WATER SHORTAGE--NOT MY NEIGHBOUR!

Scoobydoobydo · 12/08/2022 12:29

Neighbour is currently filled the childrens pool with water from her hosepipe.
It's not a piddly paddling pool for them to sit in. Oh no it's so blooming big it has steps to get into!
It was already full from the weekend but they didn't put the cover over it so it wasn't the cleanest. The kids wouldn't care would they? But Mummy had to empty the pool and refill just as we are being asked to be careful with water and some area are being declared a draught.
I'm sat here seething 😡
And no I won't say anything to her because it wouldn't make any difference

Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention the crucial point that the drought/hosepipe ban is a very similar (but not identical!) situation to covid lockdowns, hence my joke that there are going to be numerous threads on MN from posters with too little occupying their lives wanting to report their neighbour for not using water in a way they approve of.

We can run out of water for where we need it when we need it most. Crops, and livestock have already been impacted. Fire brigades in the counties surrounding me have been working non-stop because a fag end or bottle thrown from a car can set half the countryside alight.

If you want to be worked up, have a HUGE go at the water companies who are key ing 1/4of the water going to waste because of leaks they never repaired.

If instead if giving millions of pounds to shareholders etc…. They were actually doing what they are supposed to do - maintaining the whole system, then we wouldn’t need a hosepipe ban!!

Maybe it’s time to direct our anger towards the right people.

Just like when people are getting angry at other people going to A&E ‘when they shouldn’t do because you know we don’t have the resources’ blabla instead if getting angry at the government for not budgeting enough for the NHS and wasting billions on unusable PPE etc….

etc etc etc….

its more like 20% than 25% with just under 3billion litres lost daily on average

either way you cut it, its far to much. And the water company doing the best on this - Scottish Water. Something to be said for having public utilities

Justcallmebebes · 12/08/2022 20:27

Great as opposed to covid police we now have the water police. Why don't you turn your attentions to the blatant rip off of the water companies and their shareholders?

Cantanka · 12/08/2022 20:39

FFS.

so there is a water shortage and a finite amount of water in the reservoirs, such that when it is gone it is gone.
But water companies don’t fix leaks so let’s all waste more water on massive paddling pools so we all have to use standpipes in a few weeks.

I despair.

Cantanka · 12/08/2022 20:41

And it’s not the same thing as covid at all. Whether you agreed with them or not, he lockdowns were draconian measures which completely turned everyone’s lives upside down and caused real hardship. It is not remotely comparable to being asked not to use a hosepipe.

Creameggs223 · 12/08/2022 20:42

No hosepipe ban so she can do as she likes she's paying for it!

Maybe she now has the correct cleaning solution for it and it won't need refilling again now.

I used a hosepipe to water my plants this evening. I’d love someone to take me to task over it. I’ll happily show them my set up.
I’ve got three 200 litre water barrels in the garden. DH has connected an old electric water pump from our caravan to the hosepipe, fitted a switch and an electric plug. I drop the pump into a water barrel plug it into outside sockets and away I go. Perfectly safe.
DH is clever like that.

Rapidtango · 12/08/2022 21:05

Worriedatthistime, so just over £2 per day for fresh, clean, uncontaminated water to drink, shower, wash clothes, cook with and a myriad other things. And your waste water dealt with so it's not becoming contaminated and affecting the health and wellbeing of local people. Absolute bargain.,

Hersetta427 · 12/08/2022 22:41

Better than our next door neighbour who had a fucking bonfire yesterday! Either swelter with the windows closed or choke on the smoke. Arsehole.

You'll be the first to complain when water - and subsequently food- prices rise though, won't you?

No, because I’m not a knob, I live in the real world where people act reasonably
