Don't get too excited. Nothing very interesting in the latest model run.

And again. Nada.

Poo. Ok, stand down the sledges for the moment, but don't give up hope!

I'm getting my snow fix through webcams at the moment - Ranier, Glacier and some of the other US National Park Webcams.

I am happy to stand sledges down for the whole winter.

Hooray for no snow!

Theres a bit of a tease in the latest model run for the 12th. Problem is, Europe is looking really still rather warm.

So you're not seeing this in the charts then, OYBBK? (warning: it's one of those 'forecast' things from the Express again!)

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2014 11:44

oh hahahaha.

nope.

It does look cooler after a mild spell at the weekend. But blizzards from the States coming in over a very mild Atlantic. Thats not in any of the models I can see.

I'm loving the use of CAPITALS in that 'forecast' from the Express.

Just so we know how important it is to ACT NOW.

Absolutely! I'm currently running round finding shovels and salt - not.

00z run to mid December looks uninspiring.

I want some snow chat too Sad
At this rate, Aldi aren't exactly going to be running out of their snow shovels/de~icer stuff that they have on display outside our local store, in a hurry!

I just wish the fog/mist would go away Sad

I was on a very scenic journey yesterday through the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire countryside and the mist just hung over the fields. Very eerie but a bugger to drive home in - especially when people drive without lights.

I grew up near the coast and fog never stayed like it does here. Is there a reason why fog can stay ALL DAY in Northamptonshire?

For those that like the cold and want something to cling on to, Netweather have released their winter forecast. Short version here and longer, more technical version here. (Interestingly, they're going for a slow start to winter. I've thought for a while that it was going to be once of those winters that would start slowly but that we'd all get some snow eventually.)

Thank you! There is hope. My little boy has never seen snow but building a snowman is item 1 on his list to Santa.

Another 'forecast' from the Daily Express (with slightly less CAPITALS this time!)

James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said weather models show volcanic activity in Iceland earlier in the year will compound the unfolding winter horror story.

He said sulphur dioxide thrown into the atmosphere will block the little sunlight expected triggering an almost nuclear winter.

I think they've completely lot it this time, haven't they? Surely blocking all the sunlight isn't on the cards.

I'm assuming this is the Express making stuff up and that Exacta weather aren't the David Icke of the weather forecasting world.

Rafa - thats ridiculous - the SO2 wasnt thrown high enough to have any affect.

Interesting wobbles in the models for next weekend bringing just the hint of potential for sleet/snow showers. The 3 main models though arent really in agreement. I'll update more tonight or tomorrow.

Can you weather gurus please keep an eye on that jetstream. I just really can't be doing with the flooding of last winter. My poor dad who has terminal cancer wants to die in my spare room, a room that was evacuated for 2 months at the beginning of this year. St Jude's storm did for my FIL last Oct so we could do with some benign weather this year.

Nemno the synoptics are very different this winter so far and for at least the next two weeks theres no hint of flooding. I will of course post if there is any change to that.
