Another heatwave due?

Does anyone know whether we're getting another heatwave after this rain? A friend has said that we're having mega hot weather until September after this spell of wet weather.

I hear you mint. It is truly fucking shite up here

gttia · 10/07/2017 21:48

Thanks kitten, warm is nice just not heat wave warm. The dm reported a killer heat wave end of July Confused I know they speculate but I thought I'd check with kitten Smile

Delatron · 11/07/2017 12:24

Rain here today finally.
Some forecasts saying back to quite warm
again next week? Probably too
early to be sure. I'm looking at the SE. 25/26? So not killer heatwave but warm again and there's been a real trend for forecasters undercooking the temperatures so I dress all wrong and it ends up being scorching.

Slimthistime · 11/07/2017 14:20

Accuweather saying 27 for Monday, so that will make the office at least 32
BBC saying 20
Alas BBC have been wrong all summer
I suppose looking forward to autumn is a new experience at least

Trying to see a positive to this....! Spoken with a couple of neighbors since last post, we are all losing our minds, but people who've lived here even longer than I have are confirming it's never been this bad in here before.

Delatron · 11/07/2017 16:25

I'm about to give up even checking the BBC. They are so far out it's ridiculous. I went to Majorca recently and they insisted it would be cloudy for 2 days, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. They didn't even update it.
They tend to get the temps wrong by at least 4/5 degrees which is hugely significant. I don't know why they bother!

Slimthistime · 11/07/2017 16:49

Delatron, I've found Accuweather wildly wrong too but that was about a year ago, started checking again in recent heatwave and they've been more accurate.

Then in winter Wunderground was totally wrong....xcweather seems to hedge bets...but at the moment I like to know whether I need to get the stepladder out and cover all the glass, it doesn't matter so much at other times because I can just chuck an extra layer in my bag. But if I cover the windows before leaving for work it helps by about two degrees which matters in the sweatbox I live in!

Delatron · 11/07/2017 18:09

Slimthistime, yes accuweather are ok, they do like to constantly forecast 'a possible t-storm' though that never happens! I cross reference about 4 weather sites and still haven't a clue half the time. I just know to add on about 4 degrees to the BBC one!

Slimthistime · 12/07/2017 10:33

accuweather are definitely going for hot next week - but to be fair at the moment anything over 22 makes me groan. Yesterday and today have been a relief, though today is going to get "nicer"!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/07/2017 10:45

It does look as though very hot weather is possible mid week next week. I'm not so sure about the early part of the week, I think low to mid 20's on Monday, but potentially reaching 30C by Wednesday.

In the south and midlands. Sorry elsewhere.

Slimthistime · 12/07/2017 11:09

Kitten, you mean reaching 30 by Weds 19th?

buggeration. Another week where I can't rearrange work at home days.

dementedma · 12/07/2017 13:15

d'argh! send it to Scotland. We will welcome it with our woolly sleeved arms.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/07/2017 15:19

gfs is backing down a bit from the 31c it forecast to around 26/27C. Will have to see how it settles down.

gttia · 12/07/2017 15:51

What we can't argue is that the south east at least is having a good summer.
I wish I could blow it up to Scotland for you lovely people though.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 12/07/2017 15:57

Dd is getting married on the 5th Aug so I'm watching this thread very carefully!

We are in the South, so I hope it is a lovely warm day, but not scorching.

ClashCityRocker · 12/07/2017 16:00

Today has been a lot better than forecast here.

I'm off Thursday Friday next week for a jolly to the coast so hoping it's reasonable.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/07/2017 16:49

Have to say, looking at temps across Europe, they are much warmer than I remember them being at this point over the past few years. Not sure how accurate my perception is.

lieka · 12/07/2017 17:17

Sad everyone's saying it's going to be a super hot summer in a few weeks.

I feel like it's always vaguely warmer these days, I remember really cold winters and wet springs when I was younger, and we don't seem to get those anymore much - but maybe that's memory for you.

Slimthistime · 12/07/2017 17:39

lieka, if you have any company recs for air con that can vent out of a really narrow window opening, I'd love to hear them!

"everyone's saying it's going to be a super hot summer in a few weeks" - September is a super busy time at work, can't take time off, so really hope not. That said, sunset will be earlier, so at least the flat will spend a little less time getting roasted.

re vaguely warmer - I don't know. Last May we had frost, I remember because I had to put a bunch of my mother's summer planting into frost bags/plastic cover things.

It's very unusual for me to go to work without a light coat. I haven't used a coat for weeks now. It's kind of weird because I normally keep as much as I can in coat pockets rather than a handbag.

isn't there a pattern that freezing winters often follow very hot summers? (may be totally misremembering something there).

Delatron · 13/07/2017 23:08

Looks like the forecasts are saying not so hot next week now? 24/25 in the South East.

gttia · 14/07/2017 08:18

That's a perfect temperature.

It's cold and wet here this morning, a nice change but I'm dressed in summer clothes and can't be bothered changing

Slimthistime · 14/07/2017 10:43

Accuweather continues to say 26 and 27 for my postcode....clearly bbc has it classified as another planet.

I don't mind 27 outside if not for the flat and office.

Ach well, it's mid July, fingers crossed for no more crazy heatwaves at least.

Delatron · 14/07/2017 12:36

Oh yes, back up to 27 on Tuesday. Looks short lived..

ladybird69 · 15/07/2017 01:14

KITTEN have you got any idea of the 12th Aug in Gloucestershire? Will it be hot or torrential rainstorm? Tia Smile

OP posts:
Slimthistime · 15/07/2017 11:16

Delatron, Accuweather still saying that but....today is matching up to BBC expectations so I'm hoping that Accuweather is wrong this time.

it's raining and quite fresh outside whereas Accuweather said a higher temp and humidity. Accuweather still convinced that we will be up to 27 by Tuesday here though.....I'm not sure how often these models get updated.

Delatron · 15/07/2017 16:33

Yes lots of rain in London (not forecasted) and cooler than forecast... Who knows what next week will bring!
