Our back garden finally got the snow (about an hour after the front!). Looked rather pretty early this morning with the street lamp behind the tree.

Gutted DC this morning here in Surrey, the garden was covered in snow at 1.30am (when one of them had set their alarm for which woke us all up!!) but by 6am it was melting and then we had the text of doom to say that school was open. It's nearly all melted now, so disappointed. And the school made them all go straight inside rather than having a snowball fight as they'd planned.

I have just laughed at my work colleague who has come through the door and asked me to find out from the Kitten person whether we will get any more snow in N. Surrey today! Thank you OYBBK and Gloria for all of your updates, they are very much appreciated.

Anyone know what A40 Cheltenham to Oxford is like for a journey? DD isn't very well, school have got her in isolation and she wants to come home?

TokyoSushi · 01/02/2019 09:48

We're in the 'not this time' area - boo, but I just wanted to say that the maps are a fantastic addition @OhYouBadBadKitten

Frouby · 01/02/2019 10:00

Erm, we have a blizzard outside. We weren't forecast a blizzard. 50% chance of sleet at 11am it said.

Big, fat, swirly snowflakes coming down.

fussychica · 01/02/2019 10:06

Afingeroffudge live very close to Longleat. Snow 4inches deep here and still snowing. Due to stop around lunchtime I believe. I have no idea what the main roads are like. The schools are mainly closed. Think you should give them a call before you set off. Take care.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 10:24

I might have to keep the maps as a regular feature then Grin

Frouby you'll be in the snow streamer area then!

I got out for a lovely walk - found an area that was all my own, managed to just avoid a hidden stream!

I'm so fed up! No snow here in Birmingham. I'm seeing some beautiful pics across UK! Even my sister who never gets snow has it! Will we ever get it?

LadyFlumpalot · 01/02/2019 10:26

Even though it's snowing really hard here it's not settling and the snowfall from last night is melting quickly :(

brizzledrizzle · 01/02/2019 10:27

Snow here.

OBBYK, never mind fortune cookies, advice maps are the way to go!

you could have a scale of how safe it is to get hammered Grin

nannynick · 01/02/2019 10:32

Snow but not a snow day off from school. Walked to school (1.6 miles) but looks like snow may melt by collection time.

Perhaps some of us could support the campaign to get the weather board more prominent on mn so that people can find us?

oooo!!! It looks like the snow showers are going to pep up in central southern England this afternoon, they could get quite heavy. Woo hoo! (sorry for those who dont want it.) I think warnings may be extended.

For those where it is going all melty - take care tonight as it refreezes in some parts.

Woke up to snow this morning, as far as I know it was not forecast in West Yorkshire?

Not bad enough to bad enough to go to work, half way there to get a phone call. MIL was meant to have DD this morning but her boiler packed in, no heating or hot water.

So have ended up with an unintentional snow day!

oldsilver · 01/02/2019 11:22

Just been out and knocked about 2ft of snow that had pitched on the chickenwire of the tortoise summer residence. It's varying between 1-2ft of snow with some deeper pockets.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 11:23

wow! That's very impressive!

Linda, the snow does seem to have penetrated far inland in parts.

OYBBK the weather warnings on met office are difficult to follow now as so many covering such broad possibilities and areas. What areas do you think will be affected by snow today - will it come down past London? Also is it really cold enough to settle do you think? Everything here in Surrey turned slushy v quickly

lovestea · 01/02/2019 11:36

Lots of snow here in Oxford and it is still coming down!

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 11:37

Proper snow here in Greater Manchester

tiredvommachine · 01/02/2019 11:56
Sad
fussychica · 01/02/2019 12:04

Still getting worse in West Wilts. Most schools shut here. Not surprised it's pretty deep, though according to the council most major road have been gritted and are passable. However, all bin collections and various other services suspended.
Relatives in West Hampshire have a couple of of inches but not as bad as here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 12:11

xsahm - I'm not surprised they are confusing, its getting very complicated! I've now got heavy snow forecast for my area.
I'm going to have a look and see if I can work out why it is pepping up so much.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 12:18

Basically the snow streamers are penetrating right across the country - hence Manchester and other areas getting unforecast stuff.

Just rain here Angry. Shouldn't get too cross as we got proper snow last year and it's a rare event. Plus still plenty of winter left (crosses fingers)
