights seem to be taking off. It’s very windy here, woke me up several times. Also worried about drive to airport! I don’t mind flying but I am not keen on turbulence and would freak if they have to attempt several landings.

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 07:01

North Wales storm watch forwarded the information on FB.

Reading local info trees down on various roads, which won't be attended to until later so roads closed. Power cuts on parts of the island too.

A5 shut at Treborth, Bangor, tree down. Also Porthmadog, Criccieth. Useful page for us.
