Heavy rain could cause some disruption and flooding.

we have really bad flooding here in Rotherham. I work for nhs and we have implemented our emergency cirsis plan. Kids school has cloased and they have all been sent home. Some roads are totally impassable. Nightmare.

Meckity1 · 07/11/2019 15:50

South Leeds to Heckmondwike had its moments. Part of the A58 near Drighlington looked like it was going to flood! I honestly thought I was going to get stranded in the water.

Scary scary scary

Frouby · 07/11/2019 16:19

Also in Rotherham, dearne valley area. Some local roads completely impassable, surrounding areas impassable, ds sent home from school early, businesses closing early, and am expecting complete carnage later. Apparently Meadowhall shopping centre still doing its big lights switch on even though River Don likely to burst.

Dh on his way home from Coventry, usually hits Rotherham about 5, gets home for 5.45pm. If he gets home by 7pm he will have done well.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 16:32

I can't believe they are so stupid @Frouby. There are no tram trains, many buses have been rerouted and the Penistone line trains have been suspended due to flooding.

I work in Sheffield and drove through several "lakes" to get to work this morning, and the road through our village is flooded at each end of the village and is being monitored.

Just looked on Twitter and Blackburn Brook has burst its banks. What on earth are they thinking?

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 07/11/2019 16:34

It's horrendous up here and we are only on the edge of the amber warming rather than actual in it.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 16:38

The Christmas lights switch on has just been cancelled.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 16:52

No it hasn't!

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 07/11/2019 17:11

are you practising for the panto? Grin

drivingtofrance · 07/11/2019 17:12

Near to Huddersfield here.

It's rained ALL day. Some areas have been blocked off due to flooding. Seems that my roof leaks too. Sad

This summer/autumn seems to have been wetter than ever.

Thehagonthehill · 07/11/2019 17:16

We had our floods beginning of half term so though fields are still lake like and the soil is saturated. Sorry the North is now going through it.Not going to be a great Christmas for some.

Hoppinggreen · 07/11/2019 17:24

I’m in Huddersfield too drivingtofrance, lots of stuff cancelled and loads of water on the roads
It literally hasn’t stopped all day. A school in The Calder valley was closed early as the whole area was flooded and roads closed

TheQueef · 07/11/2019 17:26

The Don will go soon.
My Ddad said it's chaos at Sheffield station.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 17:32

The river has just burst its banks at Meadowhall.
And the switch on has been cancelled.

We were sent home early today thank goodness.

TheQueef · 07/11/2019 17:36

In Sheffield and there is a lot of flooding and reports that the Don may have burst its bank now.

Meadowhall waited until nearly 5pm to cancel their live event - due to start at 5:30pm. People were contacting them not long before and being told it was still going ahead! So now lots of teens stranded with road chaos and the interchange now closed too. Its okay for some people to say well they ought to use common sense and not go, but a lot of young people/teens will just have been thinking they'd paid for tickets, Meadowhall have said its safe tog go ahead so why not. Meadowhall should have cancelled ages ago, as soon as the environment agency was saying there was serious flood risks. I got the impression they had their hands forced perhaps?!

Traffic was really heavy leaving work near Ecclesall Road area, around 4pm.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 17:49

Meadowhall have really shot themselves in the foot by not cancelling the event earlier. One of my workmates is stranded in Meadowhall as there are no trains.
Sheffield Parkway towards the M1 was busy at 3pm because a lot of people left work early today.

Aragog · 07/11/2019 17:51

Its not even just the visitors either. Its the staff who were having to go there to work and stay late, who have been held in as well and now will struggle to get home.

Frouby · 07/11/2019 17:53

It's disgusting how Meadowhall have acted, even if it had stopped raining they would still have potentially flooded with the river flow itself. My dd (15) wanted to do but I told this morning she wasn't going. Went to doncaster and was lucky to get hkme through connisbro and mexbro at 11am, never mind this afternoon.

Dh still not home, am not sure how he wi get into our village, I think most routes are now flooded. He might manage to get through the long way, he's in the pick up luckily so 4 wheel drive and higher up.

Hoppinggreen · 07/11/2019 17:55

There are lots of panicked parents on FB who’s teens have got to Meadowhall straight from school and are stuck there now
I bet said teens are having a ball, DD is very jealous ( but I’m glad she’s not there)

Frouby · 07/11/2019 18:13

I'd be terrified if dd was there Hopping. 100s and 100s and 100s of teens, bored and pissed off and no way home unless parents collect. It's rough at the lights switch on at the best of times, I was very reluctant to let dd go in the first place.

Hoppinggreen · 07/11/2019 18:38

Thank God your DD didn’t go Frouby I think Dd thinks it would be like a giant sleepover with free reign of all the shops. I’m thinking more Lord of The Flies!!
If she was there I would have to send her Dad in a boat or something.

Ginfordinner · 07/11/2019 19:27

The police are now telling everyone not to leave Meadowhall, and for people not to go and collect anyone.

What a car crash this is.

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 07/11/2019 19:29

Thinking of all that are affected and hoping every gets home safe Thanks I used to live in Sheffield as a student and love the city.

TheQueef · 07/11/2019 20:06

It would be cruel and unusual punishment to spend the night at Meadowhall surely?
I haven't been since Sainsbury's shut but I still twitch when I recall it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2019 21:35

75mm of rain in Sheffield so far with more to come I'm afraid.
