WATER SHORTAGE--NOT MY NEIGHBOUR!

Scoobydoobydo · 12/08/2022 12:29

Neighbour is currently filled the childrens pool with water from her hosepipe.
It's not a piddly paddling pool for them to sit in. Oh no it's so blooming big it has steps to get into!
It was already full from the weekend but they didn't put the cover over it so it wasn't the cleanest. The kids wouldn't care would they? But Mummy had to empty the pool and refill just as we are being asked to be careful with water and some area are being declared a draught.
I'm sat here seething 😡
And no I won't say anything to her because it wouldn't make any difference

I suspect there's going to be many many of these threads over the coming days/weeks. These people are the same as those who 'wouldn't be told what to do' over Covid.

lickenchugget · 12/08/2022 12:33

You might use twice as much household water as her on a daily basis; no one knows.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 12/08/2022 12:46

As a livestock farmer who is feeding winter feed to our animals as we have no grass this infuriates me. When food prices rocket will people equate this with the weather, I doubt it.

Agree ^

Instead of being covid curtain twitchers they’re now the water police.

LondonQueen · 12/08/2022 12:50

There's no point getting yourself worked up over it, these people won't be told what to do yet will moan when food prices etc inevitably increase.

Is this your response to everything? Well maybe something that's unlikely to be the case, rather than believing your eyes?😒

Inklingpot · 12/08/2022 12:54

Here we go.

Report her to the special MN 101 hotline.

Bringon2023 · 12/08/2022 12:54

It would infuriate me too. I think it's selfish, people think they "deserve" to fill their pool because they are hot or "need" to use their hosepipe so their plants don't die in their garden. No one does anything for the greater good anymore - the pandemic proved that!

MineIsBetterThanYours · 12/08/2022 12:54

If you want to be worked up, have a HUGE go at the water companies who are key ing 1/4of the water going to waste because of leaks they never repaired.

If instead if giving millions of pounds to shareholders etc…. They were actually doing what they are supposed to do - maintaining the whole system, then we wouldn’t need a hosepipe ban!!

Maybe it’s time to direct our anger towards the right people.

Just like when people are getting angry at other people going to A&E ‘when they shouldn’t do because you know we don’t have the resources’ blabla instead if getting angry at the government for not budgeting enough for the NHS and wasting billions on unusable PPE etc….

etc etc etc….

Stoma · 12/08/2022 12:55

There isn't a finite supply of outrage. Plenty enough to go around.

Stoma · 12/08/2022 12:56

It's so annoying when people say 'what about, what about' and make things worse.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 12/08/2022 12:57

Maybe they won't bath this weekend to compensate?

Toosadtocomprehend · 12/08/2022 13:00

I am not a nosy neighbour and generally don’t care what people do but …..this would really piss me off! Is there a ban where you live?

Spinzy · 12/08/2022 13:00

I think sitting there seething is a bit much if you're not in a hosepipe ban area. She's not actually doing anything wrong if you're still allowed to use hosepipes.

Totally agree

British people are incredibly entitled and selfish. Can you not throw a dart at the side of her paddling pool through the night?

Katypp · 12/08/2022 13:06

This is the new going out during lock down thing isn't it? Poster seething in caps no less about someone else doing something that's a current topic when really what she is doing is congratulating herself on what a good person she is

IcedOatLatte · 12/08/2022 13:07

Inklingpot · 12/08/2022 12:54

Here we go.

Report her to the special MN 101 hotline.

Why would anyone do that when there are presumably ways provided by water companies to report breaches of drought orders. It doesn't appear that the OP is in one of those areas but why the stupid suggestion to a serious current issue?

CakeCrumbs44 · 12/08/2022 13:07

If there is a hosepipe ban, then you can report her if you so wish (it's a £1000 fine in my area if I remember correctly)

If there is no hosepipe ban, she is within her rights to do this with the water she pays for.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/08/2022 13:08

It’s too hot to care what others are doing, it won’t change them either.

Taketheweather · 12/08/2022 13:12

Report her to Greta Thunberg. And the Queen.

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/08/2022 13:34

Fill it with bubblebath while she's not looking then their whole family can get clean while playing and won't need showers or baths tonight. Result.
Actually, the pool might reduce their shower usage anyway, without a stealth bubbles mission.

hotfroth · 12/08/2022 13:42

You'd have to be an utter dickhead to keep emptying and refilling a pool that size.

There are such things as chemicals, pumps and filters that will keep the water clean for ages.

Letsnotargue · 12/08/2022 13:56

Water companies inherited the water distribution network, often is was already decades old. Yes there are lots of leaks, but they are legally restricted on how much they can spend on fixing them, and while some leaks spring up on a road some are ‘somewhere’ along a very long pipe under houses, buildings, roads etc so it’s not as simple as a quick manhole lift and off you go.

Yes, they should be doing more, it so should we. The water company having leaks doesn’t give us carte blanche to waste water.
