Heatwave in London

Wonder if any knowledgeable folk are about
Is the heatwave in London really not breaking till the weekend?
Before anyone tells me off, the office is boiling, Tube is boiling, flat is boiling. I think there's been 17 days this year already where the flat has been 28 at night. It feels a bit much. I was just really hoping thy might be wrong about it being all week. This big block of flats kind of accumulates heat as well.

Last year we had a frost in May, it does feel unusual this year and the effect on my asthma is not helping.

Any chance of having some iced water, slim? It's what's kept me going over the last few days.

fmeitshot · 21/06/2017 18:44

Flowers Not long now. I'm hugging some ice packs in front of a fan and waiting for the dizziness to pass myself. It's rubbish isn't it?

GloriaSmud · 21/06/2017 18:47

Some lightning strikes are showing up here.
Cooler weather is on the way.

Thank you very much BadKitten and Empress I have been freaking out all over MN about travelling tomorrow - thread after thread! Maccy Ds will do us for milkshake and a bit of a chill out. And we'll try the Wellcome Collection if we have time.

As there are so many clever people about...the room thermostat now refuses to show temp, it will only show time. Manual and online queries say nothing but I think maybe it's designed to not show anything over 35? Like how some air con in the U.K. Won't work above a certain temp?

I think I've drunk too much water rather than too little. Now hiding in the bathroom, as it has no window or outside wall so presume a degree cooler?

elQuinto there's a massive fountain for kids to play in at Granary Square just behind kings cross, 1080 jets, it's fab! Have a look on Google (if it's not chucking it down tomorrow Grin).

elQuintoConyo · 21/06/2017 19:51

Great thanks tshirt.

Slim have you tried splashing (not spritzing of flicking or spraying- but real bug splashes) cold water on: arms, legs, back of neck, cleavage? Forgive me if you have. To me that cools me down really nicely as any slight breeze - even just moving around the bathroom- sends a little breeze across the water.

Also do you have any fruit juice? Or Aquarius? Or any drink with electrolites in. Sometimes top much plain water will wash away your will to live your important minerals.

Take care everyone.

And something salty like crisps if you can manage it.

Slimthistime · 21/06/2017 20:09

Thanks all
I actually had a cold bath when I got in but I think electrolytes might be a thing. I've had some apple juice and, weirdly, put some salt on my tongue and I feel better. I don't have anything else in apart from squash, and Prosecco, but that's probably not wise!

It's an odd thing but I don't sweat much at all so I think heat just concentrates in me with no way of exiting!
I think we might be just getting a breeze......exciting. I feel like I will never complain about cold again. I normally like hot weather but this has been unusual.

I've just been swimming & I'm walking home with wet hair. Feels lovely.

Haggisfish · 21/06/2017 20:52

I sleep with a wet towel over me which cools me enough to get to sleep.

OhTheRoses · 21/06/2017 20:59

It's been 34 in Surrey today. DD has two A'Level exams tomorrow. In London. She has been amazing. Has had a wet tea towel around her head and a damp towel over her shoulders since 3pm. She has not complained once. Therefore we have been unable to either.

Slimthistime · 21/06/2017 21:32

Roses, hopefully she will be all right heat wise tomorrow.

I feel you pain, it must be hideous in cities right now. I'm not one who tolerates high temperatures well, my top tip for night time is a plant mister and a sarong or single sheet, just reach out and mist your sheet every time you wake up hot and it cools you down enough to go back to sleep without being too soggy. (Camping in France and Spain in 40 degrees, lots of experience of cooling down without a fan or aircon!).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/06/2017 22:36

Must be hell in London, it's so hot tonight, really oppressive. Just about to do the wet towel trick
