Stormy middle of week next week - 11th/12th April

Been taking a bit of a breather from forecasting while the weather has been pretty benign. But it does look as though there's a reasonable chance of some very wet and very, very windy weather in the middle of the week next week. It's too early to talk about worst affected areas, other than western coastal areas at the moment look set to see the worst of the winds.

So this warmth and sunshine is just teasing us then!

Noisenuisance101 · 07/04/2023 16:25

Kitten has spoken! I shall be following…

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2023 20:42

Make the most of the warm weather. Some of the models look very wild on Wednesday now.

Models continue to show some very strong winds over Tuesday night into Wednesday in the west and then transferring elsewhere. Exact location and speed have yet to be nailed down. There is potential for gusts of 60-70mph in the parts of the south, perhaps even inland for a time.
Keep a close eye on met office forecasts and warnings.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/04/2023 11:20

Thanks for this, kitten!

justasking111 · 08/04/2023 11:36

Well the blossom will be set here thankfully.

QuintanaRoo · 08/04/2023 11:38

I’m meant to be away in the caravan next week, thinking of cancelling now.

Cookerhood · 08/04/2023 11:38

Any thoughts for next weekend? We have a family wedding (home counties, west of London!).

BernadetteIsMySister · 08/04/2023 11:40

We had a big storm here on Thursday evening 5pm onwards in the Berkshire/Surrey area. We had no weather alerts, did it catch weather people out? Grin

Cookerhood · 08/04/2023 11:41

Us too! We had thunder & a downpour at 5pm.

BernadetteIsMySister · 08/04/2023 11:46

Ds was at Thorpe Park, hailstones, thunder, lightning, horrific rain, when I picked him up the car park and local roads were flooded.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/04/2023 13:18

Oh good. Bin night.

Short thunderstorms generally would not be warned for, though they can be pretty dramatic for the location they happen in. It did look though it was a pretty lively storm though.

Don't cancel plans yet people! As I've said, theres a lot of uncertainty!! Its possible, looking at some outlooks that it might not actually develop at all. Or it might be really nasty.

Just keep aware and keep an eye on the met office.

Some of the models continue to show very windy/stormy weather across parts of the SW and NW Tuesday night into Wednesday.

20 minutes of torrential rain and huge hailstones in Southampton this afternoon. Nice of the weather to send us an amuse-bouche before it really kicks off tomorrow.
