Heavy rain could cause some disruption and flooding.

My statement this morning was clearly a massive understatement :( I'm sorry I've not been around today.

I think everyone underestimated it, kitten. I knew it would be bad this morning, but even I am shocked at how bad it has got how quickly.

The problem with Sheffield and Rotherham is that they have so many little main roads in and out of major places that it doesn't take much for it all to go horribly wrong.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2019 21:44

FFS BBC, it's about fifth on their tv news.

It's the first thing you see on their website

Rained all bloody day in Saddleworth.

My pond has taken over the lawn.

I hope my newt doesn’t get washed away.

My Spaniel has a ghastly damp odour.

Hecateh · 07/11/2019 22:16

Luckily I don't need to go out but I am in the South West corner of Barnsley. Even if I needed to I can't get into Rotherham, Barnsley or Sheffield. No help for anyone near me that needs a hospital tonight.

AND IT I STILL RAINING

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2019 22:24

it is Gin, so why doesn't the tv reflect that?

reaching record levels on the Derwent.

Near Huddersfield too. Tried to get to my mum's in South Yorkshire this morning - very scary on the roads and turned back in the end. Never seen anything like it!

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 23:12

No trains between Huddersfield and Barnsley as there is flooding at Denby Dale.

Wow. That map looks worse than it did a couple of hours ago Shock

DH was supposed to work in Sheffield today, but decided that tomorrow would be better. I am so thankful he didn't go as he wouldn't have been able to get home.

Aragog · 08/11/2019 07:23

OYBBK - not London though, so it'll never rate high in bbc tv news. It'd have been 24 hour running news if it had been down south!

GwenCooper81 · 08/11/2019 07:33

I'm in South Yorks. Thankfully its stopped raining! Dd has friends who were stuck at Meadowhall. Absolute madness that they left the announcement so so late. Its terrible where we are. Schools were shut early and buses diverted.
So annoying to see Meadowhall referred to as 'In the North' in the media yesterday.
Stay safe everyone.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/11/2019 07:34

Aragog I agree it was very negligent of Meadowhall to leave it so late to cancel. My teenage grandson almost went and would have been trapped there like a lot of people. They should have been able to predict the way things were going much earlier. Even if meadowhall itself wasn't flooded the routes for people to get home and for parents to get in were becoming blocked.

GwenCooper81 · 08/11/2019 07:43

@CaptainMyCaptain it could have been called hours earlier. The Don was high through town and the Don Valley area from lunch time even. Reports were coming in and pictures on social media. Very selfish of them. Profits first by all accounts.
So glad your grandson wasnt there.
I wonder what today will bring?

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 08/11/2019 09:08

The Goyt at Marple Bridge is the highest I've seen it this morning.
Stay safe everyone.

marvelousways · 08/11/2019 09:10

what a night! Spent most the night trying to direct water down drains to stop it reaching the house. All 3 roads in and out of our village were totally impassable, although I think one my now be passable with care. It has stopped raining but skies are just starting to darken again. I was meant to be taking DD to the chirstmas event at Meadowhall but told her no way! A couple of her freinds still went and ended up stranded there for 6 hours. Totally shocking that Meadowhall didnt cancell earlier when the environment agency was warning that the river don was going to breach all day.

Woah Marvelous.

115mm measured at Swinesure and 85mm in Sheffield. Those are exceptional levels of rainfall.

Yep. Driving home from work yesterday was a bit of an adventure. I'm thankful that I have a 4WD as some of the lakes puddles I drove through were pretty deep.
In our case it is because the fields slope down to the road so the run off was very bad.

Ginfordinner · 08/11/2019 12:46

It has just started pouring with rain again Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/11/2019 12:47

That's the last thing that is needed.

Rother Valley here.
It's tipping down again.
We've still got an inch of standing water on the back yard Sad I hate it when it comes in.
