Been taking a bit of a breather from forecasting while the weather has been pretty benign. But it does look as though there's a reasonable chance of some very wet and very, very windy weather in the middle of the week next week. It's too early to talk about worst affected areas, other than western coastal areas at the moment look set to see the worst of the winds.

The ano at the National Sailing Academy was reading gusts of 71kts at 12.40. No sailing today!!!

Crumbs. That's 82mph.

The Needles, which always reads way above everywhere else had a gust of 96mph. I really hope tourists stayed indoors.

Think there's going to be a lot of clearing up to do!

In the Cotswolds today, working outside on the edge of an incredibly windy valley. The wind howled and the rain was horizontal, then we had a very heavy hail storm. Even with a decent head of hair and my hood up, it stung! Then more rain. Gave up and came home. Everything is covered in mud.

My child is camping in Scotland right now 🤦‍♀️ not with me or anyone with any common sense. Wind gusts are over 100mph.

ooh YES Big jet tv, marvellous, thank you!

MIL's power's been flickering all day and has now gone out completely (Cornwall) so likely a tree down on the lines. Hope they get it back up soon!

Horrible here in Dublin. Wet and windy.

LBF2020 · 12/04/2023 19:22

Our 30+ foot eucalyptus came down, it's taken the power lines, fence, shed & chicken coop with it. Fortunately it fell away from the house and it kindly waited for us to get home from work so we could get the chickens out!
Uk power network said they were getting lots of calls, we are in south east.

On holiday in the Peaks at the moment, it’s been light rain on and off today but not that windy and some patches of sunshine in between. Funny enough our other option for this week was the New Forest and it looks like we made the right decision!

96mph wind gusts at The Needles (most western part of Isle of Wight) earlier today, It was a bit hairy at times this morning so that doesn't surprise me...

Bloody hell @LBF2020

Wind’s really picked up here over the last hour or so.

It's so sad when trees come down 😞

Awful here in south Devon, bin day tomorrow so lots of bins out and being blown around. I've also just seen I have a dead seagull in the garden being attacked by crows with feathers flying everywhere. Looks like a scene from a horror film.

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2023 22:41

I thought it had passed but awful here again in Cheshire just now!

Maple2023 · 12/04/2023 22:48

Seems to have dropped a lot colder too, I've put a blanket back on the bed

Sunshine and much calmer in Dublin this morning, wind only 10knots at the airport, 24 gusting 30 on the buoy int he module of the bay. Feels bitter though at only 4 degrees.

South coast also much calmer - Roches point lighthouse at edge of Cork harbour was 48 gusting 60 yesterday afternoon, now only 10 knots and steady.

@justasking111 yes I feel the same, it was a beautiful tree. I feel sad knowing that's it and it's dead. Our tree surgeon said if we left it where it is it would still grow which is crazy! Sadly it's squished loads of stuff so will have to come down. But we will be using her for firewood once it's seasoned.
