Heavy rain could cause some disruption and flooding.

It's not supposed to rain again, and it's tipping it down. Not happy. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/11/2019 07:39

I'm hopeful that today will be dry today or perhaps just a bit of rain this evening. Tomorrow day time looks dry.

Fairly cold but dry here in the dearne valley, most roads now open, the odd one is still flooded locally.

However Catcliffe and Treeton the other side of Rotherham are still pretty bad, a friend sent me a video this morning, she's a carer and trying to get to clients and it's pretty horrendous driving conditions. Luckily she is in a big, old 4 x 4 so managing to get through. But I really feel for the people there, they were horribly affected by the 2007 floods so it must be a nightmare to have it happen again.

More warnings out. I'm so sorry. Today and Thursday look problematic. 50-60mm may fall today in the Pennines.

Some snow is possible too over High Peak.

I'm beginning to feel a little victimised by the weather. The yellow warnings seem to include the Sheffield area in every picture. I think I'll buy a boat.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2019 10:08

It does have it in for you this autumn.

Ginfordinner · 11/11/2019 10:47

Funnily enough there has been a dearth of "I love autumn" posts on MN this year Wink

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 11/11/2019 19:54

Bloody awful day just to the side of the high peak today. Hail and heavy rain for large parts of the day. The river is high but I don't feel we can complain at all with what's happening over t'hllls. I've been saying to mum today how we've not had any crisp autumn days, just lots of wet, grey, windy ones. I love autumn normally but this is like a wet winter.

That's the Goyt at Marple Bridge today. I wonder how the dam is doing at Whaley Bridge. Does anyone know anything as I've not heard anything since it was crisis point and Boris promising a new dam 🙄

Ginfordinner · 11/11/2019 20:01

That sounds worrying

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 12/11/2019 07:51

It's hammering it down here again. This is the worst autumn of my memory. Thinking of all those affected by the floods Thanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2019 08:35

I presume everyone knows the flood warning map.

There's also data here from last month about water levels and rainfall. It's issued monthly

There is up to date info on river levels here:

Clearly the historic records on the river levels page need to be reviewed.

Thursday into Friday looks bad again Im afraid.

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 12/11/2019 20:41

@OhYouBadBadKitten that river levels link is awesome thank you! The dc will love looking at that with me tomorrow. I e only had a brief look but I'm amazed that ladybower is at low levels considering the rain of the summer and autumn.

ChalkieWhite · 12/11/2019 20:58

Looking thru thread. Not a SINGLE mention of climate change. Even, ffs 'thank god I've got a 4x4, to cope with this'. It's the 4x4s, and our whole lifestyles that have caused this. Women on TV, standing in front of flooded mansion (and multiple vehicles), saying 'the Government need to do more'. No love, it's you (all of us) that ought to do more - anything would be a start.

Ginfordinner · 12/11/2019 21:03

Guilty as charged. If we had better public transportand better road gritting and snow clearance I would ditch the 4WD.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2019 21:40

It's bloody obvious that climate change is having a massive impact. But this is a forecasting thread, not a climatology thread.

Raining hard here. The roads are already getting a covering of water because the drains aren't coping.
Poor old Donny Sad

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 14/11/2019 12:03

It's awful here again-really cold, windy and wet. I've seen the weather warnings for the Sheffield area. Horrendous. Keep safe everyone and let's hope this is the last of it now.

Frouby · 14/11/2019 12:09

Very glad we have a 4 x 4 chalkie. It's necessary for us.

Raining again here, and very cold as well. More like January than November. Hoping roads remain open today.

Ginfordinner · 14/11/2019 18:03

The weather has been truly awful in Sheffield all day. Four degrees and pouring rain, which has now turned into sleet. It was almost dark by 3.30. My drive home on the M1 was challenging with all the spray.

TheQueef · 14/11/2019 19:36

Glad you are home safe Gin it's nasty here too.
Wet sleet and a cold wind.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/11/2019 21:32

That sounds really horrid!

This flood map looks horrific Shock

It looks bad in the West Midlands and a vast swathe of England. If you scroll out. Englad looks like a blob of red.
