First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

There will be more rain and wind, but I think that's the last of the really intense stuff once this line has gone through.

yes Enid I saw the touch and go! it looked like a good landing but then went up again. 🤢

very skillfull pilots. Crab wishing you a smooth flight. I think I'd be having a large glass of something to take the edge off 🍸

Froq · 09/02/2020 15:47

@Crabonastick if it helps, you should take a look at flight radar and see just how many planes are safely arriving home.

There’s a thread on here following it today and it has made me much less anxious about flying in storms. The pilots certainly know how to handle this weather.

'Gap in the proceedings' at the moment, in Glos/Wye Valley.

The sun came out briefly at 2.30pm and the wind slightly dropped, so DH and I legged it outdoors, pulled out the ladder from the garage and retrieved half a tile that had fallen off the roof and lodged itself into the guttering. We're going to have to get it replaced this week -hopefully the worst of the torrential rain and driving wind has passed, so we don't spring a leak!

About 10 mins after we came back indoors the wind has picked up a bit but not up to gale force. Saw on the Community Facebook page that there are several trees down and blocking some local lanes but it looks like some heroes in the farming community are already out there with their agricultural machines chopping and dragging the tree trunks away, bless 'em.

Ah just seen your latest update, @OhYouBadBadKitten, looks like your forecast is as accurate as ever, thanks!

Shimy · 09/02/2020 15:53

Thanks @Piggy.

daisychain01 · 09/02/2020 15:54

We were dreading power cuts but we appear to have escaped that 'joy' this time round. We get at least 2-3 per winter, but not for very long, it's just a pain when you think "oh well, I'll go and put the kettle on" um no, wait ....

Random18 · 09/02/2020 15:56

Definitely calmed down here. We had a bit.of a power cut earlier but they sorted the problem within a couple of hours.

Elderflower14 · 09/02/2020 15:59

Wind has calmed down... My eggs for sale sign has cracked and split in several places 😔 😔 😔. Have done a deal with my friends son. A repair in exchange for some of my chocolate Brownies...

fizzymango · 09/02/2020 16:00

I’m in east Anglia and the squall line keeps hovering around where I live - hurry up and move! Sad my fence is looking very precarious.....

woodencoffeetable · 09/02/2020 16:00

it's just started raining carwash style

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 16:01

Main squall line has arrived in south London ...

RandomMess · 09/02/2020 16:03

Well people I tried to escape London back north and failed miserably 😢

Crabonastick · 09/02/2020 16:03

Just got to the airport- flight cancelled. Problem solved 😭

cheninblanc · 09/02/2020 16:05

Our power is back on, the kettle is on, phones charging but we've got the worst yet to come we're told!

Supersimkin2 · 09/02/2020 16:09

No one in South London will need their outside windows cleaning ever again.

Thanks, Ciara.

ClaraLane · 09/02/2020 16:17

Think we’ve just had the squall line go over Norwich, horrendous wind and horizontal rain for nearly half an hour but it seems to have stopped now.

MarshaBradyo · 09/02/2020 16:18

Glad I got home a few hours ago as some stuff in my hands nearly flew away. Worse now with the rain. SE London.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/02/2020 16:20

I'm about 30 miles fom norwich on the coast and the wind and rain have just picked up again after a fairly long quiet period

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 16:24

We had the final squall go through. It had definitely lost a lot of force. A fair bit of rain though. far SE still has it to go though.
There's a blob of general wind and rain moving along the south coast from the west.

I'm in Kent, interested to know if we've had the worst yet?

Oddgirlout · 09/02/2020 16:25

Cross post @OhYouBadBadKitten!

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 16:26

@Oddgirlout - the squall line we’ve got here in south London at the mo is coming straight atcha!

Gammeldragz · 09/02/2020 16:31

I'm on the edge of East Sussex and Kent, looks like we've got hours of this to go. Power still off, it came on long enough for me to get the WiFi signed back in and then went off again. DCs are doing a 1000 piece jigsaw by the failing light from the French windows and I'm planning to do pasta and pesto on the camping stove in a bit.

furrytoebean · 09/02/2020 16:32

@Crabonastick I flew today (don't want to say where as it's outing) and it was fine.

It was a bumpy landing but that was only for the last ten minutes of the flight and it was bearable.

I'm an anxious flyer and was petrified, but honestly it was all good.

The cabin crew where great and it was all business as usual for them.
