Carefully not putting the storm name in the thread title yet! If it didn't get named, it would make things confusing down the line. However, it looks very likely that Storm Henk will arrive on Saturday. An early heads up as it will probably be another high volume travel day.

At the moment, it looks like it rapidly deepens just to the west of Ireland, bringing some very nasty gales over Ireland and Irish sea neighbouring areas, before these gales transfer eastwards. Looking at the shape of the storm I think there's potential for some short lived severe winds over a small area

Blizzards possible over higher ground in Scotland, heavy rain in places.

Will update as and when I can. In the meantime, take care with todays Storm Gerrit.

Thanks. Gerrit is smashing the NE coast of Scotland - flooding and trees falling down everywhere.

Thankfully we still have power, but it feels Arwen-esque!

Thankfully, yes, things look calmer and colder into the New Year.

@OhYouBadBadKitten is it looking as bad as Gerrit on Saturday, do you know?

Looking at the new storm, it won't be the wind that clobbers us but more rain. It's a very deep depression 🙈. Sunday being the worst.

Delightful 😞

Chin up crackers that for North Wales.

Son left Leeds at 7pm, thunder and lightning, hail was awful. He left it all behind until he left the m56 for the A55 and ran into our nasty windy weather which is still blowing hard.

We're travelling early tomorrow morning, South to North. Atm it looks like this might be a good window of weather before the next assault - yes? 🙏🏻

I'm not far!

Looking forward to OYBBK's prediction of DRY weather in the new year. Seems relentless at the moment! Hope your son is safe and sound now.

Back in front of my laptop today.

Thankfully in terms of general winds, the weekends storm now doesn't look as fierce as Gerrit. It looks like there could be a fairly fierce squall line, with potential for some nasty short lived winds. Snow again for Scotland. Heavy rain for northern England with hill snow.

Ive included a snap shot from GFS which shows the cold front which I'm concerned about in terms of short lived nastiness. All the models are showing this feature, though the exact centre of the low differs some and therefore position and timing varies. However it won't pass through the SE until late tomorrow night into the first hours of Sunday.

Keep an eye on met office warnings, but I'd now expect them to consist mainly of rain or snow warnings and I'd now be surprised if it were named. Hopefully Henk can wait!

Potential for another named storm on Saturday 30th Dec.

Jakers kitten we're right in that squalls path. Second time this week. Buggrit 😡😡

Squall line impacts are likely to be greatest along the coast. Although the Met Office have a long time impact for the winds, generally in that area gusting up to around 50mph, with possibly much stronger squally winds as the cold front goes through.

Potential for another named storm on Saturday 30th Dec.

It is certainly all the fun for us right now! A busy weekend’s travel too.

Apologies for the sidebar: OYBBK is it worth starting a new thread on the freeze reported for Northern Europe in Jan (on sky news today)? I have a vested interest in that I’ve booked a few days in southern Spain at the end of Jan and am wondering if we will have a repeat of the awful weather seen there in recent years.

Thanks. We are currently en route from Nw to midlands. DS is making the journey tomorrow so fingers crossed he will miss the worst of it.
