Heatwave in London

Wonder if any knowledgeable folk are about
Is the heatwave in London really not breaking till the weekend?
Before anyone tells me off, the office is boiling, Tube is boiling, flat is boiling. I think there's been 17 days this year already where the flat has been 28 at night. It feels a bit much. I was just really hoping thy might be wrong about it being all week. This big block of flats kind of accumulates heat as well.

Last year we had a frost in May, it does feel unusual this year and the effect on my asthma is not helping.

32C. Think we will top out at around 33.

GloriaSmud · 19/06/2017 14:42

DD has another two exams on Wednesday morning. Hopefully it'll be cooling off a little by then!

We have bubbly, thundery-type clouds forming here and it keeps going all overcast. I've no idea what the temperature is (apart from hot!) as the heat seems to have got to my weather station and it isn't reading anything! Think I might have to get a new one.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/06/2017 14:47

Overcast here too- yipeeee!!

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/06/2017 14:54

Scorchio where I am but at least there's some breeze today so it makes it more bearable (although breeze obviously won't help if you have to get the tube!)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/06/2017 14:55

You have breeze?Envy

VerityHabitat · 19/06/2017 14:56

I have a hairdryer fan blowing in my face.

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/06/2017 15:00

You have breeze?

Yes!! Not tons of it but enough to make a difference. Unless the trees outside are just moving due to the sheer volume of fans everyone has going. Wink

People have breeze?!

I took a cab home from work

Cabbie was Muslim. He was telling me how sad he was about today, then he asked if he could put the radio on, and we drove through the streets of North London with the windows down having an 80s singalong (which he started to make him feel better, apparently none of his previous clients today were the singalong type)!!

So it's a weird story to tell on a weather thread but you know, I took a cab, I felt less awful and I managed to help the cabbie feel better. So that was more than worth it! Arranged to go in late and leave late tomorrow so at least not in rush hour. No one got sent home early, they've done that in the past but because this heatwave is all week, they've gone for staggering hours across the team with early and late.

Aww I love your 80s singalong cabbie! What a nice moment for a sad day.

I've got tickets to see Eliza And The Bear in Camden on Thursday. I love them and am really excited but it's going to be very very hot in a small venue. Plus not looking forward to paying bar prices for water.

Looks like the weather will break down on Wednesday. I'm a bit sad actually, was just adjusting to it a little.

Rainatnight · 20/06/2017 10:44

I love your cabbie story! Good on you for singing along.

Delatron · 20/06/2017 12:29

Love the cabbie singalong!
Last night was horrible in the SE, my bedroom didn't cool down at all, woke up at 4.30, windows and shutters were open but there was just no air. I do seem to be adjusting to the day time temperatures, it's the night and sleeping that's the problem.
Looks like the forecast says it will break down over night on Wednesday in SE? Is that right OYBBK? Sports day on Thursday so I guess it's a good thing. 20 degrees will feel cold though! I'd be happy with a nice 24/25 degrees!

Slimthistime · 20/06/2017 12:50

Kitten, Wednesday forecast to be hotter in London?

RE cabbie singalong, you will be glad to hear we both drew the line at Kate Bush "Wuthering Heights" Grin

his singing was definitely better than mine!

Slim ~ another one loving the 'cabbie singalong!'

We had a sudden rain shower about 3am this morning. It wasn't forecast and wasn't that bad for us but where DD3 goes to school, 5 miles away, I heard some Mums talking about it this morning and words of, "never heard/seen anything like it" and "it was a lot cooler afterwards," so think it was a bit of a downpour. And it is cooler today, more of a comfortable 20C at the moment rather than the 31C that we hit yesterday.

Tomorrow looks hot again and there are weather warnings for thunderstorms/rain.

HappyAxolotl · 20/06/2017 15:19

It felt a little cooler this morning when I left the house as there was a bit of a breeze blowing, but as I got onto the high street which is a bit of a suntrap the temp rose quite a bit.

My sun-worshipping housemate is out in the garden with her inflatable pool. I'l wait until about 5 then go and sprawl out with my feet in the pool. It's a bit too hot for me right now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2017 15:43

I think so Slim and I'm working in London tomorrow Going to try and avoid the tube.

Slimthistime · 20/06/2017 16:34

forecast still varying between sites.

hope you avoid the Tube OBBYK. If you see someone wearing pale linen with blue headphones seat-dancing, it's probably me. I don't know why I have to seat-dance as a commuter, I'm probably on a bunch of TFL cameras.

I was hoping for a thunderstorm, it seems a bit odd that we will just wake up and it will be 10 degrees cooler - does that normally happen? Perhaps I'm just not remembering my weather very well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2017 22:11

Well, a couple of cold fronts will go through wednesday night or thursday morning. I think that there could be some thunderstorms for some along the front . Perhaps cloud and increased wind as it goes through.

I'd like a thunderstorm!

sparechange · 20/06/2017 22:16

Such a lovely breeze tonight!
Thermostat still says 26.5 but it feels completely bearable tonight

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2017 22:23

I'm not sure how much I believe this, but bbc weather seem to think that tomorrow could be the warmest June day since 1976.

I have a choice tomorrow, walk 5 miles or take the tube Confused

OneGreyElephantBalancing · 20/06/2017 22:31

Eek. I'd say tube. Though maybe it has to depend which tube line?

I was in London today on tube and it was ok. Stations we're stuffy but it was ok.
It wasn't central though which I know is bad.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2017 22:36

Bakerloo. Hope it doesn't live up to its name! I've a water bottle in the freezer ready!
