Warm weather coming our way

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 18/06/2018 09:35

Blimey, what 'appened 'ere then? 'Tis almost a punch up in the weather department of MN, of all places!

William ~ you're sort of right, that it's looking OK for the country this week with temperatures ranging from 17-20C in England and 10-15 for Scotland. The SE could see low 20s tomorrow/midweek before it cools off slightly, heading towards the weekend.

(Next week (although this is going waaaay-ahead in terms of forecasting), it does look rather warm, low/mid 20s from sort of N.Wales downwards. Mid-high teens for the rest of the country.)

thelasttudor · 18/06/2018 09:39

It will be pleasant then not a heatwave...

This time last year it was a heatwave, it was 33 degrees on this very day and 35 degrees on Midsummer Day - that I would refer to as a heatwave - for the UK anyhow. In Egypt it would be normal!

MissConductUS · 18/06/2018 13:25

It'll be 33-34 degrees here today, possibly breaking a record.

LapdanceShoeshine · 18/06/2018 13:45

Oh yes - today last year I got the fans out! Won’t have been 33 up here, high 20s I think.

This year they’ve been out for a month already! (But not needed currently...)

Heatwave next week
GloriaSmud · 19/06/2018 09:07

Lapdance ~ you might need those fans again next week!

Don't take this as a certainty as it's way into the forecasting future ~ GFS are giving these as minimum temperatures for next Thursday....
Shock

Ha
Proves all you wrong that photo

OP posts:
AgentCooper · 19/06/2018 10:17

It's fucking 10 degrees here (Glasgow) right now. My feet are like ice. Bring on the heatwave!

LapdanceShoeshine · 19/06/2018 10:20

Thanks for that, Gloria - very encouraging - wow!

WilliamLilliam · 19/06/2018 10:40

That is ridiculous it's 10c not bloody -10c

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 19/06/2018 10:51

William ~ And to add to your good mood, TheWeatherOutlook think we could be in for quite a warm spell. (Scroll down for 'Blowtorch heat next week.')

Ifailed · 19/06/2018 10:55

I don't know where you all are, but down here in Kent the highest temp forecast for next week is 25, hardly a heatwave.

Delatron · 19/06/2018 11:22

Not as nice as originally forecast this week. I'm sure at one point they said it would be 27 degrees in the SE tomorrow, now looks
cloudy and only 23.
Next week looks fab though, hope it comes off!

GetInMyNelly · 19/06/2018 11:27

My area will be highs of 28 degrees.

I'd consider that a bloody heatwave Sad

Delatron · 19/06/2018 11:30

I think 28 plus for at least 3 days and then we can call it a heatwave.

GloriaSmud · 19/06/2018 11:56

The Metoffice's definition of a Heatwave.

And their Heat Health Watch page (which might be needed next week!)

thelasttudor · 19/06/2018 12:23

Gotta be in the 30's to be a heatwave imo and go on for a few days not just one day and then a massive thunderstorm!

Just seen the forecast on BBC and max tom is 25 then gets fresher, hardly a heatwave OP so don't panic.

Delatron · 19/06/2018 13:10

Yes this week hasn't amounted to much and will be much fresher for Thurs.

There seems to be more confidence around the heat for next week, already saying 28 in the SE so that could rise still. Maybe a mini heatwave!

halfwitpicker · 19/06/2018 13:11

Where's bad bad kitten? I thought she ran the weather threads?

is she under the weather

LoniceraJaponica · 19/06/2018 18:02

She is stressing on the year 13 thread

PilarTernera · 19/06/2018 19:17

Liam Dutton has done a little video about next week's heatwave . It shows what might happen with the jetstream.

Mogleflop · 19/06/2018 21:04

Next week's due to be a heatwave of consistent high 20s where I am. Dreading it myself! Bring on autumn...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2018 09:11

Why are people being mean to the op?

Yes, I've been stressing on the Year 13 threads Grin Even for me, sometimes weather isn't the biggest thing on my mind.

It is quite possible that by mid week next week some parts could be hitting 30C+ Areas less likely to see the really hot temperatures are western coasts, parts of Wales and Scotland.

The definition of a heatwave is taken as "when the daily maximum temperature of more than five consecutive days exceeds the average maximum temperature by 5 °C, the normal period being 1961-1990".

It seems quite probable to me that we will meet that definition next week.

Incidentally we had a similar period last year, which started on 17th June.

thelasttudor · 20/06/2018 09:47

We did, midsummer day last year was 35 degrees. I could barely move despite being a heat lover!

GloriaSmud · 20/06/2018 10:31

Netweather and TheWeatherOutlook's thoughts for next week.

Can see if the heatwave happens, there'll be lots of visits to the allotment for watering. Could really do with some rain as all my water butts are almost empty now.

Oogle · 20/06/2018 10:38

Woohooooooo! I love a heatwave. Grin South coast here so hopefully high 20s. YAY! I want some warm evenings, desperate to sit out in the garden later than 7pm. (We do need some rain though - fearful of a hosepipe ban and my water butts are nearly empty)

Now, OYBBK, can you PLEASE tell me the weather on 21st July will be 28 degrees and glorious sunshine? I have a garden party planned that day and I fear it'll rain. (I'm joking, I know you can't tell me this a month in advance!)
